I tried that one time with Shepard and it was a death end. 

I mean, has an Ardat Yakshi ever tried just... not mind-melding? What I'm saying is that it's plausible to have sex in other ways. Unless that also kicks in their powers? I don't know.

It probably says something about me that I've thought about this before, but I always kinda figured that asari do meld automatically as part of, well, climax, it's that an experienced asari can choose how deep it will be and, of course, choose if this meld will create a child.

Do you think PeeBee will be one of these characters where the romance is serious or not depending on choices?

That would make sense considering what we know of her character and what her VA said about how she fits into the team in time. It could start off as something inconsequential and either end there or develop as she feels more at home on the Tempest...

For peebee I think there will be a point where you can break it off and consider it a fling or continue and say you want a serious relationship.

As for the Asari why don't they just choose not to embrace eternity when intimate? Hmm, welp, I've seen some fanfic writers play around with this, some imagine they need it, that's how they get off/adds a deeper bond of intimacy. They're aliens afterall, they shouldn't be completely like humans when it comes to sex. Anthropocentric bag of dicks.
