I'm pretty much settled now in running with a Rook based off a character from my fan fiction. He is a Dalish elf but something of a maverick so does not have vallaslin and left his clan in order to better protect them, as his presence might have brought them into danger (he was dabbling with blood magic at the time). He was also a shapeshifter but I can work around that one. He knew about the return of Fen'Harel and his intent having attended the same Arlathvehen as Inquisitor Lavellan, around a year or so after Trespasser, when Lavellan was explaining to the Dalish what they had discovered about the ancient elves. The Dalish were somewhat split how to react to this (I will be interested to see what the writers do with it) but Ellas (Hope in elvish) resolved to track down Solas and stop him, as appropriate to his determination to protect his people, since he believed Lavellan when they said that Solas' ritual would destroy them and his world (he loves the natural world and the creatures there so he is protecting them too). Following his own leads, he ended up in Minrathous and joined the Shadow Dragons because he approved of their aims and rumour had it that Solas had been seen in the city. I can see him doing what Rook did in the trailer in order to stop Solas. (Actually he would probably have attacked him directly but perhaps by then he had accepted this would be suicidal and he didn't fancy being a stone statue).
I'm hoping that this dovetails with the background they give for a Shadow Dragon elf. If they say they were a former slave, then I can work round that by saying he was captured by slavers on his journey north. His father was an apostate from the Ferelden Circle and before that a city elf from Denerim, so he learned a lot from him about human ways and city life, which is why he wouldn't be so much a fish out of water as Merrill was initially in Kirkwall. I await to see what the different mage specialisations entail but at present I would probably opt for the combat mage but otherwise an elementalist.
Of course, it may be that the background they give for each faction completely contradicts this. That happened with DAI. I had developed the idea of having an elven apostate Circle mage for that and then the elf background was Dalish, which didn't fit her biography at all. I still think my background would have made more sense for her to be at the Conclave but there you go.

This is extremely easy for me this time around, since I like to have some class and race diversity within each world state. I started with an archer Cousland Rogue, then two-handed Warrior Hawke, and the dual dagger Cadash. Very much time for a mage in my 'canon' world state, and I'm going Qunari this time.
I am leaning toward Veil Jumper for her faction - my headcanon/plan so far is that she's a young Vashoth who has spent much of her life travelling around looking for people to train her in magic, so she headed to the Arlathan Forest when she heard people there were working on cool stuff.

I have no idea. I play female or male, sometimes depending on romances but with the all ready to drop their pants that won't be an influence. So now I gotta hear the voices. Faction wise, I gotta see the perks of each faction. I don't think I will play Shadow Dragon (stupid name) and I don't want to play too much of a goodie two shoes. Class wise, probably between mage or rogue. Gotta to see more gameplay.
What I know is if there's troll dialogue option, I'm clicking it again and again.
Oh forgot races? Well I played Elf in DAI, and I liked the whole getting tricked by your own trickster god. So if there's Dalish again i might go down the path of having to smack my own gods, I enjoy the drama of it all.

All mage for mage. I will play as Mage like I always do in previous game.
Human Male Mage to be precise. Who look like me Thai-Chinese (in best way possible) plus a bit of muscle. Because he is front line mage. His faction still not decide, between Shadow dragon, Veil Jumper and Grey Warden.

I will definitely go crow. Not sure which gender, need to know more about the romance characters. And don't know the Class. But i will go with Human or Elve. As i have Zevran and Josephine romance in this world state, my crow HC want to change the organisation. And working with the Inquisition to get them to help. I am not sure what we can appoint for the faction, but if i can HC will be a runaway with special power.

Faction wise, I gotta see the perks of each faction. I don't think I will play Shadow Dragon (stupid name) and I don't want to play too much of a goodie two shoes. I don't see my guy as a goodie two shoes. I did mention how he was dabbling with blood magic at one time. He's had a run in with a Tevinter blood mage and gave him some of his own medicine. It wasn't pretty. Afterwards he realised he was taking a very dark path so decided to stop that. He's also had a run in with Antivan Crows (which didn't end well for them) so it will be interesting to see how his initial meeting with Lucanis goes. Perhaps they can bond over killing Venatori. He had a girlfriend back with the Dalish but broke up with her because he could see she would be better off with the clan than trailing around Thedas with him and would make a really good Keeper and leader without him creating problems. So, I will be focusing on developing friendships initially and if that develops naturally into something more all well and good but I think I will leave my options open on that one.

I meant goodie two shoes because the goal of the SD is noble compared to say Lord of Fortune. I'm already forever stuck saving the world in those games, I want some selfish roleplay.

