Damn those are some nice photos. Solas Ritual Site looking like a disco though lol
----
I've been using fast travel in this playthrough a lot less than my first one. I've already caught a few conversations that I missed on my first playthrough in the crossroads (including a very relevant one via the dagger in the first area that I feel particularly silly about), and banter conversations trigger pretty reliably in between locations. It's more natural than the eavesdrop one all the time. I prefer it this way, even if it adds some travel time.

Yeah I love that you can trigger banters in the Lighthouse but mixing the in-world ones let me get more banter conversations than I would have normally had if I had only relied on the Lighthouse, especially since companions can't trigger Lighthouse banter if they have a conversation or quest pending, which happens a lot in Act 2. Also, some get locked out if you progress too far.

I like the Lighthouse conversations even more now if that is the case, I thought they were banter unique to the lighthouse but it is actually an interesting way for Bio to let you have your cake and eat it to.

Hrungr, your out of bounds photos are always a joy. The devs' hard work on the environments is only truly apparent to me when you start sharing these. It makes me wonder if they're ever frustrated by how gameplay cameras make it so difficult to fully take in their work? melbella, those Shadow Dragon pajamas are the worst. I feel attacked that the Inquistor is back in pajamas, 10 years later. 🤦🏻♂️😄 Lebanese Dude, we are two of a kind. I love builds, mechanics, optimization, etc... This game is full of such goodies. I, too, will probably play every specialization, eventually. Also, I'm going to play an Elf Veil Ranger next, though Saboteur is super appealing. I think my Saboteur will be my Lord of Fortune, with species being potentially anything. AlleluiaElizabeth, regarding Solas... I had similar feelings about him and his redemption arc. Ultimately, it kind of felt like I was offering him redemption less because he deserved it, and more because the world was safer if he was redeemed. I didn't believe that he'd be truly and permanently neutralized unless he chose to be.
These first elves, the Evanuris and Solas, created bodies for themselves, but remained very much spirits. They didn't evolve and grow; rather they essentially continued embodying concepts. That did make me feel sorry for him, to a degree. For all his intellect, Solas seemed incapable of stepping back and making the wise choice. Only at the end, with everyone he's ever respected (but not gotten around to betraying and killing) in his face begging him to stop, was he able to change course.
I saved in the middle of Act 3, tonight. My Warden Champion is less forgiving of Solas than my first Rook was. My Trevelyan Inquisitor was Solas' friend. I'm not sure how it will end, which is fun. I have only the very end of the game left to play in my second playthrough. The Warden Champion has been incredible. I'll need to play another Spellblade in the future with the benefit of system mastery. As it is, though, the Champion was positively invincible on Nightmare. He can't be attacked, since he can parry anything and everything. When he does parry, he heals 5% health, ignites his weapons, explodes in a fiery AoE, and Staggers his enemies. He routinely backhands even big foes right off the screen, ending some encounters in the opening seconds. His parrying piles "Advantages" onto himself and his allies, which in turn adds a ton of both offensive damage and defensive boosts. It's nuts. I can imagine how Rogue is going to be. I've so far played both a "controller" and a "defender" type of Rook, and both did excellent damage in different ways. The Rogue is the class focused on damage, so I'm expecting it to be nuts. I'd earlier suggested that I might start playing on Custom difficulty, but I've rethought that. I don't think Custom (with Adventurer enemy health) would be able to at all challenge a high-DPS character. I'll stick with Nightmare.

My current Rook has invulnerability during the Thousand Cuts ability so I pretty much use it to cheese mechanics I don't wanna deal with.

I've been wondering how many players aren't enchanting their gear, let alone their skills. I hope that Ice-Quinn's post brings enlightenment to at least a few more players. The enchantments have a huge impact on Rook's capabilities. 😄

In fairness, the fact that they can be enchanted isn't exactly telegraphed to the player, though, right?
The equipment appears in the equipped tab, and then you can view all of the enchantable items by type. You'd have to actually look through the tabs to see the ability one.

