I'll never touch a DAO remake. As for silent protagonist, I can accept there are advantages and disadvantages to it, but to outright call it dated is simply wrong. it would have to be remade by a studio that respected what dao is lol I doubt anyone can make a good remake of DAO. Take a look at FFVII remake. Is it truly a good remake? I don't think so, even though it was made by pretty much the same people. At best I'll take a DAO remaster with technical fixes and maybe some update to graphics.

DAI: Far and away my favorite game of the series, and maybe ever. I love everything about it. I felt an instant and deep connection to my Inky, which persists until this day. I enjoyed the story, the characters (even the ones I loved to hate), the open world, even the "useless filler" quests, because they were exactly the kind of thing my Inky would do, regardless of it being connected to the greater story. The whole thing was a masterpiece, despite it's flaws. DAV: Honestly, after the announcement that the Inky would not be returning as protag, my expectations for this game bottomed out (even though I was expecting it from the start). My only interest became the elven lore, and the conclusion to the Solas story, both of which were delivered in spades. Everything else I liked was just gravy. In truth, I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I liked most of the companions. Bellara is a treasure, and my favorite. I enjoyed the main story and companion quests. Arlathan Crater is by far my favorite, and the only time I feel even a whisper of a connection to Rook as a protag. Not to mention that delicious smack-talk between Solas and Elgar'nan is pure gold. The only major issue I have is, unfortunately, Rook. I feel nothing for them. Their only use is as a conduit between me and the story. A bouncing potato would have served just as well. DAO: It's been years since I played, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit. Good story, good characters, overall just a good, enjoyable experience. DA2: It's a thing that exists. Don't hate it.

My current scores for each game based on my RPG rating system:
1. DAO - 96.4 2. DA2 - 84.6 3. DAI - 84.2 4. DAV - 71.0*
*Veilguard's score is a bit in flux as it is new and needs to be re-evaluated as I replay and time passes. Generally it has been in 70-75 range depending on how I'm feeling about a few parts of the game.

it's very hard
all games have something that is better than the others and i haven't finished DAV yet but i think i can put down a list
1) DA2: best plot, best character (Hawke), best combat (even if too fast), best ability trees 2) DA Origins: best atnmosphere and envinrment, best music, best companions 3) DA Inquisition 4) DA The veilguard: best builds, and it's something i really want in a game. If it wasn't based too much on parry and dodge i would have also said best combat because it's slower than DA2

This got way too long and will bore everyone, but eh, screw it. This is quite hard for me I love every DA game, that's right! Each has their own strengths and flaws, but all of them are endearing and I cherish the experience of playing them. In another thread I voted for DAI as my favourite, but I think only the future will tell where DAV will sit eventually (might go higher, might go lower, I need to replay a lot more for a final verdict). DAO: Very nostalgic about it and will always be special to me. Back then, a former school friend showed it to me and my other friends, and every Friday night, we'd play it for weeks. I did most choices and I was thrilled about those. I only played JRPGs prior to that and boy was it a hoot to make a character that you can actually shape! After we were done I got the game myself and I think initially I played 2-3 times in a row because it was just so good. Nowadays, it's a bit of a slog because I don't like running around in the Circle Tower and the Deep Roads, though the atmosphere is still really great and I do enjoy playing it (even though I'm no fan of silent protagonists). DA2: I don't care about the recycled environments and how quickly it was thrown together. I love it. I adore MHawke's voice, and it has super interesting companions. Fenris and Aveline are still two of my all-time favourites. Some really crazy and interesting shit happens in this game. The sidequests are also really great, I enjoyed them a lot. Hawke is my second favourite protagonist I think. DAI: The reason I finally signed up at the BSN. My hype was through the roof prior to release. Went in and instantly loved it. I even enjoyed roaming the Hinterlands for hours, marveling at the beautiful environment. DAI has also my favourite cast of companions in the whole series and a masterpiece soundtrack. I usually hate big maps, but exploring most of these was SO much fun, especially with the companion banter. Dunno what it is in BW games, but their atmosphere gets me, especially in the eerie maps like Fallow Mire, or the Fade section. So damn good. I really liked the Inquisitor, but I don't think I connected with them as much as with Rook and Hawke. All the DLCs were really fun, too. DAV: Was initially very sceptical, but all is well now - there are some things that feel very odd and I don't like, but the good outweighs the bad... And one thing I can say for sure, I never felt so connected to a DA protag before. Maybe I was just lucky with a combination of a stoic/gruff Grey Warden, but the reactivity to the faction paired with that incredible british male voice, and that my background for Rook made him feel so fucking alive. It was my most immersive DA run to date. The writers touched on a lot of topics with the companions that connected with my Rook's past and I could roleplay him even better than I had ever hoped, that was super cool. Thus, it has already a special place in my heart, as I have a huge emotional connection to it. The soundtrack is weaker than DAI's, but stronger than the other two for me, and has some really beautiful tracks that I connect with. Time will tell how the endless companion quest spam will get on my nerves, but in my second run right now it's still fun to discover more. For me, the ending is the best BioWare has ever done. I re-played all games prior to DAVs release, so it's fresh in my mind. I still love them all, but for the time being my ranking might be: DAI, DAV, DA2, DAO Let's see how quickly I tire out on DAV (I generally tend to tire out sooner or later in the DAverse anyway though, unlike the MEverse).

