Linguistics. Because real life. Some semblance of first aid training, because I think that's ultimately handy (but haven't really undergone training yet... because I don't know why) And since I'm on the Pathfinder team, definitely brush up my combat skills in a simulator or whatever I have on hand.
After all, they suggest that there will be a soldier, a scientist, and a guide in each team - more likely multiple of each. This means they expect to bump into trouble sooner or later, be it wildlife or other sapient life forms. Why should the scientists and guides not be trained to an extent?

Botany and enough chemical knowledge to make good alcohol out of whatever plant I could use for that. Ryncol will be so last galaxy!

I wouldn't get my hopes up too high on that one. Combat is still going to be one of the most important cornerstones of gameplay in ME:A, so I very much doubt we'll be able to play a straight up scientist.
It would be nice though, if we could invest in some science-specialization perks or something like that, that may unlock special conversation options, interrupts, environmental interaction opportunities and the like. I'd appreciate that a lot.

On the last point, I think they mentioned somewhere some non-combat skills that might unlock different dialogue options, hopefully not in the same way Inquisition dealed with it.

Xeno-archaeology! Jeanne-Luc Ryder's gonna be real excited about ancient alien statues, tools, masonry and the like. She donated her small collection of Raloi figurines to a Citadel museum before setting out for Andromeda, out of a sense of propriety - she didn't feel it would be right for her to risk them on such a perilous voyage, and her luggage allocation was limited anyway - but she's eager to uncover what artefacts she can of the ancient civilisations of the Heleus Cluster!

I'd appreciate that a lot. Me too, that's one thing I liked a lot from DAI, those extra options are great for rp. I always unlock archane knowledge as soon as I can, just for RP, because it's not like it's particularly useful:lol: If I could pick, I'd probably go with medicine, or maybe biology. If the story allows me to think of my character not purely as a warrior or a soldier like with Shepard, which I usually prefer, I always think of them as healers /doctors (of course, I'm usually the healer in the party), sometime hunters

I really wouldn't read too much into what was said in any of the videos or even what BioWare says directly for we don't have a frame of reference to their comments. I can think of a few different ways that could play out, but I don't want go into the game expecting something based on a sentence in marketing content that could be taken from a completely different context in the game itself.

Astrophysics maybe, though anything related to medicine sounds like it could also be useful in gameplay. If our characters have a science background I'm sort of disappointed that the male version won't be voiced by Jeff Goldblum. In The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension! he played Dr. Buckaroo Banzai, a physicist, neurosurgeon, test pilot, and rock star who saves the world from an alien invasion.

I'll go with the trifecta of anthropology/sociology/psychology. I'd like the character to be able to get a measure of an alien race or factions' values and customs after only a brief observation of their interactions with one another. Against a faction that respects strength, they would adopt a more aggressive tactic; against a wary and reclusive group, they would opt for more gentle negotiations.
After all, there's nothing more cerebral than the ability to get inside the mind of another.

I'd appreciate that a lot. We actually had a tweet in the last two days or so that confirmed non-combat skill options in this game. (Later, when I'm not eating and maybe feel more inclined, I may track it down and edit it into this post.) It can be found in the Twitter thread, for those curious. I can't remember everything said, but I do recall specifically that some skills would enhance "scanning and identification abilities", more or less. Other skills mentioned were in a similar vein. Those sound somewhat in the wheelhouse of what Lady Artifice is proposing, at least in the sense of better enabling the "cerebral explorer" RP.

Well, regardless of the brand of scientist the character is, the important thing is that they carry themselves like one. When confronted with a problem, they should make sure to gather up as much relevant data as they can and examine the scenario from multiple fronts rather than just diving in guns blazing. It would make the situations in which they did act emotionally and impulsively that much more impactful.
