Looked much better in the last video, except for the outrageous bare tummy which just kills all immersion.

Couldn't the subtle differences we see in the asari's face and head be more simply explained? Perhaps she has a father whose DNA altered the common morphology of cross-bred asari. Ugly, you say? Adm. Hackett, perhaps? There is a really simple explanation and a better reasonable i believe: Bioware is paying more attention at making different alien face models to make them look more unique instead of just "face clones" from each other (like most krogans share the same face in the previous trilogy).

Nah dawg, she ugly as hell. So is the human guy. Just bad design, period...for this engine at least. edit: same goes for female in the earlier trailer. Just looks like DAI. I will be making a custom facial design for my FemRyder; a little cosmetic surgery on her bulbous nose. The new asari looks fine to me, although my first reaction was "What have they DONE!?!" Once we find her personality amusing, her looks won't matter.

The words "androgyny" and "mono-gendered" come to my mind when looking at her.
Does she seem ugly to me? Not really. For lack of a better term, she seems quirky. I am fine with quirky.

I've been seeing this everywhere - complaints that our new asari is ugly. Please explain this to me, because I honestly don't see it. I think she is very cute. How is she ugly? She is not ugly. Some people just LOVE to complain. This, people are ALWAYS COMPLAINING. Nothing is ever good enough, sometimes I think if there was a warning: " If you complain about this, you are going to be punched in the face until you lose all your teeth... ", people wouldn't complain at all.

That seems like a good way to put it. And since Asari are mono-gendered, it stands to reason that they would have a diverse range of physical appearances, ranging from both stereotypically 'feminine' through to a more androgynous look. If your romantic partners can be of any gender, why bother (genetically) catering to the stereotypical desires of just one?

Russian community has potted an uncanny resemblance to Khovansky, a known Russian videoblogger. You probably don't want to click the spoiler, cannot unsee now, argh. The new Bioware. This work of fiction designed, developed, and produced by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities, united by one idea - hate for white males and pretty women.

She look a lot better compared to when we first saw her. Her looks really doesn't bother me either way. To be honest I never found the Asari to be all that attractive. As long as the human female love interest, for broryder is attractive i'm good.

I welcome change. There was already one Liara, no need for another. I wouldn't mind an asari companion who i find attractive, but about the personality i agree. Dis. It seems that a lot of female characters have been... not attractive to me, in Bioware games, as of late. While I loved Cassandra in DA2, I felt they worked too hard to make her SUPAH STRONG FEMAYL WARRUR in DAI, making cheekbones more pronounced, making her seem altogether more 'angular', I suppose? Sara had... issues, and Josie just was kinda there. Even SWTOR removed most female (and male, to be fair) love interests during their KotFE expansion, and as sucky as Koth is, Lana's 'redesign' just makes her look... slightly off, to me. This new Asari, I feel, will have a fun and bombastic personality, and I actually like her outfit (she seems more Lara Croft than Ashley Williams), but I do feel that her facial shape could be tweeked, primarily her jawline and cheekbones. Her 'eyebrows' don't bother me, and for the most part, I just expect them to appear to be the grease paint she uses, all said and done.

She has a nice voice at least . I think it's about her looking less 'ideal' than most Asari. For some she is more ugly this way, for others more cute, she just looks diffrent than your standard classically beautiful Asari. Is this bad? Depends if they retconed whole species or she just looks a little diffrent. Look, if this particular Asari looks in a less ideal way, that's fine. But if they changed a general disgn of this race, that would be bad.

Do you count Samara in your cheekbones/pronunced jawline aversion? What is beautiful and what is not is pretty subjective. I find Cassandra design pretty attractive and Natalie Dormer and her particular face is the most attractive woman in the world.

She looks good to me. I mean, she looked a bit off in that animation demo, but now that we get a proper shot of her she looks fine. Though she could probably get prettier some face paint if she wanted.
But then I tend to think Cassandra is about the best looking Bioware character ever (excluding some 2d portraits, maybe) so maybe I'm just weird.

"Bioware is pushing an agenda!" But they do push an agenda, they certainly did in DA:I, a series of changes to accommodate the current political correctness movement. First and foremost of course, BW is part of a corporation that is aimed at making money, however, that doesn't mean that they can't have secondary agendas, especially considering that some of their developers are at the very least equally skilled and enthusiastic at tweeting their social justice agenda, as they are at developing video games. And I'm saying this despite the fact that I disliked the shallow and over the top style of ME2's butt shots and catsuits. I just don't want to see an agenda driven whiplash to the opposite direction. My point is, IMO Hamburglar girl is looks okay I guess, nothing to write home about and perhaps a little weird. (she certainly isn't Natalie Dormer, not even close...) But I wouldn't put it past BW at this point to make these decisions as part of an agenda, and I don't want to see agenda in my entertainment. (and agenda in this case would be the things I quoted from your original post, meaning to preach about variety of female facial features, etc. disregarding that males are judged just as harshly for certain attributes by females, it's all about what each gender finds attractive) These things (visual character design) should be considered strictly in regards to the plot, the world, the character, the overall immersion, and finally the fun factor. Hopefully ME:A will be like that.
When I say agenda in this case, I'm not referring to pushing notions of political correctness and such: I'm referring to the agendas where people accuse Bioware of such agendas like intentionally making every female character in a game ugly and then basing this claim on the appearance of two characters (the asari and default femRyder). Agendas that I don't see as making a whole lot of sense.
I can see the reason behind the claims of a political correctness agenda being pushed and being pushed too far so this isn't me saying that all claims of agendas are without merit or that there is no such thing as agendas in the industry: I just see some claims of agendas being on par with really silly conspiracy theories especially when the supposed evidence is what I've mentioned above. What separates the claims of a politically correctness agenda and the first mentioned claims of an agenda is the evidence presented.
It's also wierd to see this agenda accusation leveled at the Mass Effect team of all the teams since they did things like those shots of Miranda, gave EDI a uniform that featured a camel toe and admitted to changing Ashley's appearance in Mass Effect 3 just to make her look sexier (even though the change didn't fit her character nor was it due to character development). It's kind of wierd to see people jumping to the conclusion that they were legitimately and intentionally going to make every female character ugly.
Also, the Natalie Dormer thing was just to emphasis my point that those facial traits did not a masculine face make.

You find DAI's Cassandra more attractive than DAI's Leliana? I never found Leliana to be attractive but then my interest does tend to be influenced by how much I like the characterization of a character. Don't know why I never found Leliana interesting as a character, though.
