Honestly, I did not expect Morrigan to arrive so early! Hopefully she plays a substantial role in defeating the Gods. It's actually interesting that she's playing more of an Obi Wan role for this game. Great character development from the immature seductress lol. XD

I'm probably an outlier here, but I've spent 6 hours in the CC, and am still there. I can't seem to get my Inquisitor even close to right. Anyone else? I definitely couldn’t. I’m not sure it’s possible. The best advice I’ve seen is to recreate your Inquisitor from memory (not by looking at a screenshot) and go with that as the closest you’ll get. Otherwise you’ll frustrate yourself. That's what I did and got a REALLY good looking Inquisitor as a result. He looked older and more mature just the way I wanted it while looking somewhat similar to my Inquisitor a decade ago.

So I think I’m still in act one ten hours in and I’ve just hit level 20 I’ve just had to pick which city gets blighted However I do have a question I’mSure I saw somewhere prerelease that when you did the Solas memory’s in the crossroads that the murals in the lighthouse would reveal themselves but that doesn’t seem to be happening. am I wrong? You need to pick-up a wolf statue that appears once you finish the memory and place it in a spot under the murals inside the Lighthouse. I thought as much, my game may be buggy then because I don’t have that option.

Guys, I think I missed where to customize inky... I thought this would come up later somehow but apprently it's right at the start when you do Rook? HOW did I miss this?! Does anybody know what the default world state is? I'm NOT starting over! Took me forever to get Rook to look good. I don't really care about my inky and don't even remember what she looked like after 10 years and none of my screenshots survived my PC upgrade. So that part I don't care about. But I wanted to set the 3 choices to what I had. This blows. How is there no warning that you missed the other character customization? Just arrived at the Lighthouse. I guess I'll just see what happens when you forget to set a world state. I assume there is no way to do it later? Or can I do it with the mirror? I haven't used it yet. Gonna check... The game doesn't feel like a Bioware game anymore, feels like another studio made a kid version of Dragon Age as an action adventure. I'm basically Link smashing urns for glowing things and looking for shiny gold nuggets in dark corners. Yikes. MEA while also being a shit Mass Effect game still had the familiar Bioware flair, just a shittier version of it. But this is something else entirely wearing Dragon Age's knock-off skin. Dialogue is just short sentences in between running around. Just sound bites for children so that they don't get overwhelmed. Everything glows, so you don't get lost. I even turned off stuff glowing from miles away but it doesn't help much. Granted, kinda feels like the equally shit prologue of ME3, but eh. I still don't really understand how and why they recruited Rook and how long he's known these people. It all feels so disjointed and rushed. The pacing is just awful but I expected as much. I have zero feel for Rook. This is just a faceless avatar with a short written background thrown at you. In any case,I'll try to play my Rook as a mix of sarcastic/playful and gruff. My headcanon is that he is ususally easy-going but has a temper and is easily frustrated. So sometimes he's grouchy but when he's relaxed he's a bit of a charmer. He's mostly serious though when the situation is dangerous and focused on getting out of there. Let's see how much I'm able to roleplay here, my expectations are low. I still plan on romancing Neve. A few screenshots of the prologue: Must be the shortes character introduction in history this bar scene... I'm actually glad that Rook scowls a lot and looks super serious at all times during the prologue. The best thing about the game is the environments I guess. The lighting is very good, I have everything maxed out on ultra, but had to resort to DLLS + frame generation to get 80-100fps at 5K even with a 4090. Water looks really nice. I just wish the faces didn't look so distractingly Disney. The Lord Of Fortune casual wear looks like gay Aladdin to me, not at all what I'd imagine a pirate to look like. Almost put me off picking this faction. Rook be like: I'm a Bollywood reject but you know you love me! Since I cannot take this game seriously anyway, I might as well surrender and embrace the ridiculous look of this game.

Okay, Day 1 had a bit of rough start, but things got rolling after that. Environs & anims - fantastic. There's a lot of verticality (look up & down!). The most fun thing about a Mage? Honestly, lasering all the containers and destructibles - so good. So, I'm continuing to take it slow... I've made it through the Arlathan arc, including the forest, D'Meta's Crossing, the Veil Jumper Outpost, and the Temple to retrieve the McGuffin. Now back in the Lighthouse with my new Fish Tank! I also noticed a lot of fish hopping in the streams & lakes in the game, and now I kinda wish there was a fishing mini-game in DA:V.

