I kinda wish I could trade that scene with the drunk scene. Assuming the deleted scene was more or less like the slides, I think the game needed both. It would make sense if in ME3 Ash's little arc was a crisis of faith with the chance to resolve it one way or another in the cut scene. Sort of like Leliana in DAO in the dialogue about Marjolaine / hardening her character. Hard to say without seeing all the dialogue in the source what the problem was. Ideally Shep would have had some varied dialogue choices to describe what he experienced rather than auto-dialogue. Obviously real life doesn't work like this where you have 4 conversations with someone and may completely work through doubts and large metaphysical quandaries, but it is a game. They mostly just go with the smaller "faith" issue of trust in Shepard, and that probably didn't need the drunk scene, but also is pretty bland and also feels like it is missing something. The drunk scene is different if you romanced Ashley? I can't find it in YT

Shepard: Vega's got some eggs ready for you... Oh. I'm thinking a "no" on the eggs. Ash? Ashley: Uh... Sir. I'm off duty. Your voice. Sir. Not... so... loud, please thank you. Shepard: What have we here? Why are you curled up on the floor? Ashley: Am I? My head... so heavy. Can't move. I'll be back to work in 30... maybe 40, I swear. Just... give me 45 minutes. Shh. Shepard: Ah. Enjoy your evening? You know, I think it might be time to test the fire alarm... Shepard: I could order Joker to sing to you over the comm. Ashley: I'll pay you a million credits not do that, sir. Shepard: Two million, and we have a deal. Ashley: You're a damn space pirate. Ashley: I hate you. Shepard: "I hate you...?" Ashley: Sir. I prefer embarrassing myself in private, sir. Shepard: Mission accomplished, Lieutenant. Ashley: No one likes sarcasm, Commander. Shepard: I do. Shepard: I want you fit for duty in 20 minutes, Lieutenant. Ashley: Aye, aye, Captain. Commander. Something. Shepard: I don't recall receiving an invitation to your party, Williams. How did you end up in this sorry state? Ashley: Just wanted to let off some steam. Vega said he had "just the thing" to take my mind off stuff. Shepard: And did that "thing" come in a bottle? Ashley: Yes. Shepard: This empty bottle? Ashley: It's empty? Oh boy... Shepard: As you were, Williams.
I hate the scene since I wanted Shepard to berate her because she's a military officer, you're in a war, Normandy is a military vessel... if she wanted to be a useless drunk on the floor, she could do it in the airlock.... but I can't. Its a scene where you could only tease Ashley for being adorably drunk as it only serve as a short comic relief. However, the scene could have work better if it was given a better context. It happened right after Admiral Koris mission where you have a choice between saving Koris or his Crew. Ashley see herself in the situation (as with Tali after Horizon) and she was remembering her unit on Eden Prime. Paragon Shepard could empathize with her and talk about what's bothering her. Renegade Shepard should be able to remind her about what was at stake and she need to keep it together. It exist for Kaidan and you could simply tell him to get over the fact that his dad just died. That was cold. --full deleted scene script-- (however I'm not sure whether its legit but I have found several FemShep/Kaidan deleted audio, so there's a possibility they did exist in the game) Ashley: Hey Commander, I was just about to go look for you. I have a question for you. Shepard: What's up? Ashley: I wasn't sure...well, it's not exactly regulation. Shepard: I'm curious. Shoot. Ashley: Laying there in the hospital, I had a lot of time to think. Lots of stuff going on, lots to try and deal with. Shepard: I understand. I've spent more time in hospitals then my own ship. Ashley: ...and thanks for coming by. Hospitals always make me nervous. Something about shuffling off our mortal coil, y'know? I couldn't wait to get out of there. I hate hospitals. Hate the smell. Hate the colors. Hate the reminder of...the end, Y'know? Shepard: You...had a question? Ashley: Yeah...well, I guess I'll come out and ask; you were dead...weren't you? I mean...really dead. Right? Shepard: So I heard. I couldn't say for sure, but I think so. Ashley: {Long pause} What did you see? Bright light? Dark tunnel? Anything? Shepard: That's a big question, Ash. I'm not sure the answer will be what you're looking for. Ashley: It is what it is, Shepard. There's no right or wrong. Shepard: I was wondering when you would come out and ask me. People haven't really asked. Ashley: That's hard to believe. You died! You saw what's next. How can anyone not be curious about that? Shepard: All right. I'll tell you what I know. The truth is...I don't remember much. Ashley: What do you mean? Shepard: I remember floating after an explosion in the Normandy pushed me out into space. There was a sharp pain in my chest. I couldn't breath but could feel air being leeched from my lungs. I struggled, tried to stop the air from leaking- all pointless...but it doesn't take long before it was all blackness. Ashley: Did you see anything? Shepard: I did see a light. Ashley: Really? Shepard: It was the Cerberus lab, Ash. Nothing else. I heard voices, muffled for a bit. The next time I woke up, I had to escape the facility. Ashley: So you don't know. Shepard: I don't know. I'm sorry. Ashley: I guess the big question won't get answered today. Shepard: I'm afraid not. Ashley: Well, crap. You failed as my life-after-death inside source. Shepard: I could dance for you. Ashley: Please don't. * Shepard: To tell the truth, I don't remember anything. Ashley: Nothing at all? Shepard: Even with my experience, I don't think I should be answering questions about your beliefs. When I realized what had happened. What Cerberus had done to bring me back...I panicked. I shut down. I pushed the fear away just long enough to deal with the Collectors...but it didn't stay away. The time alone in Alliance lock-up I had to confront what I was. Ashley: What are you afraid of? Shepard: Ash, I don't know if I died and came back...or simply died. Ashley: What do you mean? Shepard: I don't know if this is the Shepard you knew, or some incomplete copy. I don't know. Ashley: Does it matter?

