She looks good to me. I mean, she looked a bit off in that animation demo, but now that we get a proper shot of her she looks fine. Though she could probably get prettier some face paint if she wanted. But then I tend to think Cassandra is about the best looking Bioware character ever (excluding some 2d portraits, maybe) so maybe I'm just weird. You find DAI's Cassandra more attractive than DAI's Leliana? Yes. Though some of that's probably the hood, which I really dislike and seems to make her look weirdly gaunt sometimes.

Couldn't the subtle differences we see in the asari's face and head be more simply explained? Perhaps she has a father whose DNA altered the common morphology of cross-bred asari. Ugly, you say? Adm. Hackett, perhaps? I'll be honest and say that I really wouldn't care for that change in asari lore. Asari don't take genetic material from their partner because that's not how their reproduction works and I don't see why that would need to change: it would basically be a pointless retcon, in my opinion.
Aethyta's comment about believing asari did inherit something from their non-asari parent because she herself had krogan-like tendencies always seemed kind of dumbass to me: unlike a lot of asari with non-asari parents, her father was a krogan and so he was around in her life from childhood and even into her Maiden stage. Due to this, it's far more likely that she developed krogan-like tendencies because he was around to influence her as oppose to her having them because of genes. I'm thinking Aethyta slept through sex ed in asari school.

She has a nice voice at least . I think it's about her looking less 'ideal' than most Asari. For some she is more ugly this way, for others more cute, she just looks diffrent than your standard classically beautiful Asari. Is this bad? Depends if they retconed whole species or she just looks a little diffrent. Look, if this particular Asari looks in a less ideal way, that's fine. But if they changed a general disgn of this race, that would be bad. I think this is why some people are kind of iffy about her design. If she was human, I think it wouldn't be a problem. I hope at least. But because she is Asari people are judging her more . Yet, every race has different looking people. Not every Asari has to look like Liara to fit into race. I understand people saying she should look "better", but maybe they tried to make her look teenager-ish and to show, through her features, her character more. Distinct look creates character that stands out more. I think they wanted to make her look less bland and I doubt they will change Asari general design. More typical Asari would probably look more like : Is it better? I think it's all opinions after all. Not everyone has to look like a model to be considered pretty. She has her own charm, so I think we are fine here.

I think that she's very young. Very young asari can have star foreheads and eyebrows. If you take a look Liara in some of her shots, you can still slightly see the starry forehead. The eyebrows are just something from childhood that they have nostalgia for. They fall out, given time. I don't know that all this for a fact, I just know that it's all true. I have to second bshep on this and add that I haven't read, seen or heard this.

I can see how not everyone thinks the new Asari is super beautiful but ugly is taking it too far, at worst her face is average or plain.
I would prefer it if she doesn't have eyebrows but it's not a deal-breaker for me - I actually like her racoon stripe. I can't really tell if she has eyebrows or not. The first image we received it does look like she has them but in the new video it looks more like they face-paint gives the illusion of eyebrows.
It gets a bit annoying that it seems like female characters in game have to be able to qualify among the top 1% beautiful people to not be considered ugly or "a man". While women like attractive LI too, the male characters rarely have to put up with the same level of scrutiny.

And I mean, not to say that it doesn't go both ways, I like to play as an attractive badass lady if I can help it.

A lot are, but there is more variety and when they aren't outstandingly attractive there isn't the same level of outcry - the amount of threads and comments about Cassandra, Sera and now this Asari... is there any male character that's suffered as much blowback because they're not handsome enough? Some people didn't like that Solas was bald or that the Iron Bull had weird proportions but it didn't escalate to the level of vitrol as with the previously mentioned female characters. I love Solas and Iron Bull but neither are what I would call conventionally attractive, Blackwall with his beard isn't really conventionally attractive either (though people can still find them attractive because taste is subjective). I've seen a lot of people mention they found Leliana beautiful in DAO but I remember reading a comment by Gaider that people complained about her appearance, too - said she had "fish lips"- so this is hardly new. It's fine if you don't think Cassandra, Sera or the new Asari attractive or beautiful. I just dislike it when people go 'not attractive to me=looks like a man' and spew vitrol over it - it gets tiring really quick.

Didn't a research showed about 40% os bioware players were female?
I think "male gamers tend to complain more about this" would be more correct.

This thread was started by a female complaining about people complaining about new Asari. It's a lot of complaining by everyone. Also if we are taking Inquisition for an example here, well I have to say that ladies had more variety in that game. Thus the complaints from male gamers. I'm not saying we are not whining too much, but I can understand why people do that. It's like telling someone to shut up about hairstyles in Mass Effect.

She has her own charm, so I think we are fine here. Personally, I was ok with her in the last ps4 pro trailer and I hope that she will be an interesting charachter both as LI and as a crew member. But there were people on official BW forum who saw the appearence of this asari as a sign of total redesign of their race and "getting rid of stupid fanservice space babes"- that's the issue which concerns me.

I think it's a little premature to be saying that such a change (if it occurred) would be a "needless retcon" when we don't yet know the story being presented in ME:A... just as it's a little premature for people to be judging the change in appearance as being due to a specific agenda being pushed by Bioware. Why this particular "asari" appears different may still be an integral part of the story itself. We'll know more after the game is released... and THEN people will be in a better position to more fairly judge whether or not the changes suit the story.

I think this level of outcry happens because most gamers tend to be men. But I agree, we shouldn't freak out too much, but a little more sexy won't hurt Maybe. I'm not against having pretty people in games, it's appreciated by both genders I think, but variety should be allowed.