A quick note regarding the announcement requiring posters to not discuss Game End and End of Act spoilers. Which you can read here: bsn.boards.net/thread/20412/game-spoiler-discussions-listed-threads?page=1&scrollTo=1662832For a while, while people are having their first playthroughs, it's just too dangerous to allow such spoilers. For this thread. Please be really vague when you reach the end of each Act and the End of the Game. We owe it to everyone to not surprise and spoil their experience. Thanks.

This for is the Inquisitor who ended up looking just like Ser Ruth, FWIW. Regrettably, there's no option for a Qun!Bull romance. So I picked "none;" I guess we're in "never mention that name in my presence again" territory.

Did some more stuff/missions. Visited Minrathous and I just find it funny how Rook really like heights, there are a few idles tied to it. I think right now, my favorite companion is Neve and then Bellara. Sorry Harding. I will get a 4th one shortly. Using the first Warrior Ultimate you unlock is hilarious as a dwarf. Tiny Hulk Smash!

Hmmm... I didn't even consider most of the backgrounds since I didn't want to play as a member of a faction I have no experience of. But the Grey Warden's background makes him look like a reasonable choice for the organization; leadership ability, combat ability, and the willingness to disobey orders when it's the right thing to do. I take it the others don't? I'm happy enough with a game that doesn't tell me who my PC was.

As for the topic, I did manage to get through launch, 40 minutes of shader building, chargen, and the first couple of conversations. Still don't know if my rig will actually be able to handle combat.

Thoughts/Comments of my new Rook. I had to give up on my Antivan Crow Elf, after I realized that Rook is automatically Dalish religion if you are an elf. Also just got train tracked into being a hero and that's not what I think an Antivan Crow should be forced to be. SIGH. This is up to and through Bellara recruitment and some of the Veil Jumper Camp - ya know, whole essays on how Alistair gave up leadership to the Warden. Yet no conversation on the scout with over 10 years of experience leading the group after Varric becomes injured. No promotions for Scout Harding, poor duck.
- “The Venatori found Solas and the demons found him.” You literally already said that, Harding, 30 seconds before
- The prologue is really fast when you don’t care what anybody is saying (my 2nd time through)
- What is that facial expression Solas makes? He knows Varric has been tracking him for a while.
- Are these dead bodies (near the ritual site)? Who are they? Are they the slaves Solas freed from Tevinter? Who put up the scaffolding in Arlathan? Did the slaves he freed do the scaffolding? Ironic.
- “There are consequences to the raw Fade.” joke spoilers, there were no consequences
- This is a cool moment (Elven gods appearing), I just wish there was about 3 hours of gameplay before this to actually establish Rook. Bioware hasn't been good at PC intro since origins
- *watching Rook pant and pass out* Reminds me of Andromeda. In Andromeda, you actually lose your mask and can’t breath and pass out from lack of air.
- What is up with this dream world falling apart while we talk to Solas?
- Oh yeah, an Easter Egg – Harding walking into the room in the Lighthouse, she’s looking for Elftoot.
- I actually like how my Rook looks and talks. I wasn’t happy with my Rook on the initial. American VA sounds too mcuh like Harding though so she won't be in the party
- There isn't fall damage. Why am I using the stairs? No one is using the stairs.
- Why is there a puzzle to open a door in his own house anyway? Solas weird
- Since I am now playing as a human, I can say that you can see colors in the fade even if you aren’t an Elf. Lore breaking. No headaches either.
- Irelin, your accent is atrocious. Skip skip SKIP
- Oh my gosh, Bellara. This dialogue about your celebrity crush on Neve is not making you sound better.
- Sometimes they put glowy things to guide your eyes somewhere, but sometimes there’s nothing there. What give
- Why is there tiny amounts of money constantly?
- StrifeL “They’re elusive, even for gods.” What does that mean? How elusive are gods, typically, and how would you know?
- The Aravels aren’t ridiculously tiny this time.
- *takes time to see the tree dead people.* whoa. Dark.
- Why did they place this boat here right in front of this dead man? These boats are new. So someone placed that here with the tree person facing it.
- Who told the Veil Jumpers that the Evenuris were bad people? The dalish were following Solas but I guess the Veil Jumpers has all the real info the whole time? Kind of jerks about witholding that knowledge from the rest of their people

