See title. It was brought up off hand in another thread, thought it made for interesting discussion point. My heart wants to say Inquisition, but my head says Planescape: Torment. Opinions from some fellow gamers?

Your favorite Favorite companion in a CRPG is Planescape: Torment? Favorite set of companions, yes, probably. Dak'kon alone is way up there for sure.

Well I agree about Planescape: Torment. But some other games that had great companions. KOTOR 1&2, Mass Effect Trilogy, Dragon Age series, New Vegas, and Baldur's Gate 2&3.

Although I like all of the squadmates in the trilogy I agree ME2 has the best ones. ME2 squadmates remind me so much of the companions from KOTOR 2. A ragtag of misfits and outcasts brought together with a common goal.

Does Disco Elysium count? Technically you can get a second companion if Kim gets shot! Anyway, the real answer is Dragon Age: Inquisition. Don't think there's another RPG where I love all of the companions.

This thread is what finally prompted me to gügle crpg to find out the c stands for 'computer.' I guess it could have stood for 'character,' but otherwise I probably should have been able to figure it out.
I haven't thought about it enough for a confident answer, but I'm comfortable saying Dragon Age Origins.

BG2 (not you Anomen!). They weren't as well fleshed out as in modern games, but imagine if they were! Although we did get a fleshed out version of Jaheria in BG3, who was wonderful, her younger self would have been great in a different manner.

So far I am really liking all of the Companions in Veilguard. It broke my heart when I had to choose between Treviso and Minrathous, but I think Lucanis is suited to being 'hardened' anyways and I have read that, story-wise, it kinda makes more sense to save Minrathous over Treviso...so that's what I did on my first PT. Maybe next time I will do diferently if only to see what the results are. But wow...the deeper I get intot his game, the more I like it and I liked it a lot right from the start. I thought I would be creeped out by Emmerich, but I actually quite like him.
I have a full party and there isn't one companion character that I don't like. In ME 2, it was easy...Jacob. Jacob was the worst, and he was kinda useless. And even with Inquisition there were characters that I was impartial and indifferent to, such as Blackwall. I didn't not like him, he was okay...But there were other characters I liked more like Iron Bull or Sera or Cassandra. Even Vivienne. But thus far in this game...I really like all the characters. From what I have heard and seen, I think they are some of Bioware's best characters....On par with Cassandra (DAII to DAI, especially DAI), Josephine, Cullen, Isabela, even Solas, or Miranda, Tali, Jack. Jack is still my favourite BIOWARE character of any franchise, but these characters in Veilguard are closing that gap.

I passed the part you briefly mentioned above so it was no big spoiler for me. But for those who want to go completely blind into the game it might be a spoiler for them. I haven't met all of the companions in Veilguard I still have two more to recruit. But I've liked almost every companion in the Dragon Age series I can't think of one I didn't like. Oh and about Jacob maybe it's because I never romanced him but for my Shepard he was a bro. I always read much of the hate he gets is from those who romanced him in the second game.

You're right....I'm sorry I didn't think about that. The part I briefly mentioned has been in the News quite a bit lately and it was the first bit covered so I thought that by now most people would have seen it enough that it wasn't really considered a 'spoiler' anymore. But you're right. I apologize and I will be more careful in the future. But further about Jacon in ME 2.....Even if I try to romance him with a FemShep, he always shuts me down. I've never gotten anything out of him except "can we talk later, Shepard?" Or something like that. Unlike other characters who the more you go to them they open up. With Jacob I never got anywhere. In fact, the most he ever talked to me even when I didn't romance him was in ME 3 when you meet him outside of Huerta Memorial and he talks about Brynne. Not once have I ever had a successful romantic relationship witj Jacob as FemShep, so I've always just completely forgotten about him except for his Loyalty Mission with his Dad and even after that it's like "okay, we can go back to ignoring each other and pretending we dn't exist". My affections have gone to others like Kaiden or Liara.

When I did play as femShep I romanced Garrus because most in this forum say he's a great romance.

