Anime is a Mistake

I fucking hate it. It doesn't feel like Berserk, which is something both the original anime and the movies, regardless of their faults, were spot on with.

Anyone seen Usagi Drop?

I watched a few years back when it had a minor amount of interest because the manga got a anime adaption, but I never really heard of it taking off so the folks I have encountered who have seen it are fairly rare.

Watched it to Episode 260 so far. I loved season 4 the most.





That's mah bro! I put it differently: I read too much books and texts and don't want my entertainment time to be spent on reading too. If I want to amuse myself and enjoy something like sci-fi or Japanese culture stuff I prefer to watch. 

I've been watching foreign stuff (I cut my teeth on 80s Hong Kong action films) for so long reading subs is completely unconscious for me these days

Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star! Shout out to ♠ ΑΡΣΑΚΗΣ LVII ♠ for bringing those up. Gene Starwind was my dude and it was a great followup to DBZ back in Toonami's heyday. And Pearl, I'm gonna get you into moar.

I need to check out the original Berserk anime. I've heard it was pretty brutal and raw.

On the brighter side, PeaceMaker Kurogane is one of the funniest (yet somehow pretty dark) anime I've seen. Lots of cool characters and moments. So was Saiyuki.

Here is my top 13 anime of all time:


1. WataMote (A.K.A. WATASHI GA MOTENAI NO WA DOU KANGAETE MO OMAERA GA WARUI) #Subbed







My favorite anime and show. It's about a 15 year-old girl (Tomoko Kuroki) who suffers Social Anxiety and therefore struggles to communicate with other people. The series is about her attempting to overcome her Social Anxiety and her day to day life. She usually comes up with plans that make sense based upon what she observes, but usually backfire. This is a Spice of Life/Comedy and is arguably even a study of Social Anxiety, some people have called the show tasteless and cruel, but I, a sufferer of Social Anxiety, love it.

2. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (2012) #Subbed







The humor, action and characters in this are top notch. If you like Dragon Ball Z then you'll definitely like this. If you don't like Dragon Ball Z, well, that's perfectly fine, because you'll probably still love this. This series is bold and is not afraid to pull the rug out from under you and your expectations. Jojo has the best fighting scenes out of any show that I've ever seen and it somehow always manages to escalate with each successive fight. The humor can be dark or just plain wonky which is great because it allows all types to laugh. I'm not going to get into the plot because spoilers, but giving this show a chance is a must!

3. Fate Zero/Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks #Subbed or Dubbed (Subbed preferred)







Do you like magic and watching famous people beat the tar out of each other? If so, then this show is probably for you! Both series have a strong sense of character development and an emphasis is put on the characters and their motivations. When I first watched Fate Zero, I was actually confused as to who was the main character because all the characters were given a lot of screen time and elaboration. I'd say my favorite out of the two series was Fate Zero due to the emphasis on the characters and the awesome servant battles, but UBW was really good too (although it starts off in the traditional high school setting. Thankfully, it moves away from it). If you like plotting, betrayal, awesome fight sequences, and historical figures then you should give it a watch!

4. Gintama (A.K.A Silver Soul) #Subbed



The show about nothing and everything, seriously (except it isn't serious, but when it is). For the most part, Gintama is a parody series that makes fun of popular culture such as video games and other shows, however, it does have some serious arcs to give a break from all the parodying and to advance the overall narrative. The skinny on the plot is that aliens called 'Amanto' have invaded Edo Japan and are met in battle by the brave Samurai. Eventually the Edo government bows and peace is established with some 'Amanto' setting up on Earth. As a result of this, there may have been a rapid expansion of technology (it isn't clarified if the technology was commonplace before the war, but it is doubtful); regardless, the series starts twenty years after the Amanto War and follows Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura as they make a day to day living by tackling odd jobs. For being as long of a show as it is, 201 episodes in it's initial run, it never lost my interest. I'd definitely recommend it to someone who isn't looking for something serious.

5. Toradora! (A.K.A Tiger Dragon) #Subbed







This was my favorite for a very long time until WataMote came along and dethroned it. Toradora! is about a boy (Ryuji) with eyes that usually causes people to fear him (much to his dismay) and a cute girl (Taiga) with a serious attitude. The two soon discover that they like each others best friend and form an unlikely alliance to try and end up with them. This is a Spice of Life/Comedy/Romance/Drama.