I like redemption arcs, too, I just felt he didn't actually arc in this. It’s more like a redemption slingshot. He's going along being the worst till you take the one last leap of faith and try yet again to talk to him and, after three other people also trying, it finally works.
The actual scene and the outcome I like well enough. I like Solas being able to lay down his burdens, etc. My Rook would too if she could see the future and know that's what the outcome would be. Mourn Watch is especially suited to it, I think.
I just have a hard time coming up with a reason why Rook viably thinks he can be reasoned with, at that point. Every bit of evidence shows he can't, and all previous efforts didn't work. If he presented me with some hint he could be trusted and reasoned with since the jail, I can't see it. It'd be a pure leap of faith, as presented. About Solas’s redemption: Before the final fight, Emmrich says that he thinks Solas can be reasoned with, and Emmrich is the spirit expert of the team. Not a guarantee, but a reason to think it might work. One thing that Rook had that was missing from the previous attempts is Mythal. Solas needed her release to move on from the past, especially as he had absorbed her essence (or part of it) to bring down the veil.

I start to see why my 2nd playthrough is so slow. I guess I've been enjoying exploring too much and ignoring the fact that there are two gods running around. Well at least the Caretaker workshop is now at level 7 and I have not finished act 1 yet.

I noticed it pretty much immediately, but this sort of stuff appeals to me. I love customization and optimization. The ability icon also jumps of the screen, amidst the more familiar equipment icons, at least in my opinion. 🤷🏻♂️ I have a feeling that most players aren't too diligent about enchanting their gear, and probably haven't even noticed that they can enhance their preferred skills. The boosts are significant. I suspect that Nightmare would feel a bit grindy without them.

I wonder how many players play the game staring at the ground 90% of the time? I even have to remind myself to look "up" every once in a while. There were toying with the idea of having griffon mounts in the game early on. We also had concept art with flying aravels. They handle verticality fairly well, it would have been fun to explore that idea. It would have changed the game considerably though.