Definetely they should have added "something" to the scene. They could have go all "Williams commemoration of Armistice Day" with more deep this time, because Williams situation is not the same it was in the first game. Or if you romanced her, maybe the reason why she's drunk is because that day is the day Shepard died. The last two years has mourned you the day you die that way. Or simply, give Ash more scenes!! They lost a great opportunity to put Ash and Tali drunk together.

What annoys me is that I can't have Shep go and chew Vega out for encouraging her to get drunk in the first place. My Shep was desperately trying to win Ashley back at the time and suspected that Vega was trying to muscle in. All i wanted was a "Oh, and Vega? Back OFF!". It would also have been nice to have asked Ash what drove her to drink (kind of like the Tali scene later) or in my Shep's case, to suggest that next time she "needs to blow off some steam" she knows where his cabin is.

I'm a big fan of Ash, as you can see. In my current ME-2 playthrough I have MaleShep being entirely faithful to Ash, continued from ME-1. He's a bit lonely right now. I watched the various romances available in fan created Youtube vids and didn't care for the Miranda and Jack storylines. On my next playthrough it will be FemShep palling around with Tali. I really love her too, though I'm not such a fan of the quarians. I just love Ashley's character so much that I have to play MaleShep so I can listen all of her dialog.
I guess I'm too picky for my FemShep - Other than Garrus, I don't see any other male NPC that I would want to be involved with, so my FemShep playthroughs are less interesting.

i.imgur.com/Q9DmN.jpgI'm so sad they cut this scene from final game. Tho I can see why, they didn't want to open conversation about afterlife in ME universe. The weird thing is though, some of that dialogue is familiar. Forgot the mission, but right before priority Earth I believe, when Shepard encounters those consoles or something. You can click them and get background info on what Cerberus did to you. When you have Ash with you some of the dialogue you've shown does appear I believe. Been a long time, so I could be wrong.

The mission you speak of is the attack to Cerberus base, just before priority Earth. The consoles shows some Cerberus recording relevant to EDI (it is said she is the renegade AI from moon of ME1), EVE and I think one about Lazarus project. If Ash is there I think there is at least a dialogue about what Cerberus have done with/of Shepard during the Lazarus project. I do not recall it exactly but yes it could sound similar to the last lines of the cut scene, with some wondering if Shepard is exactly who he was before dying. Again, I remind well the mission and the fact there are dialogues when looking at the recording on the consoles, but not recall exactly the dialogue(s)

Again, I remind well the mission and the fact there are dialogues when looking at the recording on the consoles, but not recall exactly the dialogue(s) Yes, thank you, I looked it up, here's a video of it. It's between 20 minutes in until 23 or so. I thought there was more dialogue there, and there should have been. It's something at least

I agree. It's really a pity the scene was cut. It would have been a perfect development of Ash character from ME1; I also agree the drunk scene, if given in a beeter context, would have work well; as it actually is I really dislike that scene. The first time I had a reaction very similar to Toledo. All in all two missed opportunities Between the drunk scene and the EC meetup, it's like they couldn't figure out what to do with Ash in her down time but to get her hammered Hey, nice to see you here as well. I quoted you in an earlier post of mine, hope you don't mind. Thinking of the Mehem mod (mostly fixing the trainwreck) and the shared opinion we had on why the ME 3 ending was awful. Not many agreed. By the way, if you haven't already, you should should check out the big article that was linked earlier in this thread, written by Vrex.

I love the character of ash. My first run through all 3 games, she was my go-to romance. But after she cussed me out, when I joined up with Cerberus, I went after Miranda. Then, when she came back into my life, I went after her again. But Miranda's reaction to me telling her I wasn't interested anymore, god I felt so bad.
Then I played the DLC, and ash was flirting with that N7 guy (can't remember his name). I was like wtf lady. You said you were still interested, and then you were wanting to play the field?

I wonder if Ashley was suppose to be a spectre before ME3? She has the logo on her armor in this video before the release of ME3

I started another playthrough of Mass Effect wanting to romance Liara. Went well until first talk with Ashley at Normandy. You just have to admire how well written is her character in ME1. Must resist tho

So true. I wonder if Chris L'Etoile had been her writer in me2/me3, it might have been different. I'm guessing several things would've been different in ME3

I started another playthrough of Mass Effect wanting to romance Liara. Went well until first talk with Ashley at Normandy. You just have to admire how well written is her character in ME1. Must resist tho Hehe indeed. I did it once, didn't romance anyone in ME1, then in ME2 I romanced Miranda I believe. And then at the beginning of ME3, seeing Ashley again, was so weird. I was so happy to see her and then I realised I didn't romance her in ME1. Of course I could have still initiated a romance but it wouldn't be the same. Don't think I've finished that playthrough actually. I don't think any other LI comes close to Ashley and Shepard in terms of compatibility. Both have a military background, Ashley is opiniated and has a strong personality but underneath that hard exterior is a woman that cares a great deal for the people she trusts, and willing to do what's right. Shepard is perhaps more reserved and calm, more open to different ideas and opinions and the people that support those, so he forms a good counterbalance. They share the will to do what's right. At least that's how I always saw (my)Shepard.
