When we first saw the Asari she was awful (because of the manly strong jaw), now that they obviously took the hate to heart (or was planning to fix it anyways) got rid of the strong jaw. Now I personally like the uniqueness of the characters design (except for a shown stomach in hazardous enviroments for immersion & environmental setting reasons).

If you're talking about first look then she is shrek.



This isn't that bad though.

So is the human guy. Just bad design, period...for this engine at least. edit: same goes for female in the earlier trailer. Just looks like DAI.

Yeah, I don't mind the gear either.. I mean, I'm an ME2 fan, after all.

But I don't like the cartoonishness, as you said. And it's not just her.

Her color scheme looks like a mixture between purple and blue: both of which are asari colors. While I'm saying a mixture, it could as easily be blue or pink, possibly lilac.

Her crest marking is similar to Samara's although hers is lighter in color, is less scaly and has the addition of stripes to it. Samara and Morinth show that creast markings can be very unusual from asari to asari. I see no difference between her headcrest and the headcrests of previous asari we've seen. If you can, would you mind elaborating?

Her "clearly male features" is either a facial shape called oval or or a facial shape called oblong. Her nose shape is called a button nose.

We don't know why she wears facial paint.

We've seen asari that would not be considered conventionally beautiful and would be considered average sometimes even at best during the original trilogy. Tha lore bit was challenged even then.

Would you mind linking me the codex entry or wherever that information is stated, please? I was unable to find it.

Yeah, the suspected eyebrows would count as a redesigned if it turns out they are actually real. The reason I'm reserving judgement is because we only have that one short footage of her and I've noticed that Liara has shots where it could be difficult to tell whether or not her eyebrows were real or fake.

I wouldn't be altogether upset by this since eyebrows are believed to serve a purpose similar to eyelashes that the asari race would face.

Asari have eyelashes which are used to protect the eye from debris and perform similar functions to whiskers: their sensitivity provides a warning that something is near the eye and so the eye closes reflexively. Eyebrows are hypothesized to have been developed to prevent sweat, water and such debris from falling into the eyesocket. It could make sense that the asari developed the same feature for the same purpose. For communication and facial expression purpose, less so.
 
Seriously, does my country just have an unusually diverse population in terms of facial features? These facial features are not even that uncommon in my country. Is it elsewhere? Is that why I do not understand people's reactions?

Man, some people are taking the characters/races in the new engine really hard. And even suggesting she doesn't look like an asari, crazy. All of the asari features are there. She doesn't have a male jaw, the camera angle and her smug pose is probably making the illusion. 

Alien races WILL have different head/face structures and shapes, thank god, since that's how BioWare even imagined them first but because of time/engine constraints they didn't do it in Unreal 3, I believe I read this somewhere when they discussed the aliens, or what they plan to do with them in the new game. 

Because she can't pull of the Furiosa look... and because eyebrows.

Its like Cassandra all over again. People.......people never change.

The only thing related to Cassandra is the engine to me.

And even then, Cass is one of the few that didn't suffer the cartoon-ish look that some NPCs got. And what MEA seems rife with.

I'm talking about the pre-release outrage about how manly and ugly she looks etc. 

I'm not sure about face paint but other than that I think she looks fine.

I don't know, from the small amount we've seen of her she looks fine to me. The face paint is unusual I guess?
