as well as Champions of the Just. If this includes the part where we meet Cole, I am very interested. Imho it’s the best character introduction in the game and WAY better than the time traveling nonsense. champions of the Just wasn't just a great quest but made Inquisition better. Surprising since it was the Templar path.

champions of the Just wasn't just a great quest but made Inquisition better. Surprising since it was the Templar path. Unfortunately many casual players may have missed out on it because they preferred supporting the mages and the mage path had been so heavily promoted, even featuring in a game play reveal beforehand. However, I notice that she is also credited with writing Samson's personal quest which was the only thing that made his presence as Cory's main lieutenant on that path remotely interesting. I enjoyed both her stories in Tevinter Nights too, so I'm anticipating Emmrich will be interesting as a character.

I may have been a bit sleep deprived by that point, but I did not notice giant text warning me that I can not do Mages quest if I pick Templar quest.
Not only is it actual introduction to Cole, as well you later get more background story on Corypheus, but I think Dorian gets even better introduction too. Not only you get his warning in Redcliff, but he also comes against at Haven, even starts arguing with Cullen over his plan to bury us all with an avalanche. Cole doesn't say anything in Mage path.

I have to admit I am *fascinated* by how drawn a lot of people are to this character. I suppose this will be the first time you can romance an older gentleman in the series. Not my type at all but you go girls. It's guys too... there's dozens of us.

Unfortunatley it was not an accident when I did it since it was on a second PT...but it was a case of 'how do I bend my RP into a direction to justify this character doing this thing so I can do a different path to my first Inquisitor.' Because first Inquisitor was a pro Chantry mage. Second Inquisitor was an anti Chantry rogue...so why would she go after the Templars? Well because she gets to Redcliffe and sees something really sus going on between the mages and the sus Tevinter Imperium which she wants to kind of trust but then maybe the Chantry is right...so off to the Templars she goes! and then she finds out she gets the option to disband them! Love some of these RP stories and how I have developped these characters. Ben, my first guy, also had something similar. Wanted to romance Cass with him so wanted to shackle the mages, now the idea in his head/ my headcanon was it was just going to be temporary and the Mages were essentially on parole to be given their freedom later because they did betray people and joined with Tevinter. But everyone was congragulating him for shackling them! He was not a happy camper.

I was pretty upset with the reaction in game, particularly Leliana (poor mages deserve their freedom you horrid person), to conscripting the mages because I did see it as the sensible option. They had sold out to Tevinter, which was pretty shitty of them considering the monarch of Ferelden had given them sanctuary and the most defensible castle in the kingdom to hang out in for the duration of the Conclave. I saw it as putting them on parole but that comment was given to someone who freed the mages, which made no sense to me because if they are totally free to act they are not on parole. Also, it still irks me that we couldn't try Fiona for her part in the debacle. I couldn't believe it when she wasn't held to account for her actions. (She betrayed the Divine in Asunder in using the meeting to discuss Tranquility to be another call for independence, and then she betrayed Ferelden in DAI and the mages who didn't want to be indentured to Tevinter). Still on the Templar path we get to kill her (another reason I prefer it). However, I think they must have taken some of the criticism on board in the writing team because in the epilogue to Trespasser it turned out that the Conscripted mages formed the Bright Hand, independent of the Circle and the College of Enchanters, who were the most confident in standing up to Vivienne and most responsible when it came to their conduct generally as they wanted to be an example of the best that mages can be. So, I was happy in the end.

Is there any justification or proof of the beliefs of the Mortalitasi? Or is it all just hogwash they tell themselves to employ Dark Magic in a sanitised way? They claim that when people die, their souls moving into the Fade displace a spirit so they trap it in a dead body and just let them be? Solas, who seems like the primary expert on spiritual matters has a very low opinion on them, and Cole the resident quasi Spirit turned Mortal also dislikes their practices.

Going by Tevinter Nights, the belief seems the results of Nevarra City thin Veil allowing spirits (or demons) to cross over by themselves to take over dead bodies soon after death without any mage help.

It is my theory that their beliefs are much older than the foundation of the Mortalitasi at the end of the Glory Age. Their founder was a Tevinter mage at a time before the split with the southern Chantry, so presumably why they found it easier to establish this rite connected with the dead that was so at variance with Chantry beliefs. So, I think she may have merely revived a much older religious practice from the ancient Imperium, which in turn may have been based off an even earlier tradition among the followers of Falon'Din (the God of the Dead). I have my suspicions that the Grand Necropolis was also already in existence, likely buried under sand and gradually excavated and reused, because it is said to be vast and even with the passage of several hundred years I find it hard to believe that was sufficient time or the Nevarrans had sufficient money and manpower to construct it. It would likely need a civilisation with the power and slave work force of the ancient Imperium at the very least. However, Solas said that Mythal bloodied Falon'Din in his own temple. Perhaps that was the Grand Necropolis. As for the attitude of Solas and Cole, there are two aspects to this. Solas seems to object on the basis that the spirit has effectively been shackled and is technically a slave. From what I remember of Cole's objection it is that the spirit is actually harmed in some way, although that may be specifically connected with Necromancy spells rather than the workings of the Grand Necropolis. Solas didn't seem to have a problem with necromancy when talking with an Inquisitor who took this as their specialism, which always surprised me in view of what Cole says on the matter. Yet, he did have an objection to Dorian's use of spirits, again on the basis that it denied them their free will. So, I don't know if he was antagonistic towards Dorian because of his (then) attitude towards spirits and slaves, which was broadly similar, or whether he was just being duplicitous with the Inquisitor because of his own agenda that was using them for his own ends and not wanting to antagonise them. It might also be worth considering that Solas said that Falon'Din began wars to increase the number of his followers and the blood flowed from those he killed to appease his vanity. If his followers actually comprised the bodies of fallen warriors inhabited by spirits it would explain why he needed to create situations that would result in more deaths, since at that time the elves were immortal so the only way he could acquire followers would be through accident, war or disease (also rare among elves at that time). Notice that in Trespasser the codex said he tried to start a war with Elgar'nan but Mythal prevented it by suggesting they solve their differences with Champions instead. No doubt that wasn't what Falon'Din wanted.

That's cool to know, I completely missed this. When do Solas and Cole talk about the Mortalitasi? Is it in game?

If you take the Necromancer specialization in Inquisition and talk to Cole and Solas, they express their dislike for the practice.

I wonder if by "Emmrich missions" they mean regular missions that they took Emmrich on instead of another companion because they are responsible for testing him in different environments or if the companions will get multiple missions that are specific to them. It would certainly help with leveling their relationship meter so none get left behind, if you can level this only on main missions or companion specific missions.

Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.social It's usually pronounced "EMM-rick." (I say usually because I can't remember whether there are any cases of a Nevarran character putting something closer to the German pronunciation on it, but assume that for almost everyone, it's that.)

The second one makes me think of the gardens with estate the noble build themselves there in the Grand Necropolis...

Whatever it is, both pictures look really creepy yet it is exciting to think that we are definitely going there this game and not just some small section but a proper depiction of it.

If he is SUPER charming with a wicked sense of humor I can see myself considering him as a love interest. But I'd have to know beforehand what he's like and make an older Rook. There's no way I'm romancing an old dude with a 20 something looking Rook, yikes.
