General Gameplay Discussion

I call it a skill graph - aside from the beginning where you have 3 choices the entirety of it is 2 choice splits and it'll essentially make a build for you. Just go a little at a time and aim for whatever specialization seems most fun to you 😄

I like having lots of things to pick when leveling up in theory, but staff mage is in such a bad place that you have to be very careful what you pick at the start, or you will be left with nothing to cast in combat. I think the first default mage ability they give you should have a much, much lower mana cost. That way at least you would have one spell you could cast fairly often. I wish I had taken the early ice spell first for that reason, but I instead went with chain lightning, which has a similar problem. I actually think mana costs should be reduced on all of the early spells you get, but at very least for the first one.

One thing I think would have been a cool tweak to the first act. Was if you picked a Rogue or Mage, Harding/Neve should have been swapped out with a warrior companion. Because it can take a long time to get the first warrior companion if u go out exploring.

The main story says go to the Wardens but I got all these other side quests and Want to make sure I'm not supposed to be doing them first. Plus, I'm still missing two companions, 20 hours in. Side quest names are in here!


So which ones do I need to do before I go to the Anderfels?

Some of those require progressing story to open Eluvians. But I think I only had the last one left (The Heart of Corruption: find the final source) when I did the GW bit. I don't think the others would fail though?

I did have all the companions. I forget the names of all the quests though, I'll have to check. What is the name of your main story quest atm?

It drastically improves replayability for one

you can't hold it down so you have to be really precise with it. It lasts for about a second

I'm obviously not very good at combat, but I've found the normal (adventurer) difficulty of DAV to be much harder than previous DA games. I'm dying a lot in DAV when I hardly ever died in DAI or before.


Unless you're a spellblade, how often do mages need to shield? Genuine question. I find myself spamming the dodge button so much I forget to shield.
