Ian S. Frazier @tibermoon @kr__96 @gamedammeister @bforbrownies Apologies, I misspoke. Not necessarily a human gene. Just an unusual recessive gene from an ancestor.

They have eyelashes so they do have hair, it's just a very recessive gene to have hair beyond those.

So, I have minimal interest in Peebee for now, but I do want to talk about the eyebrows. It's still not necessary for the asari to "take" DNA from the father. Alterations in genotype (and phenotype) from mother to daughter is due to mutation (and similarities presumably to inheritance of unchanged genes). Based on the lore, it seems the mother doesn't need to actually assimilate genes from the "father" to create offspring with a different genotype. All she needs is to undergo neural space magic that somehow stimulates random mutations (splicing, random crossovers, point mutations, what have you) in the chromosomes of the gametes that will ultimately develop into the daughter. Perhaps the manner in which melding takes place with vorcha has a tendency to occur the same way across asari and therefore has a tendency to cause the same or similar mutations. Same thing with melding with krogan, perhaps the space magic causes mutations that result in the individual being more aggressive.
With Peebee, my assumption is an asari/human pairing resulted in a mutation that coincidentally (extremely coincidentally) resulted in a hairy eyebrow phenotype. But the asari are still 100% asari.
Edit: I did type this up before the Twitter correction.

Honestly, one of the better explanations I've ever seen for this piece of lore, and people have tried to explain it a lot. As for Peebee, they confirmed it wasn't human/asari later on twitter, so maybe she's got a quarian in the line? Or some other mammal.

I wonder if we'll be able to tease her about it... "You're almost human!", "Have you tried shaving them?", "Do you define them?". Maybe that's mean... Maybe it's a sensitive topic and we'll only know more about it if we get closer to her

I'm personally a little confused, and highly interested in this supposed human in Peebee's ancestry. Humans haven't been around that long in the Milky Way's galactic civilization, and Peebee is about Liara's age. she would've been born already when Humanity joins galactic civilization.

Or it's possible that it might be a recessive trait among the asari. After all, humans evolve slowly and differently over the centuries. We're on average taller than our ancestors, some hair and eye colors are rarer, even our jaws are getting smaller, which is why we have problems with "wisdom teeth" later in life.
So maybe Peebee inherited a trait that was common in earlier asari times that had been kind of thrown by the wayside by biology the past few centuries?
That also brings up something I've been meaning to put out as a potential discussion point, her "brushmark" marking over her eyes. I've been wondering if there was going to be a reasoning why she chose that kind of marking, and now I'm wondering if this maybe answers it -- maybe she got teased mercilessly as a child and she uses that marking as a way of obscuring it?

You got a point there. Her stripe could be because of getting bullied about the eyebrows. Her personality definitely comes off to me as very common with people who were bullied or abused as kids, me included. The rationale is: if you push people away and just be a loner, then you don't risk getting too close and getting hurt. And if you're very open about being weird, then it comes off as being proud of it so people won't feel the need to try to tear you down over being different. At least, that's the impression I'm getting from her, from both my own experiences and friends' experiences. I hope it's not just me pulling something out of my ass.

Even said that they would show her boobs in a romance scene for one of them, but not the other. I can't find the source now. But to prove that she'll be romanceable at least, there you go:

Should have just admitted it's for gameplay purposes. There isn't really a lore justification for this. Recessive gene from an ancestor? If Asari once had eyebrows, what would have been the reason that trait was bred out? Unless it was a random mutation that never gained competitive traction. Asari evolution is a bit of a mess anyway. I wonder if they'll address it at all.
I still think they just did it to make her more expressive, but w/e.

I think it is reasonable that the marking is to hide the eyebrows a bit, but what makes me unsure of this is that on the VGA gameplay trailer, you can see 2 asari that seem to have Peebee's making on their face, like they are part of some group or something. So I wondered about that, it's hard too see and I'm on mobile now but I can track the seconds they appear later and edit this post. EDIT - Here are the photos:

I strongly doubt she won't. To put in more defined terms: the vast majority of players in the trilogy played as MaleShep, and the vast majority romanced Liara, an asari. I wouldn't bet the devs would remove what most players seem interested in.
