I just went to the Andromeda Initiative site, watched all the videos and I it's almost as if the site is trying to hide the fact that it's set in the ME universe, in which there's those other sentient species we have interacted with for three games (not counting mobile ones, if not 5). I specially noticed it in the orientation video, in which Jien Garson, the founder (of the Andromeda Initiative, AI) talks to you. "This journey is a major milestone for all of humanity as well as every other species in the Milky Way Galaxy." "but if successfull we have a chance to do the impossible and create a new future for all of humanity."
It may just be this promotional material but it seems way too humanity centered. Hopefully it's just that the founder of the project happens to be human and us being from the humanity arc they are just focusing on that instead of the game being humans, humans, humans and the occasional alien.
Note: Apparently there are 5 arcs going, kind of. The Nexus, the one the founder goes into seems to be a colossal ship the other arcs can dock into. Then there's Hyperion, the one in which you go and 3 other ones that carry a species each. So human, asari (hamburglar), krogan (from concept art), salarian (appeared on the N7 trailer, or at least I saw a definetely salarian silhuette) and I guess the turians go in the Nexus? Each arc will have a pathfinder, so we are humanity's and Hyperion's.

Well, we are the best looking one. Market testing generally favors asari for apparel ads, but humanity kicks the shit out of everyone when it comes to consumer product and even vehicle advertisements.

The Nexus looks like it's close to the Citadel in size. It's incredible how the AI utterly shits all over the original trilogy lore.

I always find it disappointing that we're in this very rich universe with all these beautiful species and aliens and we have to play as a human. Mass Effect needs to go the Dragon Age route, allowing us to play as different alien species. Screw humanity, in this universe they've created humanity is uninteresting. Hopefully Andromeda will bring in emotion, story, and character development or it'll fail in my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if the andromedans think Hyperion is the asari arc due to all the asari pin ups on the hull.

I've no problem with Mass Effect being a story from a human perspective, I only wish people would understand that gaming is sometimes about escape. I'm a human 24/7, it's nice not to play as one in a game from time to time. It's why i'm glad of the multiplayer. At least there we can cut loose and play as an alien.

If at least the humans stayed as were in ME1 (the newcomer, the ignorant ones, those who were just one of many races...sadly it only was for a little while, and than let's start with the "humanity is special" festival ) I really relate little to nothing to the humanity that is presented in ME. It's just so... american. I felt more connected to the aliens than with the humans.

Hopefully Andromeda will bring in emotion, story, and character development or it'll fail in my opinion. I don't mind playing as a human, but I wish it wasn't always humanity doing everything and being involved in everything. In the video you get two humans. I can understand the founder being human, if they want to draw from this thirst of exploration we're supposed to have more of than other species. And the other is the N7 guy, who from that website is Hyperion's pathfinder (and our dad) so it makes sense he's there. I'm just afraid that all the personnel is charge of everything is going to be humans, and it's all going to be about humanity with their sidekicks, the other species. I was hoping for this to be more of a collaborative effort, with more presence from the other species, even if the original idea comes from a human. In other words. I don't mind seeing this exploration effort from a human's point of view but I was hoping for a Milky Way natives exploring Andromeda angle, not Humanity exploring Andromeda (and there's those other species too. I guess. For romance options.)

I imagine people would be pretty disappointed in how much the game could realistically shape itself around the alien options.

That video is the human promotional video for the human branch of the initiative project so is pretty normal that is human centric.

Has the krogan ark been confirmed because as a species I just don't see how they'd pull it off. A krogan teammate could just mean that there was room for individuals of other races to tag along if they wanted to.
I'm not thrilled about the HUMANITY! slant of the promos so far but if I look at the first one as an in-universe recruitment campaign then the other species would have had their own Go Us versions so I don't mind it that much. I just don't want the game itself to treat humans as special snowflakes.

Well, they are trying to get recruits and encourage the ones they do have. I assume the other races involved are getting similar spiels tailored to them.

Majority of players in Dragon Age Inquistion and Origins played as a human male. I think for many it's hard to relate to a character that is alien in it's origins. That is why Mass Effect has always been human focused. What the hardcore fanbase wants can be a lot different from the casual fanbase wants.

Yeah it must really suck to be one of the other aliens going on this voyage and having to sit through the initiation video.
"Welcome to the Andromeda Initiative [lesser life form]. With your help we will chart a route to the farthest stars and cement humanity's place in all of civilized history." "Worry not about your lives, they are all expendable as we, humanity, continue to push the boundaries of what's possible in our universe."

I have to just pipe in with my Unpopular Opinion and say that if they actually build it up just to deconstruct / offer some criticism of it later (and I think the "We are the aliens" line in the trailer kinda hints at that), I don't mind starting the game from the "humanity first" perspective - or even if that's one of the gameplay / moral stances you can take in the game.
The one thing that annoyed me about how Cerberus was handled in ME2 & ME3 is that their ideology of human exceptionalism is explicitly constructed as evil and wrong... while the humanity IS doing most of the work, pulling all the alliances together and fighting a lost battle to gather time so Shepard can wring the other aliens to work together like a bag of hungry and angry cats. The story claims one thing and story proclaims another - and ultimately, the debate has no room to take place, except for a handful of discussions in ME2. And let's not forget about the whole human Reaper and humanity is special Harbinger dialogue... ugh. Not a fan.
IMO, it would be much better if they start with a non-explicit ideological assumption - "humanity first" - and then put it and its criticism into real test in terms of story and in gameplay and let the player decide if they / their Ryder ends up agreeing with that assumption, or ends up rejecting it.

To be honest I can't stop smiling as the promo trailer and the set up on the website with more briefings to come just looks like so much fun But just to sprinkle a light dusting of icing sugar on some of the unhappy faces in this thread... (sorry I'm going to be impossibly happy until I go to work in the morning) 1. Of course it's going to look different from the previous ME promo stuff not only has time and website functionality moved on but this is a different journey/story and most of the people coming to this won't be ME nerds so it shouldn't have to many nods to the previous trilogy (it will just confuse) 2. This site is aimed at human recruitment if you check the extranet you'll find recruitment and briefing sites for the other species where you'll find an appropriate lead billionaire sounding like its their expedition (except the Krogan site which is more a single page with some rude comments about Salarians but they are going to take their credits anyway to provide muscle on this dumb arsed journey they are setting out on) 3. The Nexus being like the hub... nice call I didn't notice that... but as for shitting over ME lore and codex well we can explain most of it as the usual media bias, government lies and corporate greed keeping secrets and distorting truth (of course that might just be my jaundiced view of life outside ME)

As ddraigcoch123 says, the promotional material seems to be created as fictional promotional material for human recruitment, so it would make sense to stress the human point of view. The real question is whether the actual game would allow for more points of view or it will be another "humans are the Mary Sues of the galaxy" run.
At this moment, I'm more baffled that the timeline of human space exploration includes the Sojourner and Falcon 9, but no mention about the Sputnik, Gagarin, the first probes in Mars, the space stations, etc. It seems the "humans first" trope is not the only kind of provincialism i n the promotional material.

"but if successfull we have a chance to do the impossible and create a new future for all of humanity." It may just be this promotional material but it seems way too humanity centered. You got the answer at the bold part. That video is the human promotional video for the human branch of the initiative project so is pretty normal that is human centric. Exactly! It's designed as a semi-real promotion for us to join the human part of the initiative, and help humanity find its home in Andromeda because that's OUR job as the human pathfinder. Just as it's the aliens pathfinders job to do the same. And since we are pretty much still in the dark on all of this, I think it's too early to say that we won't help all the races on the way (and they help us). Why else would they join our "party"?
