The opening sequence with the Normandy and Mass Relay. After that, you kinda just knew this game was going to be special. This, for me. The music. The Normandy; wow, cool ship. When I saw the relay, I was going "wtf is that thing?" and then zooooooooooom! I was hooked.

As a veteran of BioWare games, I knew I was going to experience a good game. The entire intro was impressive, but the first wow moment was seeing Nihlus. He was awesome looking. He still looks awesome to this day, as does Wrex. Those two look better to me in their ME1 rendering than any ME2 or ME3 renderings. Talking to Nihlus, hearing that characteristic Turian voice, and seeing that now famous, subconscious facial twitch during the Eden Prime transmission-- he just seemed so very much alive. I was very impressed from the start, and I still hate to see Nihlus get blasted by Saren.

The opening sequence with the Normandy and Mass Relay. After that, you kinda just knew this game was going to be special. This was my moment, too - the first one. And it's a good sign when the intro is a wow moment! There are so many reasons why I loved it and immediately wanted to just keep playing. The whole intro is fantastic. A short summary of the state of the galaxy and humanity, seeing the Normandy fly to the relay and go through with Joker and Nihlus talking, Kaidan talking back, all with the awesome Mass Effect theme playing. And then there was the fact that for the first time, I had created my own character in an RPG (except the same one in the ME3 demo beforehand). Hearing Anderson and Udina talking about the character I just set the appearance and background of, seeing her in the world for the first time looking out that window, walking through the Normandy - an affirmation that yes, I could actually play as a woman (Holy crap! ) - was amazing! And then of course, getting to choose how she acted. I remember her first words: "They don't send Spectres on shakedown runs." Anyway, awesome scene. Very well done, and I hope ME:A's intro is similar. Although, it seems like it may bear some similarities with ME2's intro (ship getting destroyed)... There are tons of other wow moments, such as arriving at the Citadel, becoming a Spectre and taking control of the Normandy and getting to land on planets, or Sovereign's reveal, as others mentioned (and of course ME2/3 stuff), but that was the first.

Having never played a Sci-fi game before, the whole of ME:1 was one big WOW for me so I can't really pinpoint what stood out the most......Maybe Sovereign? I can tell you my first WTF? moment though. It was a damned thresher maw, which proceeded to kill me twice before I fled back to the ship and refused to return until my third Play-through. There really should be a warning about giant Worm ambushes.

It was cool to hear him in Shadow of Mordor as the wraith, Celebrimbor, with a British accent. Not actually sure which accent he's putting on. Good example with the facial twitch, too. Having never played a Sci-fi game before, the whole of ME:1 was one big WOW for me so I can't really pinpoint what stood out the most......Maybe Sovereign? I can tell you my first WTF? moment though. I can't even guess how many I've killed with a pistol and polonium rounds, at this point. (I know incendiary is more optimal, but I love turning my foes into green dust.)

I've been thinking about it, and I think my most favourite WOW moment from the entire Trilogy has to be the Thresher Maw taking down a Reaper in ME:3. Whoever came up with that, must be a fan of Tremors with Kevin Bacon. Oh and Sovereign arriving through the Mass relay surrounded by Geth, to attack the Citadel.

The first wow moment? I'd say the menu screen. The music gave me goosebumps and I didn't even play the game yet!
The biggest wow moment has to be the Mass Effect 3 ending (I played ME3 after all DLC were released).
I was so stunned and amazed by the conclusion of it all that I was incapacitated for a good hour.

It might have been doing the Paragon version of FemShep's speech to the Normandy shortly after taking command. It established for me that this was going to be partly a story about humanity finding its place in the galaxy and that I could make my character an important and inspiring leader to that end.

Definitely the first arrival to the Citadel as you fly in, but the sequence where you're made a spectre really sealed the deal. In fact, that scene alone is my most memorable of the trilogy. I wish I could go back and reply ME1 for the first time again.

The opening sequence is the obvious one but for me it was actually even before that. It was already the Mass Effect 1 character creation menu, which is designed like a failed login into the Alliance network:
This was already super immersive for me and from that moment I knew that BW was doing everything to try and pull us into this universe.. Kinda reminded me of the old C&C: Tiberium Conflict where even the installer was already trying to pull you into the game. I really like it when games are trying to me immersive with their GUIs. Unfortunately, not a lot of them do (see e.g. DA:I). I really hope ME:A will go back to having an immersive interface.

The opening sequence with the Normandy and Mass Relay. After that, you kinda just knew this game was going to be special. yeah that was probably mine an the first moments on Eden Prime looking at the scenery I thought it looked a really impressive game not so much nowadays having seen and played the other 2 ME's and DAI but when I first got into it it did.

It was either the first time I saw the Citadel from space or maybe when I spoke to Sovereign on Virmire. It made me feel like humans were just ants in someone else's sandbox. The next times I had similar feelings were the opening sequences of ME2 and ME3. Both took my breath away.

Since I've started with ME2, I gotta say, that opening sequence.
Seeing your protagonist die and his ship being destroyed isn't what I would expect from a game opening.
And then, On Illium, with this

I am not really sure as it was a long time ago. I do know that the ME1 opening sequence struck me as very very good, but was I wowed? Can't remember! I do remember one moment with particular clarity however. When I first reached Noveria, entered the main building and the Noveria theme started playing. I immediately stopped doing anything and just listened to the damn thing. The ambience and atmospehere of the piece was so intoxicating... That was a definite wow!

I keep trying to think of what my first 'wow' moment was, but it has been so long that I can no longer remember.
It may have have been one of the following: > the opening scene going through the relay > the video of Alliance soldiers on Eden Prime fighting an unknown enemy > seeing Sovereign take off in the distance

It's been a few years since I first played, so I don't really remember too well. I just remember seeing ME1 going really cheap on 360 and I'd heard a lot of good things about it so I decided to give it a go. I was hooked almost instantly.
Though I never went "Wow!" aloud, some moments that really impressed me were creating my character, the music, learning I could control the dialog (I didn't even know that was a feature before I played), becoming a Spectre and being given command of the Normandy "Now I can go wherever I want!", and the ending when Shepard comes out of the wreckage.
I'd never played an RPG quite like this one before with so much choice and freedom to change events. The whole thing stunned me.
