Final thoughts on "The Stormlight Archive" after finishing both "Rhythm of War" and "Dawnshard": we're extremely lucky that Sanderson is such a meticulous and disciplined writer, we know exactly when we can expect the next installment - somewhere in 2023 - and frankly I can hardly wait for it. Both books are written in his unique style which personally I find very enjoyable. And specially for @fuckit : No, though there are a few chapters in RoW from Eshonai's POV, the main representative of the Parshendi is Venli. But I did not find that her viewpoint was predominant, I'd rather say Navani was the main character and the big surprise of this volume. Also a lot of char development for Shallan and Kal and a lovely role for Adolin...

George R. R. Martin's Feast of Crows Strange title since it has nothing to do with the Crows or the Wall. I have to say the books and the television series departed greatly after the Game of Thrones book. The show sure cut out a lot of characters and story arcs but gave us a lot of filler on events and characters who shouldn't have had it. An example is Robb. In the books he's basically a background character but on the show's first couple years, you would think he was important. This book is a little boring, basically Cersie, Jamie and Brienee stories, no Dany!

My feeling is that the payback for Dawnshard is going to be in the yet unnamed Vol. 5.

I read this book: and am now reading this book: The Forever War was great but Forever Free for me was a just interesting but a bit too out there for me. I agree with this assessment. Two things wrong with Forever free, 1) as you say just way out there bizarre 2) The pacing of the novel was not to my liking. Nothing happens for long lengths of time other than back ground info then all of a sudden within a few chapters massive massive things happen that get int he way of each other. Then back to mundane stuff just as quickly.

Wow. Still my current favourite fantasy author. Not only producing in a timely, consistent, and professional manner, but managing to put out amazing content. Walks the line between quality and quantity better than any other fantasy author I've read, bar none.
Into the very spoilery stuff, seriously don't click this until you've read the book people...
Damn. I'm getting to the point where I see his patterns (pun intended) so I foresaw a fair bit of the major points. Particularly the way everything played out with Kaladin. I didn't expect Teft would die specifically but I did expect Teft would die, and that someone would die propelling Kaladin to the Fourth Ideal. Kaladin being the only active Radiant (aside from Lift) in the tower also let me guess he'd save the day by swearing it. Still loved reading it.
What I absolutely did NOT expect was Taravangian BECOMING FUCKIN ODIUM! Holy jeebus that one came out of left field for me. I really like(d) Taravangian as a character, empathized with him. Did not see him going that way. Now I'm going to have to go back at some point and catch the foreshadow I must've missed. Using the "stupid" as much as the "smart" was great. Cultivation has been sidelining the show but I've seen it as laying in wait pulling strings. She's outplayed Rayse spectacularly, from Dalinar to Taravangian. Now she's unleashed him and about to get played herself in the next 5 book arc I suspect.
Taravangian getting access to Wit's memories propels him to a worthy series-level villain.
Also loving how many tie-ins to the other books are being introduced. Seons, Harmony, good stuff.
Shallan isn't my favourite and while I don't precisely gloss over her chapters I might get a bit glaze-eyed. Formless at least had me a bit more interested at least. I felt like the inconsistencies of her past were more irritating than intriguing so I'm happy that's out of the way.
Adolin was a character I thought I wouldn't particularly like in book 1 and I'm very happy to say he's one of my favs. I love his story and arc. I had accurately guessed Maya and the other deadeyes would provide the "win" in Lasting Integrity from the very beginning but I didn't see how specifically. Her words hit me hard and I loved that it was her choice and sacrifice. They weren't murdered in the Recreance, and all this time the spren have betrayed the memory of her willing sacrifice. Damn that was beautiful and sorrowful.
Raboniel was a surprise too. A very complex villain. Leshwi was interesting albeit she was fairly straightforward.
I'm curious about Moash. Sanderson has a way of painting villains with shades of grey and Moash seems to be a black smear. That's intentional, and now that Taravangian is at the helm and Moash is blind I'm wondering where the character will go from here. I have no clue other than that he's been made too obviously unlikable.
I agree Navani seemed to be the central figure with a lot of growth. Delving into the science behind a lot of the mechanics was interesting to read. I hope the Sibling gets a bit more character in the next book.
Rlain has piqued my interest for a while now, glad he got a fair bit of screen-time.
Venli bugs me, I found it difficult to get through her chapters sometimes. She moves the plot along but my investment in her character is mediocre at best.
Dalinar has been my favourite character from book 1 and continues to be so. He had a bit of a backseat in this one which is fine given the last book was all him. I still saw a lot of foreshadow I'll need to unpack in a reread. His connection to Odium particularly. Seeing what Ishtar, an experienced Bondsmith, can do was great in that regard. If Honor lives on in the hearts of men, and Dalinar is all about Connection, I suspect that's how he's manifesting Honor's powers that all the powerful players seem surprised at. My suspicion is that he'll eventually become Honor but I'm not 100% convinced on that yet. Something pretty important that hasn't happened yet AFAIK in the cosmere is the reformation of a splintered Shard. That seems within Dalinar's reach.
Oh yeah, the Mink was fun. But I don't trust him one bit.
Getting some viewpoint chapters of Jasnah was a treat. Her perspective is closest to the readers knowledge if you've read all the cosmere books. Wit seems that way but he knows more than has been released, whereas Jasnah, she's sorting it all out like we are. As much as I love the Stormlight Archive my eyes are on the horizon beyond it. Sanderson has explained the rough release of major cosmere series and 30-40 years from now I'm dying to see how it all ends. I'm bad with the whole Journey before Destination stuff.
That being said, apart from one particular series by another author, the Stormlight Archive is my favourite book series.
Backwards to Dawnshard, then I might try and finally pick up White Sand.

