colfoleyPick the reddest looking color and then increase brightness bar on it until it's the red you want. Play with the saturation bar as well. Settings has an auto target that gets you 98% of the way there

Guys, I think I missed where to customize inky... I thought this would come up later somehow but apprently it's right at the start when you do Rook? HOW did I miss this?! Does anybody know what the default world state is? I'm NOT starting over! Took me forever to get Rook to look good. I don't really care about my inky and don't even remember what she looked like after 10 years and none of my screenshots survived my PC upgrade. So that part I don't care about. But I wanted to set the 3 choices to what I had. This blows. How is there no warning that you missed the other character customization? Just arrived at the Lighthouse. I guess I'll just see what happens when you forget to set a world state. I assume there is no way to do it later? Or can I do it with the mirror? I haven't used it yet. Gonna check... The game doesn't feel like a Bioware game anymore, feels like another studio made a kid version of Dragon Age as an action adventure. I'm basically Link smashing urns for glowing things and looking for shiny gold nuggets in dark corners. Yikes. MEA while also being a shit Mass Effect game still had the familiar Bioware flair, just a shittier version of it. But this is something else entirely wearing Dragon Age's knock-off skin. Dialogue is just short sentences in between running around. Just sound bites for children so that they don't get overwhelmed. Everything glows, so you don't get lost. I even turned off stuff glowing from miles away but it doesn't help much. Granted, kinda feels like the equally shit prologue of ME3, but eh. I still don't really understand how and why they recruited Rook and how long he's known these people. It all feels so disjointed and rushed. The pacing is just awful but I expected as much. I have zero feel for Rook. This is just a faceless avatar with a short written background thrown at you. In any case,I'll try to play my Rook as a mix of sarcastic/playful and gruff. My headcanon is that he is ususally easy-going but has a temper and is easily frustrated. So sometimes he's grouchy but when he's relaxed he's a bit of a charmer. He's mostly serious though when the situation is dangerous and focused on getting out of there. Let's see how much I'm able to roleplay here, my expectations are low. I still plan on romancing Neve. A few screenshots of the prologue: Must be the shortes character introduction in history this bar scene... I'm actually glad that Rook scowls a lot and looks super serious at all times during the prologue. The best thing about the game is the environments I guess. The lighting is very good, I have everything maxed out on ultra, but had to resort to DLLS + frame generation to get 80-100fps at 5K even with a 4090. Water looks really nice. I just wish the faces didn't look so distractingly Disney. The Lord Of Fortune casual wear looks like gay Aladdin to me, not at all what I'd imagine a pirate to look like. Almost put me off picking this faction. Rook be like: I'm a Bollywood reject but you know you love me! Since I cannot take this game seriously anyway, I might as well surrender and embrace the ridiculous look of this game. I hope I'm not too late to be of help. You don't have to worry about recreating your Rook. The game automatically saves their appearance and asks if you want to import an existing appearance. I know this because I, too, overlooked the Inquisitor/World State Customization option. I'm playing on PS5, but I assume this will be mostly true for everyone: It is found on the final page, where you can edit Rook's first name, review, and finalize everything. On the right side of the screen, there stood a female elf Inquisitor and a reference to world state options. I had to read the onscreen explanation and press a goofy button to bring up the customization. The world state is easy. The options are clear cut, and there are only three variables. (I did note that Divine Victoria -- that's Cassandra, IIRC? -- was a default assumption. That works for me, since I always promoted her.) As for recreating your Inquisitor, meh. I found it impossible for my female elf. Maybe it will be better in the future for my male human and elf. I just made someone passable and moved on with it. If you've only just arrived at the Lighthouse, I'd recommend restarting. Your experience playing the intro already will make it a breeze the second time. I restarted after gaining the option to choose destinations in the wider world, and I'm glad I restarted. It was a breeze getting back to the same point on my second run. They really should've made the "Inquisitor/World State" unmissable. It's an "opt-in" feature, but should've been an "opt-out". "Don't want to do this? Press XYZ to skip." It felt sort of hidden, even if it was hidden in plain view. Some of us are juggling pets, kids, noisy spouses, or the like while doing this stuff. It's easy to miss things tucked into the corner of pages, particularly when I expected it to get its own step/tab.

I do like how the prologue quest boils down to either we've guessed and timed this right, or it's just suicide. I knew that going in, sure, but it's nice that the characters accept it too.