Continuing with Grey Warden Thorne, Human Warrior (intended romance unknown.) This is up to after Dmeter Crossing and finishes with a 2nd conversation with Solas in the Deep Fade (cuz we already in the Fade so he must just be deeper eh?) - “There’s blight in there. I can feel it.” Finally, they’re using Grey Warden stuff for Rook
- *horrified upon entering further* It didn’t matter that they barricaded anything. They definitely lost.
- This Blight is gross. This is worse than Origins (in a good way).
- Since when does blight give mind control powers? (AN oh ya, blood magic)
- *sees doorways full of melted corpses* Um, I think everyone’s definitely dead. This is the first time I’ve felt concerned.
- Rook asks “have you ever seen anything like this before”, and Harding says “no, the Blight is usually dead.” WTF is this conversation? Should have been the other way around with my Grey Warden.
- Why did they repeat an NPC face in the same mission? They ever heard of randomize?
- These villagers have gone American Gothic.
- Why is Harding explaining the Blight to Grey Warden Rook? Why did Rook even ask such a stupid question?
- A Dragon! Ah!... Ghila is in the dragon? (Ghila says nonesense and flies away)Bad guys always showing up, saying stuff, and running away for us to fight them later. We could have died or become heros now! Pulling a Power Rangers episode on us
- I choose to make the mayor a Grey Warden because clearly we need more Wardens right now. How are you seriously disapproving of this right now?
- Conscript him to the Wardens, then we just walk away with him still being trapped by the blighted plant with a fade to black. So bad I laughed
- If Varric didn’t survive, who would have narrated this WAY TOO FRIGGEN MUCH?
- What does “tapping the blight” do? Since when has blight been a source of power? since this game I guess
- *strife calls Morrigan friend* It’s nice to know the Dalish forgave her for stealing that magical book a couple decades back.
- You look dumb with your hair going through your face mask, Morrigan.
- Morrigan's posing is also dumb-- that looks uncomfortable
- (this is my husban'ds complaint. He romanced her) Baby-face Morrigan is immersion breaking. She looked older in Origins. Powerful witch magic, I guess.
- *go t get the dagger* What is up with this pep-talk? This is definitely a prime example of the HR talk folks talk about. Reminds me of summer camp
- The doors of Arlathan are so weird that they need this much power and effort just to open
- Oh neat. Harding actually asked Rook a Grey Warden question
- The POV of the villains a la Origins have returned
- Rook seeksout Solas for a chat? Bullshit we don't need him.
- Varric narrating is stupid. This is even more often than DA2
- Oooooh. Isatunal. The dwarves are Legion is what you're saying. Why is Mass Effect bleeding into my Dragon Age?
- Wait what? Tevinter magisters freed Solas? We not going to talk about that? Why was he in a prison? How is this not an option to discuss right now?!

Explored Crossroads earlier today; despite all changes game still has DA feel. Things that I hate are: - no quicksave/quickload - no difficulty related achievements
Andromeda at least had Insanity achievement...

Bioware said in one of Q&A that the Crossroads looks the same for everyone because the Evanuris messed with it. Convenient that Tbh, i can understand Bioware here. Exploring an area that looks very, idk, drab is not very enjoyable. It was fine in Trespasser, because you don't spend a lot of time in the Crossroads, but it's not the case in DAVe. I can understand being disappointed, tho.

Another 2 hours in CC. Finally have a Rook that I can live with. I gave up on recreating my Lavellan. The CC limitations made it impossible. Disappointing because I didn't use any mods in DAI. She will be a stranger to me when she shows up in game, except for her voice. I finished the prologue and explored the Lighthouse.

I never should've doubted Mary Kirby. Lucanis is an abomination and sounds like Antonio Banderas and still feels grounded.
Bellara herself is fine, but good god the music cues that play whenever she has a cutscene. It's so overly whimsical. I liked the conversation she had with Harding about dwarven and elven language.
Subtext, wherefore art thou.
There's a lot of good little reactivity details. During the Shadow Dragon mission, my elf knew the meaning to an elven term and explained it to Neve. I thought that was a nice touch. I enjoyed meeting Dorian, and even asshole First Warden guy. He's pretty memorable and willing to chew scenery like no one's business.