While Dragon Age Origins is my favorite Bioware title, I have to say that Inquisition's group of advisors and companions have been my favorite. I haven't played Veilguard yet, so I don't know where Rook's team will fall, but, barring Sera (whom I choose not to recruit for my canon), I feel like Inquisition has had the strongest group overall.

Any dog or wolf companion in any game ever (all good bo's and gals) Rose of Sharon Cassidy in FONV and of course John Cassidy in FO2. That's a weird one and only sorta belongs here, but another GOAT for me is Diablo 2, and I'm always compelled to have an ice arrow rogue merc named Olena It's going to be DA2 for me, I keep coming back to playing this game the same way I always do, just to visit some old friends. Ironically, it's also the only installment where I'm habitually basically ignoring not one but two full companions (Fenris and Sebastian) THAT'S how good the other ones are

Too broody and anime? Yeah... That's really it. Most of all how at least in the beginning, he wouldn't stop taking digs at Bethany. Visually, I mean all power to you if you're into it, but the suit with the tattoos and the complexion and the hair, all on one character it's a little much? (The wolf/elf image also seems to be a thing for BW in hindsight) Truth be told I never gave him a chance - and it's now sorta canon that I didn't. Like Hawke themselves, he strikes me as a novel concept they tried for in DA2 and then discarded.

Baldurs Gate 3 by far. Apart from Halsin, I like everyone - and Halsin was never be meant as a serious companion, he is just a meme. But the rest is so good, never experienced that in any other game.
Another great cast of companions is in SWTOR the smuggler bunch minus Corso. They feel like Firefly in the SW universe and I'm here for it.
And DA2 has interesting companions - it introduced me to my favourite DA character Varric and my favourite romance Isabela and the rest, while I don't always like them, are very interesting written. They really didn't take the easy route there, which I appreciate. They could have made Merrill the cutesy elf girl without flaws, but then she turns out to be a blood mage. Same with Anders being pro mage rebellion but jovial for two acts and then bam - full on terrorist. And while I don't agree with what Merrill and Anders did, I can understand their motives and reasoning. Same with Fenris, who started as this edgy McEdgelord and had my eyes rolling so much, but then he decided to join me in helping the mages and I was pretty surprised that this hardliner would suddenly go all 'This is not right' Generally Bioware companions are pretty hit and miss for me, I actually often end up not liking fan favourites like Alistair, Morrigan, Aerie, Viconia, Minsc, Cullen (not a companion, but pretty invovled in DAI - and I have opinions about him, not good ones), SOlas, Miranda, all the edgey romances. So just vibing with the companions in DA2 was nice (minus Sebastian, but he is pretty ignorable anyway). I do like the cast in DAI too, minus Solas. They are pretty well done and I started caring about them.

Dragon Age Origins. Even the drunk, Oghren, touched my heart when he took his place defending the gate. I would have said DA2 but then remembered Anders was a companion so it lost the opportunity.

Yep easily among my top 5 cast of companions in an rpg. Another great cast of companions is in SWTOR the smuggler bunch minus Corso. They feel like Firefly in the SW universe and I'm here for it. I've never played as a smuggler but it sounds fun I will try it out next time I play SWTOR.

My two biggest problems with bg3 cast are that I loathe Wyll’s re-write and that the Origins system creates companions that have to also function as protagonists, which makes it all feel a bit strange. They’re pretty fun though, easily the best companions Larian have written.

Tali (ME 2/3)....Jack (ME 2). Cassandra (Inquisition).
I know this isnt a Romance thread but I still say Cassandra is my fav DA romance and Jack is my fav ME romance....those two are, for me the best written characters in their respective franchises. The arks and development they each go through...❤️🩹❤️

My two biggest problems with bg3 cast are that I loathe Wyll’s re-write and that the Origins system creates companions that have to also function as protagonists, which makes it all feel a bit strange. They’re pretty fun though, easily the best companions Larian have written. How was Wyll rewritten? I didn't keep a close eye on early access, though I do remember disliking how they made Shadowheart fluffier in the release version.
