1. Dragon Age Origins: Not without flaw (Deep Roads/Fade), compared to classic cRPG pretty rudimentary, the bare minimums, the dumbing down of Baldur's Gate 2 - but overall still the most balanced and the best synthetized solution of Hardcore cRPG and designed for casual player.
2. Dragon Age: The Veilguard: Writing is the weakest aspect of the game, it's almost disappointment in this regard however it's actually structurally better than Inquisition. Other than that: An overall good experience and marginally a move to a good direction (if they ever make a follow up).
3. Dragon Age 2: Writing is "tight", RPG system is improvement compared to DAI, but itemization is worse and exclusion of companion item customization was a shock. I don't know how to feel about the exclusion of social skills from DAO and its replacement (tone dialogue). The writing man, DA at its peak, hobbled by gameplay.
4. Dragon Age Inquisition: The Bad Precedence. BioWare casualization of cRPG at its logical conclusion. Every bad thing that exist in DAV are all originated from DAI. DAI being a success setting a bad precedence for later game because it convinced BioWare (I think) that this is the market segment that they want to pursue. It's a solid somebody's first RPG. But weak RPG game compared to what has came before.

1) Origins 2) Veilguard 3) Inquisition I feel like these 3 games are close to one another as far as my personal liking goes, and they might swap positions depending on my mood. As for DA2 though, that one is absolutely bottom of the barrel. Edit: For me it is: 1. DAO 2. DAI 3. DAtV 4. DA2 Edit end.
I agree. Only that for me 2) DATV/DAI is a hard battle. We will see how win in the future.
Edit2: DAO: Best story. DAI: Best Romance. DATV: A fun game. DA2: unfinished game.

I like all the Dragon Age games, but Veilguard may be a tied last place with DA2. I love the gameplay, but the story needs more meat.
DAO > DAI > DA2 = DATV

DAO DAI DA2
I'm still working through how I feel about DAVe. Overall I enjoyed it but it would go from being a bad game to a good game back to a bad game for me. At it's best it's better than Inquisition, but it's worse is as bad as my experience with DA2. For me, there's a distinct divide between the good game and the bad game. So I guess the good game is above DAI and the bad game is tied with DA2.

1. DAI - It had the best companions and romances, the best story and lore, the best protagonist, and the best music. 2. DA2 - We all love Hawke, I think? The companions and romances were great too. 2. DAV - Good gameplay and fun combat. It has the most disappointing companions, romances and voice acting for a Bioware game (Edit: I haven't played MEA yet), and the main music theme was terrible. Tied with DA2 because Solas did not disappoint. 4. DAO - I know DAO is the darling of DA fans, but I really don't like silent protagonists. And it's dated. If they could remake it, it would probably be up there with DA2.

I for one believe that one day we might see a remake. Dead Space got a remake. It is not implausible for DAO to get one, even if it is done by a different studio under EA.

So I'm in a weird spot here because I haven't played Origins since it first launched. I only remember a few moments of my time with that game. While I do remember enjoying it, I don't think I was all that keen on the gameplay. It's really hard for me to place it tbh.
If I had to rank them the other three games, it would probably be:
1) Inquisition 2) Dragon Age 2 3) Veilguard

1. Origins, really the only truly amazing game of this franchise. Its one of the best RPGs of all time with a great gritty story (every major story arc is well done and has interesting choices & conflict), tons of RP especially with the origin stories (which were genius), terrific cast of characters, great worldbuilding. The combat is a bit slow especially now but that's the only flaw. Its a shame Bioware just ignored it when making the sequels
2. DA2, rushed to hell by EA but still has the more mature tone of Origins & some great characters and the Arishok & Mage vs Templar conflict are well done. But the copy & pasted levels, being restricted to one boring city and barely having any meaningful choices (no matter what Hawke fucks up) definitely it down.
3. DA:I, this is the game that changed the series tone not Veilguard. Suddenly there was no darkness in the world anymore, no hard choices and the villians became cartoony and easy to beat. The Inquisitor is the biggest power fantasy MC of the whole series, very unearned and you can barely be evil. The huge open world areas also sucked ass. It at least had some great characters like Solas, Cassandra, Dorian etc., good dialogue that doesn't sound like it came from 2024 US and most of the story missions apart from the horrific finale were still enjoyable. Still way overrated and should never have won GOTY
4. Veilguard, worst game overall. They had 10 years for this and wasted it. It has the worst dialogue of the series by far, most boring cast, shits all over lore & your choices from the previous games, it makes the setting completely disney (even more than DA:I) & dumbed down with no nuance/moral ambiguity. Everyone loves each other and is good. The other side is 100% evil. It doesn't feel like Dragon Age. Tevinter was unrecognizable from how it was established before for an example

Equal 1st: DAO & DAI
In terms of the vote I give Origins 1st outright mainly due to it being the lore source on which the following games lean on. I replayed it recently and I feel it holds up fairly well - the general atmosphere and plot are the most impactful of the series for me.
I find Inquisition the more replayable. Gameplay wise - masterworks, trials and the Golden Nug help there. World states create a sense of buy in before I start and mages/templars and WEAWH are nuanced enough to make me think twice whenever I get to them again.
Third: DA2 was a bit of let down IMO. When I replay, the general sense of hopelessness in the city tends to outway other more positive parts of the experience. That said, there are things worth replaying for - leftfield I know but the original voice of Corypheus belting out 'Blessed are you Dumat, silent and strong, secret and wise. We bring you gifts, sacrifices to your greatness.' - stuck in my head for some reason. Some of the companion/romance arcs are well done too.
DAtV. No score entered. I don't know if I'll play it.