6. Spice and Wolf (A.K.A. Ookami to Koushinryou) #Dubbed







One night a travelling merchant (Kraft Lawrence) comes across a surprise in his cart, nestled asleep inside is an attractive nude woman with wolf ears and a tail. The woman identifies herself as Holo, the wise wolf. The two eventually reach and arrangement and began to travel together, eventually Holo begins to demonstrate a deep understanding of economics, much to Lawrence's surprise. Is the travelling merchant in over his head? Will he be outfoxedwolfed? You'll have to watch this show about Economics/Romance to find out.

7. One Punch Man #Subbed



The current sensation that is sweeping the nation, this show might not require an introduction, but I am going to give it a short one anyway. One Punch Man is a hilarious examination of how media makes the most ridiculously over-powered superheroes and manages to top them all by introducing a hero who is apparently invincible and can beat nearly any opponent in a single punch; much to the protagonist's chagrin.

8. Daily Lives of High School Boys (A.K.A Danshi Koukosei no Nichijou) #Subbed







Daily Lives of High School Boys manages to keep things fresh by featuring a wide array of characters and glimpses of their lives. It's a very Robot Chicken-esque show, that is to say random, but random in a way that makes sense and pertains to the lives of the High School kids. It sets up many long running gags and even breaks the fourth wall on occasion. DLoHSB is pure comedy (and fun).

9. Clannad and Clannad: After Story #Subbed







Clannad is about a High School delinquent (Tomoya) who cuts class and a girl (Nagisa) who dreams of bringing back the theater club. The two meet on the way to school one fateful day and set out to bring back the theater club, which might not be as possible as they had previously thought. Clannad is a Romance/Comedy/Drama



Clannad: After Story covers Tomoya's life after High School and deals with him becoming an official part of society. He soon learns that the life of an adult isn't necessarily a glamorous one and experiences my vary, as trials begin to line up to test his resolve. Clannad: After Story is known for tearing viewers down and bringing them to tears (don't google image search Clannad as you'll be spoiled). Clannad: After Story is a Romance/Spice of Life/Drama

10. Angel Beats! #Dubbed








A main character with a severe case of amnesia, a student taking aim at the student president with a sniper rifle, and awesome music is what one is immediately treated to when tuning into the first episode of Angel Beats! Guns blazing on the High School grounds is an everyday occurrence in Angel Beats! Angel Beats! has a unique premise, one which will be clear by the end of the first episode. Can the amnesiac regain his lost memory and who will he ultimately side with? This anime is a Drama/Mystery/Fighting/Comedy.

11. Noragami #Subbed







What is it like to be forgotten? What is it like to be at rock bottom? Noragami deals with both of these questions by following the forgotten god Yato. Yato has to resort to taking odd jobs in order to gain followers so that he can be revered once again. Things start to take a turn for the forgotten god after he rescues a female student (Hiyori) from death, out of gratitude she comes to help Yato in his quest to become recognized, for better or for worse. Noragami is a Comedy/Fighting anime.

12. Date A Live/Date A Live II #Subbed







Date A Live uses the Harem genre on purpose as part of the main plot, the show would not work without it being set up in a such a way. The plot is also a lot more complicated than one is initially led to believe. Date A Live follows Shido, a high schooler, who initially doesn't know that he contains the ability to seal the power of Spirits (beings who cause spacequakes, large natural disaster like catastrophes which result in the destruction of life). If you are looking for a good comedy with quite a bit of romance, fighting, and a surprisingly complicated plot with likable characters then Date A Live/Date A Live II is what you should turn your attention to.

13. Golden Time #Subbed







Only three shows on this list don't involve high school in any capacity and this is one of them. Golden Time takes the old High School cliche and spins it to be set at a college instead. In fact, Golden Time takes many tried and true cliches and spins them into something new and interesting, example: The Beach/Swimsuit episode. This anime has a truly great antagonist and one who I felt a great deal of sympathy for, I'd recommend it based on that alone. If you like mystery, romance and young adults trying to find their place in life give this a watch.