The Black City - Let's gooo! The Black City - Let's gooo! .... When could we see that? XD That the snowy section of the Crossroads? .... When could we see that? XD This was your view after killing the big boss dragon in the Crossroads. Welp I guess I gotta go back there at some point tommorow. *** So the beginning of the end of this playthrough ends not with a bang but with a whimper. For my first playthrough of this game I did want to do its two big set pieces in one sitting more or less, though I guess the Blood of Arlathan could also count as another big set piece in its own right, and given other things I have effectively decided to just wrap things up because...well I have wrapped up a lot of the content. Some nerves going into it. Somehow even though I got all the factions to level 3 I didn't get the momentos to fully upgrade the caretakers shop so that's...fun. Though I did completly max out the SDs vendor so it will help with my SD helm that I have as well. On the VG front each one of my companions is up to their Hero status but some nerves honestly going in because well I just do not know *for sure* what will cause things to happen or not happen. Also missing exactly one Evanuris statue and one Dread Wolf Statue...somehow. This does chagrin me greatly but then much like with Inquisition it just feels like I was running out of things to use them on towards the last few levels or so. But yeah...bit chagrinned going to miss out on a few trophies. And on that note just again the ever present feeling that I somehow did rush through the game, didn't fully smell the roses, I know so much more about this game...obviously...going into it. Think that is the main source. Though Lebanese Dude was right now that I paid attention to it Harding and Lucanis had party banter when I was going back and forth in Minrathous...and picked it right up when I got back to the Lighthouse like almost verbatum. Its neat. Also I never really bothered to do a lot of the exploration elements of the game either like hunting down chests. This probably left me in the odd position of having missed out on a lot of gear and upgrades, like my awesome Defiant Mask I have and the other bit I have for the tincture kit never got even one upgrade either so...gulp. But in a weird way despite not 100%ing it as far as the game is concerned think this is the first DA game I have ever 100 percented. I literally do not have any quests waiting for me right now its an odd plafce to be in because I very much believe in not doing this that way. I try and intentionally leave stuff *not* done because I don't exactly believe a character would do everything...and yet here we are. It just feels so bizarre lol. Though I do know there are a few 'unmarked' quests which I couldn't also want to do because couldn't be arsed. Lot of this will be for future playthroughs. Again as I mentioned did get significantly spoiled for a few things and as always did wonder how much its effected my experience because I don't think it has per se but I can't know...and I have one more big one to get through to test that theory. So anyways did resolve that this PT is a bit *rushed* and that is for eighty hours. Future PTs will go on and read the codex, maybe try and explore more, experiment, find stuff. Some ways it will be more focussed to so who knows how much it will balance each other out. And some things I will look up on YT, some things I will experiencing for myself in future PTs because definitley think there will be future PTs of this game. And future...and future..and even more future. So plenty of time to learn from things on this PT and apply them to reading the codex and just going to visit the markets and buy the mementos as I can more aggresively. Maybe try out more appearances. Bit of a pre review summary is what this post turned out to be lol. The One where we cleared out the Crossroads So yes the aforementioned Blighted Dragon Boss fight or Revenant Dragon actually.
So this was something...special. Bog standard in a lot of ways but it was interesting/ dissapointing that the Mythal essence chose 'here' to be her last flight. Thought it was going to be in the ending but I guess there is some logical reason for it to be *here* though I still suspect something will maybe happen during the ending to but maybe she just won't take Dragon Form.
But anyways given I had air support from one of the Evanuris and since she was doing a number on mr. Revenant I thought it was going to be easy...and it didn't exactly turn eay as the Dragon hit like a freight truck, kept changing its damage types, and did the whole demon isolation trick to force me to fight it one on one.
Still got it first try though. The One where I have meeting 2. Went off to meet with the Inquisitor again and had a lot more to say.
As much as I love the music in this game any time I hear hints of Inquisition's sound track my heart just melts with the nostalgia.
This scene cut off a bit too early would've loved to continue the conversation about Rook's companions and what not and have Rook offer his take.
Still couple of worth while things to note. I kind of was fearing that a non romanced Inquistor would feel a bit out of place with Solas and what not, not having sufficient motivation, but they have really worked up the 'friend' angle. And she just wants her friend back.
Also made a very pointed reference about how they are driven by their regrets and how that leads them to making choices, my Rook picked up what she was putting down and well she has a point...especially how I roleplayed and headcannoned my Inquisitor. The tension between being given everything...but also loosing everything to. "I haven't been that person in a long time" Ugh almost have to watch that scene again.
But from there Rook comes up with a plan with his crew to assault the Gods. Do like that the game gives me a month here to organize things and what not so its a bit early given something else but Oliver has grown out his beard.
The One where we go back to where it started. Got back to the High Anderfells to check on the Griffons that were reunited with the Wardens but this got pretty funny.
Set up was odd here because it made it seem like they somehow knocked Rook out and got him in the dummy suit...but it was worth it to hear this cries of 'no no no no no no!'. Mr. American has actually grown on me. The One with the Pushups. That's...it?
From all the complaining on this scene I almost thought that we were going to get a lecture about things and Taash was going to force people to do pushups over misgendering all in an effort to prove how 'manly' they were, especially relevant with Bellara being there.
But instead Isabella made a really good point. While its not the most practical in the world and who cares how genuine an apology was, doing pushups to show someone made a mistake is actually a really good way to make ammends. 'Doing a Bharv.' I like the idea and despite the danger this scene was actually rather wholesome.
Though then it was also perhaps a little cringe at the end when Bellara 'ate the last cheese thing' then had to do pushups over it. I mean someone had to eat the last cheese thing...spoken as someone who has eaten many a last cheese thing in his life.
But yeah. With this in context chose the 'jokey' response. Which is actually not a bad segue because I forgot to mention this at the start of this very long post so...oops. But I have to say that I guess going into the end mission that there just isn't a single bad quest or scene in this game. At least beyond the 'tier 3' side quests and stuff, there is some bog standard fetch questy stuff towards the bottom of the barrel but all the companion content and story content, as I have referenced, has just felt universally good. Think the weakest quest in this regard had to have been 'blood bath'. But bit of a first because I have always had quests which have run the gamit in other BioWare games from being just 'good' to mediocre to bad. In Hushed Whispers. Here Lies the Abyss. The two main story quests in Act 3 of DA 2 come to mind most immedietly. But actually thinking on it Origins was pretty sold in this regard to, until now that game definitley had DAs best story...I guess only quest I didn't think was too great was Nature of the Beast for that one. But yes, going into the end this game felt....solidly great. And on that note while I kind of spoiled it myself already to you guys...Maker willing tommorow I finish the game. See you there.
