The Zeon always have compelling speeches. I admit I haven't seen the original MSG as its pretty hard to get a hold of, but I'm currently watching 0083 Stardust Memory. 0083 Actually ties into this particular speech given it starts at the Zeon fortress of A Baoa Qu. The very location Supreme Commander Gihren Zabi would deliver this speech on December 30th of 0079 at the onset of the the final battle of the war. Gihren was a masterful orator and while many within Zeon would rally others to their cause through speech and word. Few would cause potent reaction as he did among adherents. You need to write a MSG lorebook. I'd almost pay you.

Stardust Memory started off well, but it went downhill towards the end. Still a decent show but far from the best. Both openings are brilliant though....

I've been looking for more anime to consume. My tastes are as follows: Spriggan FMA Brotherhood DBZ (80's/90's) Death Note Hellsing Fist of The North Star Something violent but not gratuitously and also more adult oriented than the typical shonen style. And good animation. Not a big fan of mechs even though I thought Full Metal Panic! was good though I only liked two Gundam series (Mobile Suit and Wing). Baccano.

+1 to Baccano its my second favorite anime after Spice and Wolf. This might interest you: www.amazon.com/Spice-Anniversary-Collectors-Isuna-Hasekura/dp/0316504017"Spice and Wolf is ten years old! To commemorate this notable event, Yen Press is producing a special, limited and numbered collector's edition omnibus collecting all seventeen original volumes of Spice and Wolf in one lavish tome. Beautifully bound and impressively designed to give the impression of a medieval manuscript, the book will also include all of illustrator Jyuu Ayakura's original illustrations. This book will be the crown jewel in any collector's library!" It's $150, but if it sells well we might get a season 3. Still, needs to be leather-bound at that price and to fit with the era of the show in my opinion.

Cheers. I know about the one year war, as I've seen the 08th MS Team and I was always curious about what led to that point. I've also seen those recent OVAs MSG the Origin, but its a little hard to follow.

Just finished watching Yu Yu Hakusho again.
I know tournament arcs are hardly unique, but the Dark Tournament is probably by far the best tournament arc in a fighting anime I have ever seen.

Cheers. I know about the one year war, as I've seen the 08th MS Team and I was always curious about what led to that point. I've also seen those recent OVAs MSG the Origin, but its a little hard to follow. Well to sum it up succinctly. The Federation/Zeon War goes back to a desire for independence. The Federation has utter control over all the space colonies. This extends from direct political controls to economic measures. For example in order to feed the people of Earth the Federation has measures in place to take food surpluses without payment. Forgoing the fact that more than half the human race lives within space there is no input from the Sides in their rule. This is something that Zeon Sum Deikun detested. But beyond that this philosopher also put to pen something revolutionary. The Newtype theory. This contolism thesis spoke of the next stage of human evolution being birthed in space. To explain it swiftly suffice to say that it spoke of moving all humans to space and having them respect the planet as a holy site. These ideals would later be taken under the sway of the Zabi regime in support of the "right of the fittest." The superior race of Zeon ethos was born in the writings of Deikun. When Deikun died and Side Three openly rebelled against the Federation in 0068 the entire Side went dark in the aftermath. The Federation placed embargoes on the remote colonies and declared it a illegal state. The next decade saw rampant militarization on both sides. The Federation knew that Zeon would declare war one day. And on 0079 it happened. Zeon returned from the darkness of space with a military capable of combatting the largest armed forces organization in human history. To put it even more bluntly. This is a battle between a fascist dictatorship and a collection of self interested oligarchs to decide the fate of the human race. There is no "good" or "bad" side to be found here. Just politics and people. Societies and cultures clashing. The ideals of the Zabi dictatorship pitted against the greed of the 1%.

Its the opposite of Part 4 really, Part 4 has an enjoyable start but nothing amazing, but once Kira enters the story, part 4 easily reaches the level of part 2 and 7. Not that there was no good fights in the second half of SDC, there was but the pacing even int he manga was bad, anime just made the pacing even more unbearable.

Huh, I see this thread still lives. Very good. I'm thinking of watching Gundam Origin when I return home from the job I'm currently at. Also watched an English Dub episode of RE UC, was not impressed on the voice acting of the Banshee Gundam trashing the Delta Plus. I liked that Cruz had gone almost insane in the sub version, due to her mental condition. Iron Blooded Orphans season 2 is coming. Thoughts in spoiler. While I did like many things about IBO, none of the characters really stuck to me. The pacing was inconsistent and overall some episodes were a chore to watch. However, some of the episodes did have me excited and the fights were extremely well done. I hope IBO S2 actually learns from S1's mistakes, but the protag right now seems like a lost cause. It would be interesting however if they allowed Mikazuki some character development, allowing him to become more Human and less of a murderous killing machine. The good in IBO has the second season on my list, but I'm hoping it isn't a SEED Destiny. However, I feel it might be time to give Gundam in general a break. With all this money I dunno what I'm gonna buy, but I want to snag an RG Exia and maybe an RG Zaku II. On a somewhat related note, I used to lead a clan on Halo 5 called the Principality of Zeon. Now I might bring it back as the Zeonic Front or Neo Zeon.

I just wish there was a fair telling of Zeon's PoV (well for all I know there could be, but so far it's very "feddies are the good gaiz" orientated". Also, why are there alternate universes I.e MSG Wing and Gundam Seed? I could never really get my head around that. I find the U.C universe more compelling, though Wing was my first experience in the MSG world thanks to Cartoon Network when I was little.

Well there are a few Zeon centric works out there. 0080, the first two seasons of Igloo, more than that you have numerous manga such as the Plot to assassinate Gihren Zabi, Char's deleted affair, Thunderbolt is a recent entry that places emphasis on the Zeon perspective. I myself am currently writing a primarily Zeon centric fanfiction set in the early One Year War period of January 0079. While not canon at all I do include plenty of callbacks, references and lore tidbits in the narrative.

I was actually referring to the MSG OVA there. It probably didn't help that the post before mine was talking about both JoJo and Gundam and both have series with Stardust in the title.... But I suppose it does somewhat fit JoJo 3 too. It did become a bit of a mess towards then end. Still I definitely enjoyed it. DiU has been a bit disappointing (not bad, but not as good as I hoped) but is just starting to pick up with, as you say, Kira's entry.

Origin changed a great deal of the early UC lore but I will say this. The basis of the story remains the same.
Deikun dies under mysterious circumstance, the then Republic devolves into infighting and civil war. Much of the old Deikun camp are killed in the following days paving the way towards the Zabi dictatorship, the Principality is formed in the name of solidifying their nation and in efforts to restore order. If you listen to Degwin Zabi anyway, but a lot of the Deikun supporters were killed under his order by Gihren.
The most critical changed element however is the Federation, its presence remains in Side Three far longer in Origin then outside of it. In their timeline the Principality of Zeon isn't formed until around 74, in the standard UC timeline its formed around 69. This was done so they could feature in the Dawn Rebellion, a little military insurrection led by Char, Char is the creator's golden boy and a lot of material is added solely just to be fan wank material to him.

I would love to get it but I already have all the books.

As for more modern anime, it was kind of weird, but I liked Bakemonogatari.

Thinking of Bakemonogatari, this always comes to mind.
Tell me, is it worth watching and is there anything I need to know?

It is worth watching,, hm.. don't take it at first glance, it's not the type to reveal everything about itself in the beginning, it kind of gets to know you bit by bit... then you start to see the bigger picture.