I'll never touch a DAO remake. As for silent protagonist, I can accept there are advantages and disadvantages to it, but to outright call it dated is simply wrong. I was referring to DAO looking and feeling dated, not the silent protag. Its graphics are dated, and I found the controls very clunky.

Had to think about the first two spots a bit.
1 - DAI 2 - DAO 3 - DA2 4 - DAV
Inquisition wins out since It's the one I've actually gone back and played through several times with different characters. I've only gone through DAO and DA2 twice with the same character and DAV once. It's also been around a decade since I've last gone through DAO/DA2. I tend to a playthrough of DAI once at least every few years.
That being said I do think DAO offers the superior role playing ability out of all the DA games. One of the advantages of the silent protagonist. There is a part of me that wishes Bioware had kept the DA series different from ME without adding a voiced protagonist.
Overall I enjoy most everything in DAI just a little bit more than with DAO. Maybe I'd think differently now if I went through DAO again now. I like how the worldstate comes together after two games in little ways. Really miss that with DAV. Skyhold comes close to the Normandy SR2 as the best base and I'm a huge ME fan. Descent and Trespasser are also some great DLC.

My #1 is DA2. Hawke and the companions are my favorite DA casts. They are such a disaster and I love them. The stories are very engaging and can get really dark. Combats are fun.
DAO, DAI, and DATV are tied. They are all great DA games with a few weaknesses.
DAO has the best role playing, writing, and settings. The combats are too dated. The companions are great but I don't like the romance option much (I play as gay HoF).
DAI has improved gameplay. I like the open world, including the notorious Hinterlands, but I don't like grinding for materials and power. The companions are also great but I don't like the romance much either.
DATV has the best combat, but the writing has some issues. I like most of the art style and the environment is amazing. The grinding for materials remains an issue. Davrin is one of my favorite companion and romance, and I enjoy Emmrich too. But I wish I could avoid recruiting Taash.

At best I'll take a DAO remaster with technical fixes and maybe some update to graphics. I don't think that will happen. And the longer they wait the less it becomes possible. So don't put to much hopes into that.

4) DA The veilguard: best builds, and it's something i really want in a game. If it wasn't based too much on parry and dodge i would have also said best combat because it's slower than DA2 This is what many people say. A fun game with good combat and really good skill system. And i agree that the slower combat is good. It helps me that i can play it without godmod.