Things feel like they're just happening with little connection. Trying to remember if Mass Effect 2 was like this. Spend 50-60% of the game collecting people and then finally deal with the problem while getting world tidbits along the way.

I found the world map Going to do Neve's back to the city quest next (tomorrow) and then go back to Treviso for another Crow quest. How long before the rest of the companions become available? Do they all show up in Act 1 or ?? I had to change the difficulty to Story (no dying) for a fight in the Crossroads. I still got down to no health and stayed there for the last quarter of the fight, but at least I finally got it. It would probably go better with a mage to help but I had Lucanis and Harding - 3 rogues is a bad choice against uber-powered revenants. Especially the kind that heal themselves during the fight, an "assassin's nightmare," as Lucanis called it.

But it made sense, because the only relationship most of the squadmates had to Shepard's mission was that TIM thought they could help. Some adventures are like that. It's not like anyone in Farscape was invested in getting Crichton back to Earth. (Pick any other character for any other goal and you get the same result.)

Apparently I stumbled in a fight waaaaaaay over my head. Boss was 10 levels higher. I won, but it took a while.
After that I promptly respecced to get the skill that gives you a free potion. I also use the Bee belt.

Got lost In the crossroads and stumbled onto a surprising hairstyle! Unraveled some memories and beat back some undeads that was way to high level for me. Still the axe of my warden rang through and sliced through the every last skeleton. Really digging the combat, playing on underdog and It feels good. Can't wait to try mage, but have to stick to one playthrough at a time or else I get lost.

I know this because I, too, overlooked the Inquisitor/World State Customization option. Ohhhh. This is good news! I have completed Bellara's recruitment already. But I guess I'll go back and set the game to story mode. Combat is boring anyway so far. Thanks a lot for this info, I had no idea Rook's appearance gets saved! Now I remember I did see a female character next to Rook at the end of CC and I somehow thought that was a default Rook again and I got the option again to start over. *bangs head* I tend to overlook really obvious stuff on crowded screens. I thought inky would be something that automatically comes after creating Rook, like a new screen, and would be impossible to miss. Ugh.

Yesterday I didn't play! Was working in the office and was a looong day, so when I got home I watched TV (well, stuff on streaming!) after dinner as my brain was so tired I knew I wouldn't be able to give it my full attention and care.
But today I'm going to play so much of it - hours! I've had my coffee, and I'm jumping back in soon. Gonna get to know Bellara more, explore (well, soon, I've heard it's less linear a bit after where I am) and maybe find some more companions and gear! And the Codexy stuff. Gimme lore!
EDIT: On Kappa and Zero's convo here, I too almost missed the Inquisitor before finishing - I expected it to be a next screen but then just before commiting, I saw that I had to press triangle to create my Inquisitor, phew!

It all feels so disjointed and rushed. The pacing is just awful but I expected as much. I have zero feel for Rook. This is just a faceless avatar with a short written background thrown at you. Hmmm... I didn't even consider most of the backgrounds since I didn't want to play as a member of a faction I have no experience of. But the Grey Warden's background makes him look like a reasonable choice for the organization; leadership ability, combat ability, and the willingness to disobey orders when it's the right thing to do. I take it the others don't? I'm happy enough with a game that doesn't tell me who my PC was. Yeah why a LoF Rook is there is the flimsiest of explanations. A Shadow Dragon elf would perhaps be the best choice for a background that fits right in. But then I went with something completely different after I saw how the human face was shaping up. I thought playing Rook as somebody who just stumbled into the mess could be cool, outside perspective, so at least it makes sense when everyone explains everything to him like he's five. But how Rook is the one everyone has decided is going to save the day based on a bar brawl and some skill with destroying doomsday devices is jarring. I mean, he's a damn treasure hunter and thief with no allegiance to anything besides money you'd think and he's not even getting paid. Oh well, my own fault I picked that faction. Gonna stick with it though. My Rook is a whole vibe now and I'll see where it takes me.

I decided to take a break from main/companions quests and do the Crows quest and also explore Treviso a bit. I stumbled upon an enemy (not part of the Crows quest) and then spent 30-40 minutes dying to this motherfucker, only to realize that he's lvl25 I'll get back to you later, big guy. Also, i like banter between Lucanis and Bellara so far.

