She doesn't have eyebrows, it's face paint. Like both Liara and Aria had.

Do they plan to get rid of the eyebrows I wonder I still hold to my theory that it's paint like Liara's were.

Aside from the racoon paint she looks handsome. Don't know in the first trailer she looked awful but in the last one we saw a couple of days ago she is quite nice. I'm ok with her.

So, in 600 years the Asari have either 1) learned to paint on realistic looking eyebrows 2) have evolved to have eyebrows... perhaps through learning how to actually take some DNA from their father species donors. Personally, I find the latter possibility intriguing... who's her daddy?

I think she's cute. This whole 'how would women like it if they were expected to romance an ugly dude' thing doesn't really carry for me since I banged the space raptor in ME2/3 and half his face was shot off so...
Regardless, I like her design. It's showcasing different and realistic female facial forms (rather like Aria's strong features) and is moving away from some of the more... generically attractive facial shapes the asari had in the original trilogy. I love Liara, but her face is just so... bland. Sweet and cute, but bland.
Edit: I also dig the outfit. It's very trendy and I want it.

<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> The cartoonish Ninja Turtle look, for one. But, if she was designed with more feminine characteristics, we'd get complaints from the puritanical. A sartorial outfit showing a bit more skin and this board would light up in outrage. Interesting that Rihanna's recent racy dress at the CFA awards failed to generate negative backlash. Spoiler image is NSFW. As this thread is about how ugly she is/was, compared to Liara, she is plain Jane. Compared to the behind the scenes look, an improvement. I agree, with many, that the landing party must wear the appropriate outfit (armour/environmental) for the mission. However, I believe that civilians in the squad can wear what they want in non lethal environments and in non combat zones. Thus, if the game allows me the freedom to explore planets of my choosing at any point between missions, I and my team should be given the freedom to put on what we want.... especially if I take my LI to a beach or go shopping somewhere. C'omon, you gotta let your hair down sometimes.

She has a nice voice at least . I think it's about her looking less 'ideal' than most Asari. For some she is more ugly this way, for others more cute, she just looks diffrent than your standard classically beautiful Asari. Is this bad? Depends if they retconed whole species or she just looks a little diffrent.

There was also a whole lot of insistance in the threads that the asari was clearly a man (not always as a joke, some people actually thought this) and that Bioware was redesigning the entire asari race to fit the agenda. Yes, I remember all that. See, I can understand people just not liking her, or finding her unattractive - everyone have different tastes after all. But ugly and manly? She does look a bit like Dormer, which I have seen being called ugly as well... On one thing I will agree - the facepaint is weird. Eyebrows don't bother me at all.

There are all kinds of people in the world. I just think that they are getting away from the traditionally defined beauty of European women as their standard for asari. Long faces, sharp features, etc. There are plenty of women who look this way in Europe however. But they aren't defined as beautiful.
I think the eye paint on her makes her more mysterious. Something for us to latch on to. It'll prolly be explained off in a two line dialogue exchange. But just by it being there, it makes her more mysterious.

The eyebrows look like eyebrows to me. If you zoom in on some pics you can see the individual hairs, not that I'm bothered. The face paint made me think of Pris from Blade Runner rather than Furiosa. Pris is young and playful but also extremely dangerous. Not sure if they'll go that route here but it would be interesting. And I don't get the whole 'ugly' thing at all. She's not ugly, just not the usual, bland videogame attractive we're used to.

I think that she's very young. Very young asari can have star foreheads and eyebrows. If you take a look Liara in some of her shots, you can still slightly see the starry forehead. The eyebrows are just something from childhood that they have nostalgia for. They fall out, given time.
I don't know that all this for a fact, I just know that it's all true.

What makes my brain swell about this issue is that what she looks like is largely irrelevant, unless they're gonna be selling this character as Uber Space Seductress she could look like a jackboot and it wouldn't detract from her broader character.

I'll give you a few insights into the discussions using ZipZap2000 and my back and forth on it. Note that this was on the old forums so I had to try and refit the format. ZipZap2000 was one of the people who elaborated. ZipZap2000 said: "Just goes to show how important it is that they get this right. The "Asari squad mate" is right up there with "Make sure the ending doesn't suck."Oh, I completely disagree. ZipZap2000 said: " It doesn't look like an Asari and its not just her face. Her crest is different when she turns her head."Her crest looks the same to me when I tried to see it and compare it to the crest of other asari. Can you elaborate on what you mean? ZipZap2000 said: "I'm genuinely questioning if it is an actual Asari. Or something we'll have to have explained to us more thoroughly."She has the crest of an asari and her skin is shades of the colors commonly exhibited by the asari. She looks like an asari to me. I believe we've even seen asari with her facial shape in the trilogy; The only thing I can see that would be odd, besides the eyebrows if they turn out to be real, would be the seeming lack of scale-like texture on her skin as asari's non-crest skin supposedly has that. I'm saying supposedly because I believe that the racial characteristic was either inconsistent throughout the trilogy or disappeared over time. Couldn't the subtle differences we see in the asari's face and head be more simply explained? Perhaps she has a father whose DNA altered the common morphology of cross-bred asari. Ugly, you say? Adm. Hackett, perhaps?

I think she's cute. Snip Edit: I also dig the outfit. It's very trendy and I want it. I think it's simple enough for someone to make a cosplay outfit to wear at a convention. Anyone around here know a talented costume designer?
