Reading a russian translation. Combat gameplay is likened to something called "Vanquish" from Platinum Games.
Looks like there are some story spoilers.

Combat gameplay is likened to something called "Vanquish" from Platinum Games. Fun game. Definitely way faster than Bioware is used to, so I doubt it'll be as balls-to-the-wall as Vanquish was, but it's still interesting to hear.

There's some interesting bits of info, as well as revealing some old and new powers for the MP(probably on SP as well).

Thanks for the link. Multiplayer seems fun, but I'm still wary about how much they emphasize merging multiplayer tactics into single player gameplay. They mentioned how they want to minimize micromanagement (try saying that 3x fast), but I enjoyed that aspect of the previous games' combat.
Playing through the trilogy again, and I still like to bring up the wheel to map out the best abilities to use for any given situation, planning ability detonations, etc. I know they said they want to speed up combat, but at least having the choice to use the ability wheel would be nice.
That said, I'm not too upset about it. This isn't a game in a genre like DAI, where I highly protested the decision to remove abilities from the radial wheel and the tactics menu altogether. Mass Effect is more naturally action oriented, so I'll try to remain open minded.
Edit: this quote made me laugh:
Haha. I think people are more worried about this being similar to DAI more than anything else.

Combat reminiscent of Vanquish?? Huh. OK. I never played that game (the demo though I THINK) but I know it was fast-paced. So that sounds good actually. DAI combat while overloaded with special effects was kind of sluggish. And I didn't like that.
I'm slightly confused though. I thought Bioware was copying Halo this time? *g*

New info: We can only move our squadmates to positions. We can no longer tell them what abilities to use :/
I don't like Vanquish. Like Kingdom's of Amalur I understand to some gamers there's a sensibility for that kind of playstyle but for me it's too cartoony and over the top to really feel grounded enough. I prefer blood-pumping action but the kind that has enough sense of weight and friction to feel believable for human beings to do (in a stylized reality).
Other info: Mac says when you land there'll be a starting area with NPCs who can tell you about what the story of the planet is. Yay, more DA:I comparisons to be had.
More: Mike Gamble talks about the Dialogue Wheel and the removal of Paragon/Renegade, and claims they're trying to make it feel more realistic which is cool, but then he goes on and says they're keeping it under wraps because they're not locked down on it yet... Say what!? Is this game really coming out spring next year? Is this game really "very much in the final stages of development"? Is this undergoing "polish polish polish" as Mac said way back in summer? I think not.
Who the hell though it was a good idea to put Mac, the messiest kind of person, in charge of directing this game? It sounds like they're scrambling their way towards a good concept to me.

Kingdom of Amalur had super fun gameplay! I played it for 70 hours. Liked the art style too. Story was kind of meh. But overall a good game.
There was nothing realistic about how OP biotics were in ME3. Which is the reason it was so much FUN. Gimme more of that!
DA2 was the most cartoonish-looking game of that franchise and imo had the most fun combat once I got over the anime shock and how the darkspawn and Flemeth looked. Maybe MEA combat will be fine after all if that's a pattern.

Oh! I did like the gameplay on Vanquish. Very fast-paced, non-stop shooting, lots of movement. If they can ace the companion Ai (ME:3 did a real good job) then we'll be good to go. Not going to read the article though. I don't wish to spoil myself too much.

I think people are more worried about this being similar to DAI more than anything else. I would be thrilled if it was DA I with better sidequests, but I'm not expecting that. Even DA:I with all the effortless side-quests averted would be an improvement. Like, if they only have the quests related to restoring peace between mages and templars in the Hinterlands or maybe a couple about the scouts that have gone missing and are fraternizing with some rogues -- you know, quests with actual world-building value in them, and not "find my ring, it's so important to me!" or "Hey we need some bear skin!" Also, those things sucked because they should neither be a job for the Herald nor the Inquisitor. In ME1 it makes sense to do some busywork on Port Hanshan because it's a means to an end on Shepard's top-priority mission for the highest-up ranking people in the galaxy. I hope they don't make the Pathfinder role too much of an all-out leader (thankfully you're not the only pathfinder, just the human one) because the more important you are and the more authoritarian you become, the less sense it makes to be the guy who has to go and mine or escort people for the organization. That's the big narrative mistake from DA:I that must not carry over when ME:A also attempts at an open-world/sandbox structure.

Well, the Pathfinder has to explore stuff. It's in the job description, it seems, even if he might be quite high in the hierarchy.

True that. I just hope in terms of the Andromeda Initiative infrastructure it becomes believable in spite of being obviously made for gameplay purposes first and foremost.

I don't mind a focus in exploration when it suits the character we're playing as, and his/her role. Of course, I think that they should improve compared to DAI. Having real, multiple hubs in the game might also help a bit with the exploration focus. The fact that they mentioned that several times (as well as Nexus not being the only one), is much appreciated.

Yes, I really hope those "cities" Mike was referring to are more than the various keeps or mini towns in DA:I. I think his comparison of ME:A to the Citadel of the trilogy was really bad though, because he seems to be ignorant of ME1's citadel when he points out you couldn't draw your gun there. You could, and there was many moments of combat on the Citadel in ME1 so that isn't a problem they're fixing really. It just seemed like a bad attempt at making open-world areas look enticing to me or perhaps he doesn't care because he only produced ME2 and 3.

I can see the fights not happening on the Nexus, but I think they can theorically happen in the hubs in the various planets.

Heh, they cocked up the timeline, saying Mass Effect: Galaxy starred Miranda Lawson and Jacob Black. I'm surprised the tumblerinas aren't marching on them holding pitchforks and "that's racist" banners. Other than that, interesting read. I'm looking forward to it.
