Kenobi - John Jackson Miller I would have rathered a Mad Max type scenario, but a western on Tatooine starring Kenobi as the "mysterious stranger" trying to keep a low profile in the middle of a hotbed of scrappy frontier businesses, politics, and hostile raiders, not to mention a hilarious nosey community, was not a bad story. Like some of the better novels, this one offers some interesting insights into Kenobi, particularly as he comes to terms with the events of The Revenge of the Sith, the loss of the Jedi order, and his fateful battle with Anakin. Not to be outdone, though, is the supporting cast of scrappy moisture farmer settlers carving out a living under harsh desert suns, and the vicious Tusken raiders pushed to the desperate brink of survival. Highly recommended for Star Wars fans.

I think the first one is a "still reading" because I got sidetracked by "The Magician's Land". First book listed is paperback, second was something cheap or free for Kindle.

EE Doc Smith's Lensman series, yet again. At last, I've found all the installments available digitally. I've tried to read some of this, namely the lead up to it: The Skylark of Space, Skylark Three and Triplanetary (at least I think they're all prequels given I have them as an omnibus edition). Man is it rough going. Hope the Lensman series is a better read for the day in the far future that I finish the prequels. Technically I'm also reading Skylark Three but I have to take long breaks before resuming.

Triplanetary is a little tough because it's 'set-up', but books 2-6 simply set alight...

So I got through Asunder and now have just barely managed to start the Masked Empire. As I said probably the better of the two reads. I tend to like high class political drama far more then whatever the heck Asunder was...granted Asunder did have a few interesting statements on the blurring of lines and how we should not just give into our assumptions...but Masked Empire I am quite confident was just better in its flow writing and all of its characters were far better and more interesting. The triumvirate of Celene/ Briala and Michel de Chevin was quite nice to read their adventures and none of the villains really came off as being pure mustache twirling sychophants. At the end of the day Celene actually did come off as being worse then Gaspard, willing to play politics and the Game in order to get her way. Though if I had my way I would've made Michel the Empire...I mean hell none of the characters came out of this looking particularly rosey.

I needed something a bit more 'in-depth' after my DOOM read so I went for The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth. I have been seeing it mentioned time and again and the general consensus was that it was highly regarded so I picked it up. I cleared it in two sittings Fantastic read, might go back and reread it once I watch the movie with Edward Fox.

Just finished reading this: I am now reading this: oops sorry about the size... Spoiler'ed the bloody huge image.
Anything Co-Do is awesome. (I think I might have been influenced by it, somewhat. )
Scalzi's trilogy is on my Kindle, but haven't "cracked it open" yet, as it were.
Edit to add:
This series has been entertaining: I ended up going through the first three... four? five? books during a week-long MCSE 'bootcamp' (including travel days).

Just read the book. Which is different than the movie in some rather significant details. It's also rather short and thus quite expensive per page. The enemy in the book is a branch of organized crime. The girl just flits by, half unconscious, before she is retaken by the mob. The fact that she's not present during the story, doesn't make her insignificant though, just irrelevant for the proceedings. I think the movie is an example of a story better told, but the book is an example of a better story told. One thing that impressed me about the book is the ending, which is quite different from the movie. The movie clearly wanted both closure and the ending to be uplifting. But the novel appealed to my rivers-of-blood-thirst-for-vengeance better. Both because it's far less obsessed with suicide than the movie, and because of the non-ending ending. When he has learned everything and decided what to do, the novel ends. Which is pretty cool. A John Wick story starts there, but there is really nothing more that we need to be told. We have no doubt. I thought that was dam cool. I'll steal that and hope to use it some day. The writing itself is poor though. The strength is the story itself. The movie is the opposite, it's magnificently told.
