It gets a bit annoying that it seems like female characters in game have to be able to qualify among the top 1% beautiful people to not be considered ugly or "a man". While women like attractive LI too, the male characters rarely have to put up with the same level of scrutiny. I don't agree. Most males in video games are rather conventionally attractive. I think the male leads are often conventionally attractive. However, there are also other male companions who look more alien or robotic, such as Legion, Wrex, Grunt, and Javik. Unfortunately, this isn't the case with the female companions in ME who so far always have to look sexy even if they are a robot or are alien.

I'm not against varied characters, if it works, I'm oookkk with it.

I'm not against varied characters, if it works, I'm oookkk with it. The thing is, regarding quadmates: ME1: 1 hot guy vs 2 hot girlsGarrus (not created to be sexy) Wrex (not created to be sexy) Kaidan (created to be sexy) Liara (created to be sexy) Ash (created to be sexy) Tali (not created to be sexy) ME2: 3 guys (among seven) hot vs 5 girls (ALL OF THEM) hotJacob (created to be sexy) Zaeed (not created to be sexy) Grunt (not created to be sexy) Legion (not created to be sexy) Thane (created to be sexy) Garrus (created to be sexy? I don't know, they put him in hard armor in order to make him bigger? I don't know, I can't be impartial, I LOVE HIM!!!) Mordin (not created to be sexy) Miranda (created to be sexy) Samara (created to be sexy) Tali (created to be sexy? They make her more curvy) Jack (created to be sexy) Kasumi (created to be sexy) ME3: 3 guys hot (among four) vs 4 girls hot (ALL OF THEM)Vega (hot status) Kaidan (hot status) Javik (not created to be sexy) Garrus (hot status) Liara (hot status) Ash (hot status) Tali (hot status) EDI (hot status) So here's the thing: Male characters don't tend to be created to be sexy just for the sake of it (with Vega exception). Sexy male characters are sexy (or sexyfied) if they are love interests. Some of them are argueable (Garrus is not the cup of tea of everybody their loss) Female characters are almost always created to be sexy, despite of they are love interests or not. IMHO, the key is variety and sometimes you don't need to design a character as hot in order to be hot. That's pretty personal: take Zaeed or Javik for example. I found them pretty attractive. I big part of their hotness is they seem designed to show their personalities first. The same happened to me with Garrus. I liked Garrus as a character and I find his design sexy even when he wasn't designed with that intention or precisely for that. That's why I like MEA Tomb-robber Asari design. I don't know if she is romanceable or not, but her design show me a lot of her personality and if I like her I won't have problems to find her sexy.

Sorry if it seems I was referring personally to you (something pretty normal to assumed because I quoted you! ). I was using your previous conversation as an anchor. I read from other people strange things like women can feel attraction for ugly men because of biology or something like that, but men can't. We are super cool

I believe that 99% of the people complaining about her looks right now, are going to end up romancing her in the game.

The only thing I notice in this thread is that people have different opinions, but people that don't like her are trying to push their own agenda, claiming she is awful. Male jaw, "unusual asari features" and stuff like that. It's completely ridiculous. Asari were created as blue alien babes and are already pandering to mostly male population of gamers, they tried to create a different facial structure, "OMG IT'S CASSANDRA ALL OVER AGAIN".
I wish BioWare leave her as she is, and not touch her looks at all. After all, she is ONE asari in the whole game we have seen. Go to a club and look at strippers, perverts (meant in game, when it releases)

Confirmed are the Asari, Krogans and Salarians. The latter two are out of the picture, from a romance pov, imo. I get the feeling that the young looking Asari is not created form the standard "cookie-cutter character creator". This is good. Flynn mentioned Mass Effect: Andromeda, gave the studio the opportunity to write the story they wanted to tell. I see this reflected in the Asari. The Asari being romanceable.....to early to tell, imo

Dis. It seems that a lot of female characters have been... not attractive to me, in Bioware games, as of late. While I loved Cassandra in DA2, I felt they worked too hard to make her SUPAH STRONG FEMAYL WARRUR in DAI, making cheekbones more pronounced, making her seem altogether more 'angular', I suppose? Sara had... issues, and Josie just was kinda there. Even SWTOR removed most female (and male, to be fair) love interests during their KotFE expansion, and as sucky as Koth is, Lana's 'redesign' just makes her look... slightly off, to me. This new Asari, I feel, will have a fun and bombastic personality, and I actually like her outfit (she seems more Lara Croft than Ashley Williams), but I do feel that her facial shape could be tweeked, primarily her jawline and cheekbones. Her 'eyebrows' don't bother me, and for the most part, I just expect them to appear to be the grease paint she uses, all said and done. Do you count Samara in your cheekbones/pronunced jawline aversion? What is beautiful and what is not is pretty subjective. I find Cassandra design pretty attractive and Natalie Dormer and her particular face is the most attractive woman in the world. I liked Samara, actually. Overall, at least, a few nitpicky issues, but I liked her enough that I was happy to have her in the squad; granted, by romancing Liara then Miranda then Jack then Tali, in that order, I never felt compelled to persue the quasimance with her, no do I feel compelled to do so at another point. She was not attractive for me, either in personality or looks, to hold a candle to some of the other characters. Personal opinion, sure, to each their own. I liked DA2 Cass, just feel they aged her and hardened her big time from DA2 to DAI. I understand others like her, but as I said, I find them less attractive than what they used to "make," so to speak. However, my original point is that I feel a trend, that Bioware has made less traditionally attractive female romantic interests, as of late. While I am hardly saying every female needs to pertain to these classic trends, I merely wish there may be more options. All IMHO and such.

The more I think about this Asari, the more I believe we will be able to romance her. If she's not romanceable, well okay I'm sure she's not the only option.

Didn't a research showed about 40% os bioware players were female? I think "male gamers tend to complain more about this" would be more correct. This thread was started by a female complaining about people complaining about new Asari. It's a lot of complaining by everyone. Also if we are taking Inquisition for an example here, well I have to say that ladies had more variety in that game. Thus the complaints from male gamers. I'm not saying we are not whining too much, but I can understand why people do that. It's like telling someone to shut up about hairstyles in Mass Effect. Hey, I wasn't complaining, I was curious . Because if with Cassandra and Solas I can somewhat understand people finding them manly/ugly (I don't agree, but I get it), but here I was very confused. This asari might not be a sex bomb, but she is rather cute imo. Well, different tastes and all...

So far, I have only two issues with the Asari appearance.
1) The eyebrows: There was not a single Asari in the entire MEU that had eyebrows, so it goes against the design for the race. 2) The outfit: If that is just a temporary outfit and/or her off-duty attire, I'm with with it. However, I have issues with it if it is her permanent field gear since it does not make sense.

Why is it always an asari who plays the nerdy expert on extinct race scholar role Salarians are smarter. Salarian sit on egg clutches. In contrast Asari continue to be fabulous in any situation.

i am really bored of how beautifull most npcs are or must be. Real life people come in all sizes and appearances. It is immersion breaking in mass effect games and dragon age that overweight people are non existant, also the same height. I actually appreciated in DAI the editor did not necessarily made beautiful looking people even if it was just bad game design from bioware's part. With that said i REALLY DIG THAT ASARI. she looks gorgeous not from a pure beauty sense but from an aesthetic and body language pov. that liitle one leg tripping she did = insta love