Origins-best at the time. Best characters story etc. movement etc are great viciously dated for today’s standards. One 1️⃣ f the best endings in any video game I’ve ever played
Dragon age 2 -love my sarcastic mage hawke. Rough ending but u enjoyed the Cory dlc
Veilguard-I’m loving it since far. Blows inquisition out of the water in so many ways . My dwarf rook warden is as of act 1 of of my favorites in series. Can’t believe they didn’t tackle swimming but it is what it is. Little buggy but it’s early
Inquisition- combat is mostly horrible except for dragons. Dragons were easier to kill than bears etc. npcs are 1 closeup line and then you can’t even talk to them. Companions are great but not my favorites. Character creation was awful! Floating beards or hair!!some of the worst hair in a triple a studio. Trespasser and interesting dlc made the game fun but I’m never going back and I would for a remastered dao

A graphic and gameplay overhaul would be great. DAO's story, quests and voice acting were great, and I'd be happy to overlook the silent protag if it looked good and felt smooth. Like BG3, for example.

I'll never touch a DAO remake.
As for silent protagonist, I can accept there are advantages and disadvantages to it, but to outright call it dated is simply wrong.

DA2>DAO>>>DAI I'm going to probably ultimately decide DAV doesn't exist, so you can place that last for me. Haha, good idea! I think that's my order too except I did love DAI too and briefly considered it to be the best because new toy syndrome. Disclaimer: Haven't played any of the games in a very long time. DA2 was the most recent replay in 2015 or something. So it's all so vague I might come to a different conclusion if I replayed them all again. I'm almost afraid to replay and realize the writing was never that good to begin with. Mass Effect is still the love of my life though, the Legendary Edition replay was magic still.

DAO - definitely number 1, followed by DAI, DAV, and finally DA2. Origins was a great game that changed my gaming experience. No other DA game can match that. DAI delivered all I wanted and while I haven’t finished DAV yet I am thoroughly enjoying it. DAI was a good game with some great elements while I liked the game, I never loved the game.

1. Dragon Age Inquisition (9.5/10) - I'd say it only just beats Origins for me. But it feels like this great culmination of the series by that point, the threads of all those stories before coming together. Also great combat and despite some open areas being too big, great world too. And my favourite set of companions (Dragon Age anyway, Mass Effect 2 beats it).
2. Dragon Age Origins (9 to 9.5/10) - It really feels like a classic high fantasy epic - you take a fall, then build yourself up gathering allies. Feels a bit dated combat wise and all that (though I'm a controller/console player), but I can forgive that.
3. Dragon Age 2 (8/10) - It feels weird putting it in front of Veilguard. After another play of DATV it may go ahead. Characters and story of DA2 are soooo good, and combat is a nicely refined version of DAO's when it comes to console/controller but a lot of other design etc is copy-pasted and falls apart. I get that it was out of Bioware's hands though, EA were pushing them for this one (unlike MEA/Anthem which were more Bioware management's fault it seems?)
4. Dragon Age: The Veilguard (8/10) - Only narrowly behind DA2 for me really. If it capitalised more on the series' history and character dynamics more it'd be a 10/10 game, it ends up behind DA2 partly because of the strength of DA2's characters but also 2's flow of story. Act 1 - bar the fantastic Siege of Weisshaupt - lets the game down a bit - even the companions, all of whom I really like, don't hit their stride until act 2 which is not what you want in a Bioware game. Needed to be more conflict with companions too.
I'm in a happy position where I really enjoy all 4 games TBH.

I will have to return to this thread down the road, as I haven't played Veilguard yet. But I wanted to chime in anyway.
My ranking is currently in the form of release date. Origins is tied for my favorite game of all time, so it's first. Then Exodus for second rank, with Inquisition in third position.
I actually favor the companion roster in reverse. For the original trilogy, I found each cast of companions to have more that I favored as the series progressed. The only character I dislike in Inquisition is Sera, with me enjoying all the others to various degrees, and some being my favorites for the franchise. Inquisition also has my favorite soundtrack.
Running through my alternate world state right now, and the Inquisitor has moved up over Hawke as my second favorite protagonist. I feel like I have a better sense of who my canon and alternate Inquisitors are, and I am given more opportunities to continue to craft them as the story unfolds.

Not surprised to see DAO winning decisively. What is interesting to see is how DA2 is making a strong showing and giving DAI a run for it's money. Always thought it got too much flak back in the day.

DA2 finally gets the respect it deserves now that people had time to get over the technical aspects (that they were quite right to be mad about back in the day)

I'll never touch a DAO remake. As for silent protagonist, I can accept there are advantages and disadvantages to it, but to outright call it dated is simply wrong. it would have to be remade by a studio that respected what dao is lol

DA2 finally gets the respect it deserves now that people had time to get over the technical aspects (that they were quite right to be mad about back in the day) Still those technical aspects were the worse parts of the game. DA2 has a lot of charm and best villain of the series but so many WTF decisions they had to make even beyond the bugs.