Ok, I started over, re-imported my Rook and finally got to customize my inky. Default seems to be female elf. So I almost decided not to start over after all. But I wanted the romanced but hunt him down combination. So now I'll rush through the early parts as fast as possible. I hope that's not more than 2h if I skip all dialogue. I have ZERO recollection of my Lavellan, not even hair color. Don't know what vallaslin I gave her. Nothing aside from that she was pale. I went through 25 pages of the old inky pictures thread but couldn't find any contribution of mine. So she's truly lost to time and a shit memory. Oh well. So here's just a random quickly created bit tired and gray looking Lavellan: Tried to make her nose bridge as elfy as possible to be reminiscent of DA2.

OK, took exactly 1 hour to get back to the blighted village. I hope I collected all loot again. So that was fast enough to not be completely annoying. I hope the game saved my iky! DAI glitched or something and default Hawke showed up, that kinda sucked... Here are a couple of funny Lighthouse screenshots, plus one from the village: Khaz is all "Oh hello there, pretty lady" My boy is already flirting and it was thankfully extremely subtle. This screenshot is hilarious. she's realy small! Like, REALLY small! I like how Khaz walks around looking very displeased with everything. Big mistake agreeing to help, now look at this mess! I already kind of vibe with Rook more than inky now that I have embraced the absurdity of it all, so there's that silver lining, I guess.
Will finally progress this goddamn awful game after lunch.

I had a long play session yesterday but I don't feel like I'm progressing fast. I have 16h00 of play (2 - 3h in the CC) and I still have 3 companions to recruit. I take my time, I explore, I listen to the conversations of the NPCs and I read the codex, which is well written and provides a lot of complementary information. I start to develop the personality of my Rook. Valerian, in addition to being diplomatic, empathetic, gentle, does not hesitate to use the red options when he needs things to move forward or to strongly express his emotions and opinions. He will probably make a joke or two when he is more comfortable with his companions. For the moment, my favorite is Lucanis and I love flirting with him. The girls are also really cool and I love seeing them bond with each other - special point for a Neve / Bellara scene. And for once, I'm not taking my LI everywhere with me since I only have two spots on my team. On the other hand, in terms of gameplay and combat, I'm really clumsy and Valerian often ends up in chasms and water more than he should . Oh, I'm really disgusted because I came across a super tough enemy in Treviso, 15 levels higher. I died 2 - 3 times before understanding but on my last attempt, I managed -1 HP for the whole fight, remaining, no healing, no more resurrection - and .... I tripped over myself ... There was, what, 10% of his health bar left. Yeah, I'm really clumsy . Otherwise the game is super stable and I had only one bug, I lost my hair in the inventory but since I died, I reloaded so, barely bothered (pc).
So Valerian has finished his mission with Bellara and the Veil Jumpers, made an important first choice - I appreciated being able to explain my choice - and meet an old acquaintance. Valerian decided to spare the mayor because they are not murderers. Morrigan, I don't have any opinions about her cameo at the moment, other than the fact that her stone tiara is hanging in the air and it's ridiculous and it's really nice to see her again. Afterwards, I really enjoyed the little chat with Varric and decorating my room in a way to explore Rook's character a bit more. I also like the meetings where we chat about our options and what we're going to do. Teamwork is this the way ! By the way, I saw Solas again, Harding got a surprise and we got a new toy. Valerian was really impressed by the Crossroads, we wandered around a bit, not too lost, except in the past and we ended up recruiting Lucanis. The recruitment mission was cool and Valerian, and myself, were immediately seduced by this charming Crow. Neve, with her "short kings", went to Minrathous. I must admit that I was not super impressed by the setting but I enjoyed discovering Neve in her environment. I was also a little tired while doing the quest and so I wasn't really in the moment. Valerian was not happy with the end of the mission. Tevinter, always sucks. Valerian accompanied Lucanis to Treviso, still with Neve. I loved seeing these two characters get to know each other and Neve managed to surprise Lucanis, it was hilarious. Before doing a mission for the Crows, Valerian and Lucanis had some free time and there was a bit of flirting, it was great . Lucanis really cares about people and I loved the " disgusted noise" of the latter because Valerian prefers tea . Still, the outing to Treviso was expensive. Lucanis got a new outfit and a gift for the lighthouse. I much preferred Treviso, which I find very pretty, to Minrathous. I find the balance between game level / real place is better and I like the atmosphere. And we finished with an exploration of Arlathan with Harding & Bellara. Personal quests, some puzzles & ruins (the owls!) and we helped a spirit. I really liked the area, beautiful, different landscapes and they really made the old and unpredictable aspect of the area. Valerian also used a new armor but he doesn't like the boots. Freedoms for the feet . The quest with Harding was relaxed and a nice bonding time. She appreciated that I told her her magic was weird instead and I suggested she use happy memories.
Bellara, I really enjoyed that the game took into account Valerian's faction and it was bonding time between two coworkers. A couple of friendly flirtations, just I liked the options and Valerian really likes Bellara, two magical nerds. The end of the quest took me by surprise and I was really touched by Bellara. Oh I also bought a gift for Bellara. For my game session today: - back to Minrathous - and this time, wide awake, for the 2nd main quest with Neve & Lucanis. - I hope to recruit a new companion, especially Emmrich. - return to Treviso with Lucanis for personal business. - and then we'll see about the rest.

