Sifr That was always my explanation. Glaives and staves and spears are a thing, apostates just pretend they have one of those. Or a walking stick.  And it'd explain why (aside from being evil gits) that those Hinterlands Templars killed that farmer in DAI, because they've become uber-paranoid that anyone carrying anything even remotely stave-ish could be a mage, because so many were waking around in plain sight previously. The one time we see Templar showing any kind of diligence and they accidentally killed the wrong man!  |

I can't think of a single character who made the transition to DAI's engine as well as Isabela did. So many others - Alistair, Cullen, Morrigan, Leliana, Varric, Cassandra, etc. - just look different (not necessarily bad) but Isabela looks just like I'd imagine her four or five years post-Kirkwall. (Default male Hawke also looks just like I'd expect. Default female Hawke.... I miss her cool hair 😭). Man, I really want to see Merrill and Zevran now. 👀 |

I can't think of a single character who made the transition to DAI's engine as well as Isabela did. So many others - Alistair, Cullen, Morrigan, Leliana, Varric, Cassandra, etc. - just look different (not necessarily bad) but Isabela looks just like I'd imagine her four or five years post-Kirkwall. On my last DA2 run, I did an Isabela rivalmance for the first time ever. I had to consult the DA wiki frequently to make it work, I had never gotten her rivalry before -- the exchange that finally gave me 100% rivalry was the absolute last opportunity available for me to get rival points out of her.
I sided with the mages at the end of the game, and where she usually says "Shit. What have you gotten yourself into this time, Isabela?" she said something down the lines of ~'and shove a sword up this bitch's ass? (i.e. Meredith) Absolutely.'
I had logged easily hundreds of hours of this game and had no idea that line from her existed. I was like, "WOWWWW!!!" And it made me really frickin proud, as well!
I didn't expect her rivalry romance path would be so rewarding, but it was great, one of my favorite romance arcs in any/all BW games.
In fact, I am gonna fire up a new DA2 run in-part to do that story again. I am debating doing it live and/or posting videos.

Am I the only one who thinks she's genuinely a bad person? Many people don't know this but she literally drowned elven slaves, including at least one kid and one baby just so she won't get caught by the Orlesians.
I know this is just fiction, but I'm going to treat it with the same weight as I do with the real world.
She didn't went full circle and "redeemed" herself by saving other slaves. No amount of saving other innocent lives can make up for the innocent lives you've taken in my opinion. She's still responsible for the death of an innocent kid, and a baby. She practically murderered them. How can you forgive that? what amount of lives saved is enough to forgive such a thing?
She could've easily let the Orlesians capture her. Yes, she probably would've died, but at least those elves would still be alive, and be servants at the very least, instead of slaves. This is why I'm making giving her to the Arishok as my canon save.

Yes, she probably would've died, but at least those elves would still be alive, and be servants at the very least, instead of slaves. Eh, Orlais has slavery. It is just kept behind closed doors. But that also explains why "orlesians hang slavers". Public relations. |

Yes, she probably would've died, but at least those elves would still be alive, and be servants at the very least, instead of slaves. Eh, Orlais has slavery. It is just kept behind closed doors. But that also explains why "orlesians hang slavers". Public relations. Fiona was slave in Orlais – her master used her as his "pet", and she was only 7... So yes, Orlais pretty much has slavery.

As of late I tried to find a party composition with nobody yelling or being asses to each other. The warriors are especially tough in that regard. Also lets just be honest, she looks exactly like Christina Aguilera in Stripped era, but as a pirate. I'm not knowlegdeable about that.  *does a short search* Hmm. At least Isabela's hair colour is natural. I've got a mod giving her pants anyway.  But honestly the comic just ruined her for me... what do you mean by Bioware's POC slavers / slavery apology? I know there's Dorian, but he just seems indifferent to it. Are there more? Besides Dorian, some also take the whole reveal about the Evanuris as this, given elves are somewhat in between Natives/First Nations (Dalish) and Jews (City elves), besides being a major group out of Andrastianism a.k.a. Not!Christianity.

And the crew she was responsible for would have all been hanged alongside her, so she decided to put her crew's live first over that of the slaves. I'm not denying she's a bad person for having killed those slaves (or y'know, being a pirate in general), but it wasn't just her neck on the line if the Orlesian navy had managed to catch them, it was all the people under her command.
It's not like she didn't hate herself for making that that decision either, we see her regret at doing it and how some of her crew (particularly the elves) couldn't even look her in the eye afterwards. And we know that her regret over this event lead her to free slaves she found on another ship, despite it earning her the ire of Castillon and putting her in debt to him.