1) DAV - Never in all my years have I come across such an rpg. An amazing story from start to finish. The companions are all very memorable. Bellara is my absolute favorite. She's like an improved version of Liara or Leliana. The combat is the best it's ever been. When the yellow icon appears above my head, I know to hit the button that blocks so that I can deflect and something really cool happens. The environments are outstanding and beautiful. And of course the best part of the game is with Solas and the Inquisitor. It kept me glued to my seat. It's the best storytelling since Andromeda.
2) DAI - It gets a lot right. Beautiful fauna, grass, plants, and the skies are very colorful. The music is amazing. The combat is the second best in the entire series. It suffers because it doesn't have the same level of depth that DAV has in terms of combat and storytelling. The choices you can make in this game, the disapproval scenes and the fact that some companions can even leave takes away from the game imo. I don't need to be distracted by companions that acknowledge the many choices I make in this game. Whether it's a drunk Cassandra, and angry Blackwall, a hostile Cole, or a Vivienne who dared to muck with my decorations. I can't take it. I need friendliness and constant reassurance. But the war table missions save this title. Waiting around for them to finish is easily the best thing BioWare has come up with outside of Veilguard itself.
3)DAII - Terrible combat. Same stupid structural layouts. Some of the worst companions in the series. They removed the approval/disapproval system so it's confusing on whether companions actually like you or not. The story takes too long to get going and nobody really cares about this random human in a city. Why couldn't we just be Rook in this game? Hawke can be aggressive, diplomatic, sarcastic. And these all sound and play differently from each other and it's confusing to me. It needs to be simpler. The companions are ridiculous and completely unrealistic. A dalish elf who wants to remember the past and bring glory to her clan? We've never encountered this before, so why now? On the other hand, Anders is the best thing to happen to Dragon Age, but I hear he's kind of a prude in this one, so my condolences to those who romanced him. Isabela might be the worst character in the entire series. Nobody likes pirates.
4)DAO - Where do I even begin? It's not the worst game I've ever played, but it's absolutely an awful Dragon Age game. You know you can set up traps in this game? You can scout ahead on your rogue and plan ambushes, and tactically assess where your enemies are and strike accordingly? You know you can even use your companions to draw enemies away from their allies and pick them off one at a time? I recall a time I had to actually line up a cone of cold on Morrigan so that it wouldn't hit Alistair and Sten. Preposterous and silly. It should just be friendly fire no matter what. And don't get me started on the story.
Who cares about Grey Wardens or Darkspawn? I want to hear about coffee, I want to know about rituals and daggers. And furthermore, the story is too complicated to get into. All these politics in these different cities and regions. I just know to pick Harrowmont every time, but the rest is too difficult to comprehend. I think I went with the werewolves and helped finish those troublesome mages in the tower. I heard there's some sort of healing character there. Oh well. And the interactions are too obtuse. Morrigan disapproved nearly everything I did or said and I tried so hard to get her to like me, but she's just too mean. And Sten wanted to fight me! I couldn't believe it. I don't come to play rpgs and games to experience such conflict and aggressiveness. It was horrible. And the music is some of the worst I've heard in any game. I wanted synthy, edm, action movie bangers, not music that bored me. All together, this is not a very good game.

I believ eLucanis wil hav eyou covered ther ehe can' tge tenough of the stuff.

Da2, then origins, then inquisition. And I refuse to rank the abomination.

I'm going to have a real hot take here:
1. Dragon Age 2 2. Dragon Age: Origins 3. Dragon Age: The Veilguard 4. Dragon Age: Inquisition
Inquisition just never really did it for me. I hated the empty open worlds. It does have better romances than Veilguard though.

1. Origins - It will always be Origins. I lost my damn mind when I played that game as I'd never experienced anything like it. I'd been gaming since the 90's and had pretty much stuck to games out of Japan with the odd shooter out of the west. To play a game where I could create a character and have them do the things that I wanted to do was amazing when I'd never been represented in any way in my past games before. I haven't played it in over 12 years and I am not sure how much I'd enjoy the gameplay now. But it will sit on that pedestal forever. I'm never taking these rose-tinted glasses off.
2. Inquisition - I can't explain my obsession with this game. I just loved it. The music was great as well. I think it also helped that I spent my time in the run up to it's release - in the Solas thread, having a nice time with everyone and being all excited about getting our hands on it and romancing that elf. Then the experience of how that turned out... Honestly it was just fun and a good time all round.
3. Veilguard - Yes some of this rating will still be Emmrich's fault. This game is going to be my DA2 I think. That one that I like that the majority at the time did not. I like it, it's fun. I wish it could have been more. I am joining it up with DA2 though because I love them both despite their flaws and can't really pick one over the other.
3. DA2 - I joined the OG BSN to tell everyone how much I hated this game. I bought it on release and it was just a few months after I'd played Origins for the first time so I was so gutted after that first playthrough and I needed to vent. Who knew that instead, memes would bring me to love it. Like Veilguard I do have an odd relationship with this game. I don't love the cast, but their VAs are among the best. I didn't care much for the story in Act 3 either, and I hated that coast bit of map. Good DLC though - I really enjoyed those and ended up doing a load of playthroughs just to enjoy them again. What I will say though, is DA2 did being a loveable asshole the best. Just as I got excited to finally play as my own gender in a game with Origins - DA2 came about and brought me back to men. Because I loved Male Hawke, and I loved sarcastic, but sometimes also angry, Male Hawke. I don't like going too mean (looking at you, ME3 Renegage Shep) but being the kind of protagonist that makes your companions call you an ass? Yeah, DA2 really outshines the other games on that.
