No question the female Ryder. I always play as a female in my first play through when it's an option. I'm not a big fan of playing as a male. I've always been more interested in female protagonists, it's probably just that I have a better time relating. Male play throughs only happen when I'm interested enough in romancing a female character (sometimes not even then if she's bisexual) or if I'm doing a "every choice I wouldn't make" play through

I'm male, so male it is. I might try out a female playthrough whenever I'm done exploring all the content available to male characters before moving on.

I don't know, sort of. A lot of variables, including my own mood will probably influence whether or not I will play female second or another male.

Well I got that figured out for over a year now, so ekhem:

First playthrough: Male Ryder, Infiltrator-ish (considering that we can mix up classes), paragon (but not perfect), canon look

Second playthrough: Female Ryder, Biotic, will do what feels best at the moment, canon look

Third playthrough: Male Ryder, Vanguard, chaotic evil, custom look (blonde hair for sure, dunno why)

Fourth playthrough: Male Ryder, Soldier, holy paragon, custom look (100% perfect playthrough)

Fifth playthrough: Female Ryder, Probably will go for mixed up classes, badass paragade, custom look (Red hair for sure)

So, yea, that's that

The NG+ feature of swiching genders is really interesting. I think I'm going to use it for my second playthrough with SisRyder.

SisRyder all the way. When I was younger I used to play as dudes in rpgs, cause they had better romances. (Ashley, sigh. Y U NO LIKE FEMSHEP) :lol:

Right now I just can't create an interesting personality for a male and I can't even empathize with him. This is why I need a female protag, it's damn fun to play as badass gal. Plus, I won't deny myself f/f romance if there is one.

Someday we will foresee obstacles...

About male vs female PCs in games, ever since I played Drakan The Ancient's gates on PS2 I've just wanted more adventure-RPGs with female protagonists. There was something cool about playing as this british and posh heroine that kicked ass through scary-ass environments, not to mention she rides her dragon. Seriously, someone go play that game right now on a PS2 emulator. It's got such a great sense of wonder to it IMO, because the world feels so big and mysterious.

Rymom is probably tied to this "Ryder family mystery". I hope the fact that BioWare calls it that implies they will not answer it fully in Andromeda, but give hints about what it is and hopefully it's more compelling than daddy issues even though we'll be having plenty of those when Rydad becomes the antagonist in the game.

Well, I wouldn't put past Bioware to do that

I didn't mean he'd die at the beginning, but I think it's a bit weird that they started marketing our character with the same armour of our father. It doesn't fare well for Alec. Expecially considering we don't seem to get the armour when we became the Pathfinder.

And while optional, it'd be weird to have father and child fought each other in the same armour.

Expectation: Clancy Brown is playing our father, thus we suspect he'll be evil and die during the game.

Conclusion: He will probably end up being a good guy and survive the entire game.

(Clancy Brown almost always plays antagonists, so having him eschew that in MEA would be a genuine surprise)

I'm torn between playing bro Ryder first and feeling the fresh torment of not being able to instantly bang the male companions I meet in my first playthrough, and playing sis Ryder first and then awkwardly longing to bang bro Ryder and feeling gross about it on a meta level

Nobody followed up on that thought yet, but now it got me thinking about the names. Part of me liked to call the F!Ryder Valentina after Tereshkova to honor the whole female space exploration thing. Which would easily make the M!Ryder Valentin. But it is a touch long for my taste, so it could be shortened to Valen for both. Or Valyn and Valen, both BioWARE'ish names.

On the other hand, I also like Mark and Mary, my 2nd and 3rd characters in MET for the sheer simplicity of the names. But naming the Ryders after Shepards just feels like clutching to the past instead of going forward & moving on to the new game, new world etc.