I meant goodie two shoes because the goal of the SD is noble compared to say Lord of Fortune. I sort of feel the opposite. Despite what Alistair thought the Grey Wardens are, as the name suggests, a bit Grey. If you really embraced that role it is you do what you have to defeat the Blight, the ends justify the means. Duncan killing Jordy did align with that but it still shocked me. However, by the time of the Landsmeet I could see why Riorden suggested sparing Loghain instead of killing him. His death wasn't going to bring Duncan and the other Wardens back but he could still prove useful to the Order. That sort of thing. Then we had Hawke, who really was a sort of fortune hunter. We spent the entire first Act trying to raise the funds to be included on a Deep Roads trip that was likely to give us even more treasure. It was an entirely selfish enterprise. You didn't have to defeat the Arishok, just ensure he went away. You could still be Champion for killing his minions and then waving him goodbye back to Par Vollen. Then dealing with Orsino and Meredith was really forced on you, so nothing really heroic there. My motivation was to side with the mages because the majority had had nothing to do with the death of Elthina but other people certainly didn't see it that way, even Varric! As for the Inquisitor, there was never an option to really change the status quo. You are working according to the remit of the last Divine and have to subscribe to Josephine's view that the Chantry is a unifying force in Thedas which we should preserve as the dominant religion, even though it seemed a perversion of what Andraste intended. I did my best, making Gaspard the puppet of Briala and getting Leliana as Divine but by the end of Trespasser it was clear that on the whole down south it was going to be business as usual. I'm hoping that when they say the faction you choose will actually matter down the line means that my Shadow Dragon will be allowed to mix things up a bit in Tevinter and at the end of the day it will last, so I won't be saving the world just for everything to go on much as before. Still, even if I am only going to be given the illusion of making a difference, I am happy to settle for that because I like being part of a faction that isn't about preserving the status quo and isn't entirely selfish, although I imagine that just as with the Wardens we sometimes employ rather questionable means. (I'd have gone for Veil Jumper if I knew anything at all about their motivations but at present they are too vague to sign on)

So as I have mentioned been thinking about this for a while in other places and suppose trying to do a lot of iterations on this, remember, then keep on filling in the blanks. I do suppose to that this will act as his origin story if I never get around to actually writing it.
Human, rogue. Son of a Tevinter Noble House whose magic never developped and thus joined the army to win glory for himself and make himself useful. And to defend his home and nation from the Qunari.
In the army though he has a bit of a rough time of it. Its not exactly the image he had in his mind and people tend to specifically look down on him because of his ancesestory and view him as a bit of a pretty boy. He does slowly start to integrate with the rest of the army though and takes up Archery to become an official scout for the Imperial Legion he is with. After spending three years at war his unit is assigned to take on a fortress the Qunari had moved into. He starts getting indications of corruption within the ranks, something is odd about some of the people who have been visiting the camp lately and the mention of red Lyrium puts him instantly on edge. Meanwhile during all this to he falls for his superior officer. On the initial assault of the fortress despite them gaining access to the Lyrium stores, she is captured. He wants to mount a rescue mission, but his officers refuse. He decides to take matters into his own hand and rescue her with his other team mate in tow. They do so and then fall into a cave full of Darkspawn. At the end though they make it home and she is disciplined in the end.
Shortly after his father is killed under mysterious circumstances, but this leaves him effectively as the heir to the throne so he is recalled to take over the family's affairs. In the process though he decides to go Vigilante and hunt down Venatori, at first at his own but eventually gets through more and more team members with him as well to join him. Eventually he starts looking into the Venatori more, investigating his father's death, and even works with the Shadow Dragons a bit who wants to recruit him. In the end though he is betrayed and arrested by the local city guards, the loyal members of his team gets killed, his contact in the SDs get killed, and the Qunari attack and invade the city he is in at the time. From there he flees the city to join with the Shadow Dragons permenantly...or off to the Crows. Probably leaning more towards the Crows given what we already know about the SD origin but I guess even then I can head canon he was raised in Minrathous before his family moved on to wherever he wanted.
Personality wise though this will mark a first for me in two regards...maybe. Think I will borrow maybe more from the comics a little because I heard GA is funnier in the comics then in Arrow...but he is still going to be pretty serious and brooding at times. Option number 2 is, given his history, playing him as being very damaged in the beginning and a bit weary about being apart of a team or leading it. Came up in the show just not to maybe the extent I am thinking of doign it here. Which pretty much all of my characters I play in these games, minus with the exception of characters I didn't really like playing, is very team focussed and building the team. The idea I hope to have is someone who isn't into the team building thing, and also has kind of become very jaded, but then starts becoming warmer to the team and starts becoming more idealistic again. Though a real Gray character still since he was a very 'between the shadow and the light' kind of guy, very practical.
Still starting to lean more towards Crows for the background because it will probably be easier to work in and explain...but of course between the two of them it will depend on which one gives the better bonuses. Mind you if my personal pet theory is right I imagine that the SDs are going to get Venatori bonuses and the Crows will get Qunari bonuses. Plus though for purposes of the fic its going to be interesting if I even reveal which org he ultimatley goes for.