As I have referenced I have had a DEVIL of a time trying to get on. Fate, bad luck, and probably more of my own biological frailties and anything else made it a really trying time to get on and actually do anything. But now that I am playing the game for a bit TODAY I am quite enjoying it. General notes and preamble on how I do things, or at least WANTED to do things before I get started though. 1. Usually in any other 'what did you do' threads for the spoiler warning I post quest name then spoiler tag, bla bla bla. This was the way I intended to and practiced doing it with Veilguard in mind because that would be the big one, and while I am tempted, I am also torn because there are two big problems. A. That quest names itself might be considered spoilers and especially with the latest admonation from SofaJockey on the endgame that coulc also count and B. I don't even often times remember what the quest names are exactly so there is that and it did just occur to me I also might do what I thought of that one time and go with an approach lifted from Friends 'the one where we went to Weishaupt'...etc. 2. I tend to ramble a lot. I make really long posts in these threads talking about anything that is on my mind, I notice a lot of short posts in here, so I appologize for the wall of text that is incoming, but I have a LOT to get off my chest. First thing I did was I went to go start working on my settings. Since this is the first game where I codified this I decided to turn on the 'color blind' setting for Deuten because I guess I have a SLIGHT color blindness (think that emphasis will come up in importance later, maybe some of you are already going 'uh oh' IDK). My tips here, in case someone reads this in the future I guess, is that I was calibrating the brightness and contrast by looking at a floating building off the Lighthouse proper in the background of the menu. I discovered that this was a bad idea because the menu darkens that bit of the thing. Second note is that there isn't the entire suite of options somehow, so I recommend making sure on clicking it again. Pretty smooth, or so I thought. The Character Creator is where the trouble really began. And I love it in a way Andromeda like but with the same stuff from the trilogy and what not. But I almost hated it because well the Inquisitor can't really create her right, I had a plan, BUT I also didn't see any red hair colors in the thing either so I was annoyed. I had already been at this for about 3 hours or so, and I was really tired, really hungry, and a little bit sore so was trying not to get too dispairing and also being up pretty late and the wife at least had work in the morning so I was a little self consious about this as well. But wasn't too happy. But then it didn't make sense because I could've sworn I saw red headed options in the CC when I was looking at videos for it so what...they didn't give the Inquisitor the same options? On impulse I went to check on if it was in the Rooks options and then I went too far, instinctually hit X, and wiped out all of our hard work on it. So round 2 of creating Oliver and got through it, messed with the Inquisitor, hit play got through the bar...the game crashed. It was here though after watching the Important Goose do her CC and the wife noticed something on my computer...it hit us. The color blind setting theems to have leached a lot of the colors out of it to 'compensate' So yeah, don't know if I am more the issue here or if BioWare is but once we realized that we turned it off and the colors instantly started popping again. Last thing I discovered in this chain of incidents is started the game up again and you can import your Rook at any point though to start, had to recreate the Inquisitor...I guess. But that was fine with me since I just sort of through things together. Two different notes on the combat. First so far at first having a lot of trouble with timing things, both parries and dodges was basically trying to time it with the attacks and it wasn't working out too well and I was getting hit...a lot. Even with me having a fairly generous amount of time to actually do these things and it got confusing. And given the build I am thinking of going for will need heavy defense and what not at the least so I guess I need to get used to parries and it does throw me off since I can't just hold it down. Second, the bow combat. Now at the risk of gaslighting myself or something I remember having a conversation with LukeBarrett in the past in the wishlist thread about it would be nice if bows would snap to your target at the beginning to help with console gaming because in previous ARPGs you could waste a lot of time aiming. Well I had hopes based on what I had seen of it but I wasn't entirely convinced either but yes, after looking into it and trying it...the bow does indeed snap for a second, both on aimed attacks and firing from the hip. It is still easy to wrench it off target and because of other ARPGs I was trying to hit L2 and R2 at the same time, but so far I am quite thrilled by it, though in general problem number two I am having with this is that the control scheme of this game is very different then previous games so its taking me a minute to get on it and lots of flailing around... The one where we confront the Dread Wolf The bar scene and the first cutscene with Rook might be one of the strongest opening cutscenes introducing a BioWare protagonist ever. Like I really like the Breach scene...because of the Breach...and think the Hawke one might also serve a lot of the same purposes. But I am quite enraptured because this is where you introduce your character, and also the themes that they said they are going for and mirroring maybe. But I was quite enraptured with the whole scene and sequence of events, Rook starts beating up bar, Rook gets knocked down, Rook gets the upper hand through stubbourness and adaptaibility. Reminds me of what Varric says about him later... And ontot he combat while I spent a lot of time already talking about it, and while its all true, the combat did start to click with me a LOT more after I confronted the first boss, the Pride Demon of the game and then afterwards, started hitting the right buttons. Started to use the dodge and got a perfect dodge with the brief dissapearing effect, had at least one intentional perfect defense moment. And with some understanding its starting to feel a lot cooler and building that up, but then looking at that long and complicated skill tree I realize I am barely scratching the surface. I do hope I can go to and start getting this combinations done for skills because there are some neat ones. And the confrontation with Solas at the end. I love it. A lot of good happened to it in the Fade and out of the Fade. Depending on how mocking I want to be, I saw this scene before of course during the previe event and..."Marvel Diaglogue" Sorry the dialogue here pureley slaps and is just on utter fire. Love it. I hate it up. Good dialogue choices. But then some of that other stuff I have talked about. First off to like I don't know what it is but I just can't help defending Solas. The wife really was not happy that Solas stabbed Varric and here I am 'well Varric did go for the dagger'...but then the other thing I loved about the scene is that Solas also didn't have to continue with the ritual in the first place. Like the ritual was basically screwed at that point and he decided to just continue on with it, which is also really in character because whatever he did in the past caused him to have such regret that he is SO desperate to fix it. AND it also really relates to whatever Rook is doing because again though Rook was on the ground, in the bar, his plan was going at least a little pear shaped...and he decided to push and be stubbourn and adaptable to. It has potential for some really good gooey greatness.