I see they gave Sumalee Montano to voice a Qunari NPC too. Always thought she was great as a Qunari Inquisitor.

I see they gave Sumalee Montano to voice a Qunari NPC too. Always thought she was great as a Qunari Inquisitor. She was, I always use her voice for the female Inqy...and usually make a Qunari. But there is a lot of returning voices in this game, especially with the smaller NPCs. The only constant things in the DA series: the voice actors set for NPCs.

More thoughts from the beginning. So I rewatched the scene with Solas and Rook chatting with one another and well Solas had a rather familiar sounding...uh...guitar rift going off in the background that seemed to sound at least familiar to Rook's theme. But this is when Solas was speaking...now music is not always perfect in its execution and sometimes wires get crossed but implications were certainly interesting.
But then I did get a chance to listen to the sound track and the Dread Wolf theme seemed to confirm it. Which does share some interesting possibilities so far, music is one of the ways to mirror characters and they did say that there was going to be mirroring between the two of them so nice to see that this is coming. Combat continues to grow on me little by little. There is certainly a lot you can do with the system and think I am having a lot more fun with it in Inquisition. Of course not sure how much it relates to a lot of the other ARPGs I have played, but I certainly do appreciate how it has fixed Inquisition's problems. Moving freely between ranged and melee. Then the combos. I don't exactly know how much of this is deliberate but so far a lot of them seem to flow naturally into one another, I am starting to get more of a feel of it and develop strategies. With the 'twin fangs' set up I discovered that we can go up with a charged light attack where Rook kind of slashes up off the ground but then if you press triangle it has the same effect as the Twin Fangs type ability. The music continues to grow on me, speaking of the music. Not sure it will ever neccessarily be better then Inquisition but I actually appreciate how it seems to run pretty much all the time and is a bit subdued over Inquisition. Course it does not always seem to match the action that is going on but it does slap at times. Listened to the sound track and it does seem like it works. Also liking the UI and...combat effects. Honestly weirdly enough the trailers didn't seem to do a good of a job in actually portraying how this game actually looks in its moment to moment affairts. Didn't really mind the AOE combo detonation even and most of the UI just fades into the background until you need it, mind you still need to get used to the companion abilities. The one where we go to ArlathanSo surprise surprise, bit of a theme here but actually its quite amusing to me how many of the common complaints against this game is just being taken down one after another so early.
But you can be mean and direct to your companions.
And yes I met Bellara. She does seem quite delightful so far.
And we went to the Ruins and met the Nadas Dirthalen so far.
And Darkspawn are a bit on the creepy side in this. Sure they look...weirdly off...but what they are doing is kind of yikes, more on that in a minute. The One where we go to the Shadow VillageBit more like it. And this part of the story, it can be dark, you can do some fairly messed up things.
The transition from Non Blight to Blight in D'Meta's crossing is one of the best moments in the game so far and got a hearty 'whoa' from me. The village does start off fairly creepy but they do a fairly good job establishing it as a mystery. Sure we 'know' what its likely going to happen they still do a fairly good job on the reveal. The camera work here is really excellent as it focuses on Rook as he vaults over the fence so you can't see it but then the camera spins around...nothing but blight. So far its not giving me the same squick factor as the Red Lyrium did in Inquisition but there was a couple of minutes here and there, I felt really icked out when we had to go in the middle of a tight space surrounded by Blight...and of course the villagers were brainwashed.
Meeting the Mayor and the Ghil Dragon, that has some implications, but the Mayor choice is the first 'evil' choice of the game. A bit more of a clear distinction on good/ evil then I can say. IE there is a pretty clear moral distinction that the game sets up for the player and its not really the most practical. Though I do wonder if there will be consequences to leaving him there. Also a bit of an echo to Sahrnia.