For a long time the second place (behind Tolkien) for me was a close call between Robert Jordan (WoT) and George RR (ASoIaF), but now Sanderson is the clear winner and he'll keep it, even if by some miracle we'll see the end of ASoIaF . And I hope to see the full Cosmere finished, because it's the only thing that in scope and beauty touches Tolkien's work ...

The book is great, none of the movies made about it were even close to comparable and they all stuffed up the whole premise and misinterpreted the ending. Another older novel I really liked was The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester, it takes a bit to get into but I really liked it.

It's not bad. I think the heroine is a little too young, but I think she is that age so the author can avoid writing romance. As the characters go, I very much prefer Sophia to Princess Arilin. As it now stands I expect the Princess to be placed in Peril in the next book. Very much hoping that I am wrong.

Just started George R. R. Martin's Dance With Dragons
As I said earlier its rather annoying how much was cut out in the tv series. The tv series would have been far more interesting if they stuck closer to the books. Could have been an easy 20+ episodes a book. A lot of Dorn and Ironborn content was lost. Also I never liked Cersei on the series, I really hate her in the books. She's a paranoid schizophrenic with no likeable qualities at all.

"The Burning White" Book #5 and the final installment of "The Lightbringer" series by Brent Weeks. Purchased in back on August 11th, 2020 the day it was released in Trade paperback format, but have been busy with other things so I haven't had time to read it. But, I've decided that now is a good time to read it and complete yet another stellar series from a once-unknown, now favourite author of mine. And it all goes back to that night in October of 2008 when a random stranger walked up to me, and noticing that I was looking at The Way of Shadows he couldn't resist but excitedly emplore me to buy the whole trilogy (though only the first installment was out at the time.....Hearing such high and exuberant praise, I took him up on it and made my purchase.
I got home and started reading the next afternoon. I finished the book in less than three days, often neglecting to eat or even sleep. Of course, then I had to wait...oh, I forget how long...but it seemed an agonizingly long time for the second installment to be released. And when it finally was, I bought it right away but promised myself that I would read it slower this time....not wanting to repeat my first mistake, only to finish it so quickly and yet still have a long time for the third and final installment. As it turned out the third installment did not take even nearly as long as the second installment....but I wasted no time and bough the mass market pb as soon as it was released so I could conclude this epic story. Over the years I have read that trilogy at least four times....and I still cry at the ending, every time.
With The Lightbringer....Through the four books I have read, it is all together different than The Night Angel Trilogy, and in some ways more complex...but I have enjoyed it equally as much and I am excited to delve into this fifth and final installment. But rest assured, whenever Brent Weeks starts writing again....I will be buying, because he is one author whose writing I have so thoroughly and consistently enjoyed.

Let's see... "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. I'm reading it because of school, but I'm actually quite enjoying it too. and the second book in the norwegian fantasy series "Ravneringene" - "Råta" by Siri Pettersen. The first book in this series will be available in english soon, and I really recommend it! The english name is "The Raven Rings". It has already been translated into several other languages too.

As with all anthologies, it's a bit uneven. But then, again, there are stories to suit just about any taste. "Dirty Deeds.........Done Dirt Cheap"

I`m reading an historical novel by Isabel Stillwell, a portuguese author. The book it`s called "D. Manuel I - duas irmãs para um rei", that we could translate into something like "D. Manuel I - two sisters for a king". I couldn`t find any english translations on this book so i`ll post the original cover.

I`m only at the beginning of the book, but the story is based on a portuguese king that lived in the XVI century, his first wife was Isabel de Aragão e Castela, and if memory serves me right, she was his cousin in second degree. She died giving birth to their first son and afterwards he married Maria, one of her younger sisters (thus the title "two sisters for a king". And he also had a third wife after Maria died, she was the two sisters` niece and his son`s bride ). There`s a good chance for love triangles and cat fighting i guess but i`m too early in the book to know.

It was a College writing assignment, meant to be a character sketch after studying the original story.