More Ivy Rook adventures in Northern Thedas. We recruited Lucanis and then I tried to empty my journal of smaller quests and companion's quest and things just seems to add up. Ivy mostly found misery...this is a Dragon Age alright. Lots of talking about cooking too. Bellara/Lucanis banter has a lots of that and then I had a Bellara scene with Neve talking about food too. Just don't let Harding cook potatoes it seems. Speaking of Harding, I decided to romance her and I like how the romance options integrate into the companion's quest. But Neve and Bellara are my favorite right now. I'm getting way too many ideas for future characters while playing. I explored the Crossroad and Arlathan quite a bit and then moved to Treviso, but called it a day. Also 14 hours in 1.5 days....yeah. And that's with all the GPU resetting itself (aka freezing, I never lost progression at least, game autosave a lot), but way more stable now that I disabled hair strand (doesn't look that good thought ) . Some screenshot, lots of pretty and weird stuff in this game. I'm pretty sure this thing can swallow a big boat...the skeleton, not the living whale, is that even a whale? Ancient Elves sure loved their statues and Arlathan is just full of weird stuff and even weirder stuff, I killed a pack of this... And of course the most dangerous artifact of them all! And we need to talk about the devs/Rooks love of heights

Not reading the thread yet in case others have done stuff I haven't. Spoilers, obviously, from Act I.
Went to D'meta's Crossing and found nothing but trouble
Went to Treviso to find the Demon of Vyrantium aka Lucanis and found a whole nest of Crows instead.
His recruitment mission was pretty good, and ol' Zara seems like she wants to be another Ghil'an'nain, using one of her old labs to experiment just like she did. Not surprised to find this in its current state:
In any case, contract complete.
In viewing Lucanis and Kindl (Rook) side by side, I decided she needed to be a bit shorter so used the magic mirror for that. Overall something seems off with everyone's body proportions, like nobody's torso is long enough so everyone looks short.
Back to the Lighthouse and Harding wanted to try out some spells so headed to the Crossroads to find the way back to Arlathan Forest. Found the second Solas memory along the way when a new path opened up. Still can't get over Solas with hair. Morrigan dropping in out of the blue was weird too
After helping Harding I plan to head back to Treviso and see what help the Crows need. Gotta be nice to the potential bf's family.