Big reveal though back with the Veil Jumpers we met Morrigan and the NEXT bit...I thought everyone told me this game acted like all the other games didn't happen and that all these characters had amnesia. Yet here Morrigan and Harding is making constant references to Inquisition...weird. Continuity. Surprise, this is a sequel. I got a good lol out of me when Morrigan admitted to knowing that Solas was Fen'Harel and why that would've vexe dhim when she tried to explain ancient Elven knowledge to him...course side bar if she has merged with Mythal she is playing it awfully coy.
The One where we track down the MacGuffinThis quest had the biggest plot twist of the game so far and starting to get more into the teritory where I don't know preciesely will happen is nice.
But we go back to the Ritual Site to hunt down the Lyrium Dagger and discover it has been taken by a 'Lyrium Ghoul.'
After defeating it Harding goes to grab it...and it has a rather wild reaction to her. It seems to be what activates her Titan abilities and then the cutscene here is just plain wild as she rises up in the stone, eyes glowing, talking about 'Isantanol' and everything else.
This does beg the questions was...did the dagger activate her powers or did something else do so and then the dagger just...prompted it? Why didn't it react to Varric when Varric was stabbed?
Then the really chilling bit...this game seems to have story narration by Varric here and there detailing events and what not, but in this case he relayed the story of what was happening with Harding and how good it was...as the camera panned down through some very red looking lyrium veins deep into the earth, with a hand rising up out of lava like its in pain. The one where we go into the CrossroadsThe game might be slowly opening up, there is a bit of a nice drip feed on pacing here. Honestly think there has not been that hook yet that has purely invested me in like in DAI, but then this game is also off to a stronger start then DAI for the most part.
But Bellara fiddles with the Eluvian and we had off into the crossroads and meet the Caretaker. It was weird though seems we have access to his shop even before meeting him.
But we get our next big introduction and I feel it might be the time to get some side quests. We get intel from Neve, she is the one who seems to be giving us at least our initial leads, to go to Treviso or Docktown.
I was hella surprised to see the Venatori in the Crossroads and they were already talking about the gods and what not. Gonna be curious when we see what that is all about. Hmm maybe should've gone to Docktown first.
Also stumbled across Solas's memory, it says its a story mission but it also seemed like it could've been missed and nothing prompted me, I just wandered in it. Do worry about the others.
The Darkspawn are now back to being a threat, first time really since Origins or well the Descent I guess that they have felt...this potent and omni present. I am not fully feeling the blight pustule creatures yet but A. there is a lot of them and B. they are a bit tanky...but not TOO unmanegable really. Thing is kind of tempting to actually turn up the difficulty but on the other hand enemies do seem pretty tanky so far...probably not figuring things out yet but I think to at least maintain the fun factor might need to keep it down because again enemies seem to be a bit on the tanky side. Though I do have a hard time getting close to Darkspawn.
The memory itself was interesting. Solas leaves behind an Elven agent who was blighted by Ghil and then...well it basically does confirm my theory about the Evanuris weaponizing the Blight. Not that hard to picture and Solas also basically said the same thing in our Fade chat as well.
Sorry bit all over the place right now and I talked with Solas again. Bit of a small instance but interesting to see Solas remembering how we interacted him in the first instance and made referene to it, does make me wonder where that little update to the BioWare mechanics will go.
But yes, seems Ghil was pretty responsible for creating a lot of the Darkspawn at first and was experimenting on it. Seems that might have been what even led to her elevation in the first place. I did have a bit of a feeling on both issues. The implication is though there could be a lot worse coming if the Evanuris gain full control of the Blight again either in the real world or in the Black City...
Which then Solas referenced trapping the Evanuris in the Black City with the Blight that the Magisters freed...question is why did it then go to the Deep Roads? Seems kind of interesting.

Yeah why a LoF Rook is there is the flimsiest of explanations. A Shadow Dragon elf would perhaps be the best choice for a background that fits right in
Not sure if it's the case with other factions, but with Shadow Dragon apparently Rook has been working with Varric for about a year already.
only to realize that he's lvl25
I....have not noticed any indication of level on enemies? Where do you see it?