I'm curious if the CC will allow customizable hair color details, like highlights or fading, or just have one single block of color. I also hope they keep the system from DAI for scars where you could move them wherever on the face you wanted and decide how visible they were. First Rook I'll be running is likely going to be a female Qunari warrior Veil Jumper. Since DAI I've been wanting a dutch braid hairstyle and it looks like I'll finally get one, since Taash has a big ol' braid. The Qunari Inquisitors I've made have been grey or copper skinned, so maybe Rook could be more onyx or obsidian colored. All I ask is for a good number of hairstyles that don't cover the forehead or have hairs framing the sides of the face. I'm fed up with FFXIV having 99% of its hairstyles covering half the face, including details like scars or tattoos, and clipping with headgear.

Gender - Female Faction - Shadow Dragon Lineage - Elf Class - ?
Female cause most of my characters are, and certainly the first playthrough.
I've hoped to aid slave rebellion in Tevinter so the shadow dragons make for a perfect background for that.
I've thought for ages that it would be satisfying to beat Solas with an elf, I think that also applies to our surprise guests from the gameplay.
I've also thought it would be cool to be aided by spirits against him. So I suppose necromancer would work, though that speciality hasn't come off as consensual as spirit healer and spirit warrior so I'll wait to find out the thematic story description of the various specialisations before settling on my class I think. But there's also the new gameplay style to consider, i usually handle manual dodging/attacking in games by avoiding it with a stealth archer, so the difficulty/easy options will influence my choice aswell.

Honestly I am going to be a bit basic and just go human male warrior for my first character that chooses the Lords of fortune background. I want to initially experience the story from a more neutral basic perspective. In my second and third playthroughs I will experiment with the more interesting backgrounds and racial options.

Gender: Female Faction: Grey Warden Lineage: Elf Class: Combat Mage (whatever that entails ) I feel like I want to go back to our roots as a Grey Warden. She will most likely be a city elf who was conscripted as an apostate after the Chantry explosion in Kirkwall. I see her as a devoted Warden and if there are hard truths to learn about her order, she might not take it so well Personality-wise, she will be no nonsense and very mission focused. Basically the opposite of my Hawke, and my Inquisitor to an extent. Depending on the companion personalities she will either become more approachable or even more resigned to the mission. As far as Solas is concerned she will most likely be less inclined to redeem him, but will defer to the Inquisitor if they want to try (this largely depends on the Inky's role in the game). I also might be sketching at work rather than what I'm supposed to be doing >.>

For my first character i`m leaning towards Human Female Mage as it is what i usual do in my first playthroughs and it will be nice to play a mage in a kingdom where they are not the underdogs but the elite for a change. I`m considering Shadow Dragon as it seems fit for a rebel Tevinter Mage that want`s to fight slavery but i`ll have to know a bit more about the perks of each faction before deciding.

Male Qunari mage (might go with the combat specialization depending on how it works), and I'd probably want to go full oddball with the background choice. Currenly nailed down to Antivan Crow, Mourn Watch or Veil Jumper.

Female elf, probably rogue. All my canon characters have been female elves that were rogue, aside from Hawke of course but she was also a rogue. So, hate to break that tradition.

Male Qunari, Warrior, Antivan Crow (for maximum nonsense and fuckery). But if I don't vibe with how the qunari look and elves can be made into hunks, then perhaps a male elf instead.

I might recreate my main Shepard look for my Rook. Since game is going for more Mass Effect style approach, it feels appropriate.

Gender - Male Faction - Shadow Dragon Lineage - Dwarf OR Qunari Class - Rogue: Duelist (melee Dwarf) OR Saboteur or Veil Ranger (ranged Qunari)
I like having variety in my canon world state (female dwarf archer warrior Warden, male human dagger and bow rogue Champion, female qunari close-combat mage Inquisitor), and sometimes it works out that I also have race and gender combinations not present in the companion pool. Which is one of the reasons my Rook is not an Elf. I like that rogues can use swords again, which will look nice with a "fighter-thief" dwarf. If I go with the Qunari instead, I would prefer Saboteur (especially if the resource management and trap use works better on ranged this time around), but may be open to Veil Ranger depending on the abilities.
Both canon Rook choices will lean "purple" personality (which will be a first for my canon), but still looking out for their faction's noble agenda. If I go with the Dwarf, he will probably romance Bellara then Davrin. If I go with the Qunari, he will romance Harding. I am uncertain how Rook will approach the Solas question, but my Inquisitor is "stop at all costs."
