I didn't feel like reading any of the books stacked by my chair (I'm really over contemporary fiction - it's just....bleh) so instead dug out a classic I bought years ago and managed to shove into the bottom shelf corner of a bookcase where I couldn't see it: A Canticle for Leibowitz.

I have that book as well and read it a long time ago.

I got the free amazon version. It's........... okay so far. It's very well written but I don't think the story works very well. Perhaps it's much more digestable if I read the previous novels and get a sense of how Dumas writes.

So finished the first book of The Night Angel Trilogy and am half way through the 2nd one. The first book was great but it took me till about 30 to 40% in to get into the second one. Like the characters and the writing and story, first book was a bit confusing to start off with so many characters and lands etc. but still enjoyable. Thanks to those previously in this thread that recommended the books, I think in particular it was Iakus and Energizer Bunny 211 sorry if I missed someone. Found this character drawing when searching for an image of the books:

There was a huge info. thing by the author in the Kindle edition I got, it was pretty interesting and he pretty much said that and something along the lines of: "What the fuck kind of author writes about 11 year old kids in these situations." It's pretty bold and could be done so badly but thought that he actually did it really well.

I'm about 200+ pages into the second book, which I"ve read four times previously in the past decade-- I have not read the novella The Perfect Shadow because it's super expensive up here in the Great White North because it is only available in hardcover. Yet it is only 150 pages, quite small. It's 35.00 dollars, which is expensive considering it's size. But the other 3 are very good and what makes them so good isn't necessarily the action or magic or settings....for me it is the characters. And yes, Durzo had a horrible life....But he was a cactus.
My favourite character is Momma K because she plays the dual roles, lives in two worlds so effortlessly. She's this beautiful courtesan and wealthy owner of the city's most ritzy brothels....but she's also the secret leader of the criminal underground 'mafia'/network of spies if you want to call them that. And she's so good at that part of her job, she's been doing it from the shadows for 20 years without anyone noticing. How someone can live in two worlds like that and yet still retain their 'humanity' is I think, written very well.

Hey, I was just thinking while pouring my first cup of coffee.....For anyone who has read or is reading or is even interested in The Night Angel trilogy....I'm going to start a Discussion Thread on this topic, because honestly, there's so much I could say about these books. I think they make for an interesting topic, so I'm going to ask the Mods to move all of the references to The Night Angel into their own Thread which I will start.
Any objections?

If it comes to recommendations however, I will wholeheartedly tell you all good Bioware folks to read the shit out of this guy: His name is Henry Rider Haggard and he is one of the pioneers of the adventure novel. Suffice it to say that there would be no Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, The Phantom or any other type of adventure genre if he had taken a bullet during his many journeys in Africa. He is probably more famous in pop culture because he created the character of Allan Quatermain, as seen here in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie: Shit movie, I know, but if you're curious about reading his work, I wholeheartedly recommend this tiny little collection of his on Amazon, which I bought for a dollar and a half: Amazing writer. Deffinitely among my favorites.

I just ordered this: Anyone read it? I bought it just from a single recommendation, hope its good. I've read 60-70% of it. Then I stopped. Nothing to do with the book. It was a couple of years ago, and something interrupted it and then I never picked it up again. Don't remember what, but I'd guess work and I had to travel some? The book seems okay. More interesting than gripping, I'd say. Now that you've reminded me, I'll have to try to find it. You feeling okay now, btw?

Momma K is great, Viridana is great and I think Uly and Kylar are good even (just waiting for them to be developed more) though Kylar seems like a bit of an immature idiot ATM and I also really like Ariel who has a really long name that DazK can't remember all of ATM. Ken to find out who the "Wolf" is but I have a good idea who I think it is.
