Definitely got my eyes on Lucanis as a love interest for my male Warrior (assuming men can romance him). Yes, all companions are pansexual!

For anyone interested in Lucanis's story in the Tevinter Nights (and some insight into his character), Ghil Dirthalen has recorded the whole book on youtube. His story, the Wigmaker Job is in this video. Also the free story on EA site The Wake is also about Lucanis.

I`m quite happy he`s a companion and a romance option, he was one of my favorite characters in Tevinter Nights.

I want to romance Lucanis but I also want to play as a rogue and a crow. I don't usually like to play the same class as my love interest, but rogues are my favorite. I'm having a crisis.

Yeah same here, and with only 2 companion slots I don't know if I want another companion so similar to me in my party all the time.

From what they say, each companion will have their own unique abilities so you won't simply be repeating his as was the case in DAI. Also, technically he is an ex-Crow unless the short story the Wake was a total red herring, since in that their leaders think he is dead. So, if you were a Crow that might make for some interesting and awkward conversations. I don't think they would have gone with the factions they have if it was going to make using certain companions redundant.

I did get the impression from 'The Wake' that it's mainly Illario who thinks Lucanis dies. Which makes me think Teia and Viago know better, but perhaps Illario isn't trusted with Very Special Important Secrets. Maybe they were already cooking something there. On the other hand, I'm still an insomniac and my memory can't be trusted. Maybe I just can't remember Teia and Viago mourning for Lucanis in the story when they did. Edit. I double-checked. Teia is only mentioned, she doesn't appear even though I thought she did and Viago is mainly annoyed with drunken Illario. I'm pretty sure Lucanis dying is a ruse and we'll find out what happened in game.

Which makes me think Teia and Viago know better, but perhaps Illario isn't trusted with Very Special Important Secrets. Actually I saw it differently and thought that Illario was just play acting his grief. It did seem to be rather OTT to me considering how Crows are conditioned to suppress their emotions. So either Illario thought he had killed Lucanis or got him killed and was covering himself or he helped Lucanis fake his own death because he had made it clear he didn't want to inherit the family business, whilst Illario did. It was all a bit odd because presumably there was no body. However, I suppose you could be right. Viago was a master with poisons so he could have given Lucanis something to make him look dead and then once everyone was convinced of it, he could give the antidote to revive him. However, Illario said "it should have been me" as if he was there when Lucanis died and he was suggesting that Lucanis took a blow meant for him. That is why I feel that Illario is really the one in on the truth rather than the other two.

I had just been looking at the situation from one angle while you saw the other angles. Yes, maybe it is illario who is in kahoots with Lucanis on this. My main point was that The Wake was a Fake

What I'm getting from this is that the scene is ambiguous and the truth of what happened is obscured by potentially multiple layers of secrecy. I think that summarizes my feelings towards the Antivan Crows perfectly. I wholly expect to have been lied to at some point or another, both in previous games, books, etc. as well as in Veilguard.

Finally, a proper Crow companion. I wouldn't be so sure about that...cough...fake death. Have you read his story in Tevinter Nights too. Illario kept pointing out he wasn't behaving as Crows normally do, as they had been trained. Something definitely going on there. However, he is a Master Assassin and seems really good at his job, so not like Zevran who seemed to be accident prone and inclined to lucky breaks.

Just had a wild thought. What if it is Justice from DAA and DA2? That might account for why Lucanis was so intent on giving the slaves justice in the Wigmaker Job. Ilario didn't approve because that's not how Crows do jobs and how Lucanis was trained, yet he insisted. That would be amazing if Justice was back as his old self helping Lucanis. Justice still being around would be wild indeed. And would beg the question of what happened with Anders (for those playthroughs where he's still kicking it somewhere on the run). On an unrelated note, God, seeing Mary Kirby's name is like a stab in my heart. Cannot believe this is our final adventure with her characters.

Incidentally... finally, a proper Grey Warden companion. I won't argue with you there. He even has a griffon. I was so happy when I saw it. Do you suspect we've got a Wynne situation or a Anders situation? Or perhaps even worse... a Cole situation! No, not a Cole situation but it could certainly be some sort of Wynne/Anders situation or even Mihris, as she allowed Imshael to occupy her for a time, until Felassan realised what was going on and Imshael decided it would be expedient to leave. So, basically, if we are right and Lucanis does have a passenger it could be just about anybody from the spirit world. Also, provided he didn't allow it to coexist and then it kept him alive, I'm hopeful it could be reversed even if it is a demon, based off Mihris. The demon just needs the right incentive to leave. However, it could be a more benign spirit, I just haven't worked out which one yet. I suggested Justice might have found a new host because in Tevinter Nights he did seem to want to exact Justice/Vengeance for the poor slaves that had been so badly abused by the Wigmaker. He was also very insistent that Illario should rescue the other slaves and take them to safety, which Illario was not happy about but didn't dare disobey him. It seemed very much like something Justice would encourage Lucanis to do.

I couldn't resist posting this by Muse. I used to play it when thinking about Fenris but I think it is even more appropriate for Lucanis, bearing in mind the double meaning exorcising demons from his past could have. I also wonder, is it possible Lucanis is a virgin? I know the lesser Crows are trained for seduction and Illario was clearly only too glad to mix business with pleasure but the story does say that when Lucanis had opened the wrong door and walked in on an orgy one time "Getting out of that had been interesting". Not entirely sure what that implied but I know Zevran would have happily joined in, whereas Lucanis seemed too focused for any such distractions to be welcome. Plus he is said to be socially awkward. You would think his grandmother would have trained him in the social graces as part of her grooming of him for his role in life, so it does make me wonder. Perhaps she was a bit too insistent that he should never give way to his emotions and the physical beatings to drive lessons home had a negative lasting effect on him.

I was acquainting myself with Lucanis lore, and I definitely think he has something spirit-touched going on. 1) during the Wigmaker Job, he wrecks an elven artifact that strengthens the veil, releasing demons that possess slaves, party guests, and the wigmaker himself. The sheer deathtoll results in Lucanis carrying the nickname "The Demon". Feels like foreshadowing. 2) He's described as getting an itch behind his eyes when something taps into the Fade. His eyes are shown to glow in the tarot card. 3) He has, one way or another, survived his apparent death.

As long as we won't have another Blackwall situation, I'm content. I made a quick inventory of spirits we've seen so far: In the short story 'The Next One', we have a spirit of Perseverance. We've also had Valor and Faith(DAO), Justice(Awakening, DA2) and Compassion(DAI). If Lucanis has been, say, revived by a spirit, it could be one of those or a spirit embodying another virtue altogether. I'm kind of hoping that wont be the case for Lucanis, I couldn't explain why, I just don't much care for the idea. Rather than having Lucanis be possessed or something like that, I think the purplish glow might have more to do with the general color palette for Veilguard. As in, the color purple is meaningful, like previously green signified the Fade or something related to the Fade. I think Lucanis' eyes glowing might be because his situation is unique to him, if that makes sense. I have a problem with starting to try and explain my own complicated thoughts and I feel like I very rarely manage to make sense and be understood by others. If you at any time feel like I'm not making sense, I promise you I'm trying but failing.
