I'm usually not this big of a flake, but I've moved on yet again: King of Thorns was really dragging, and my friend has been bugging me to read Liu Cixin's Three-Body Problem for a long time now, and I saw that I can get it for free right now with Kindle Unlimited. So, The Three-Body Problem. I'm actually pretty excited for this one. So, that was days ago. How is it?

Enjoying it so far, have been busy this week so not as much reading time (think I'm only about 33% through it). I am finding the dialogue to be a bit... off. But I imagine that's due to the translation, and some things not being as easily converted from Chinese to English as it would be from, say, Spanish to English or something.

So ended up not reading book 8 of The Expanse after being recommended The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov. I am a huge fan of a lot of the old writers but have not read any Asimov books that I can remember so thought I'd give it Foundation try especially as I liked the premise. Well I honestly found it incredibly boring, after repeating the same pattern pretty much 4 or 5 times and with the old vocabulary and the style of the writing it was a real challenge to finish it. The basic premise seemed to be introduce a few characters at certain point in time have them overcome some enemy because they are so clever and then rinse and repeat with the occasional appearance of Seldin. Maybe it was my mood, state of mind but the only thing that kept me going was that this has to get better and more interesting. So I bought book two and to that point it has started off at least without a cigar smoking mastermind who reveals little. Can someone please tell me I am either an ignorant ingrate or that I am too dumb to enjoy these books or that it does get better?

The Foundation books are a fascinating look at what "cuting edge" science fiction was like. I mean, pocket calculators, amazing! But I never thought psychohistory as Asimov described it made any sense.

Have not read anything in months but the last book I picked up and (I suppose, am still trying to get through) is the fifth and final book of Brent Weeks' Lightbringer series, called "The Burning White". Haven't really made or had time to read it, and when I do think of picking it up....I find it a chore to do so...mostly because it is close to 1000 pages. 927, I believe.

I read that over a decade ago and remember liking it but I couldn't even tell you what it was about now. don`t worry, it also happens to me sometimes. Actually, a year ago a friend was talking about a book that she had enjoyed and i thought the story looked interesting, so she borrowed me the book and i only realised that i had already read it when i was halfway through it (to my defense i think i had read it 15-20 years ago).

i started to read "The Dispossessed" by Ursula K. Le Guin. Ah, what a classic feeling: "Why is the Spanish so horrib... Ohhhhh, it's Portuguese." Recently got this book and hope to read it soon as well.

Victoria doesn’t need a cape and a name to be a hero. Living and working in the slums of Serenity City, she has become its faceless and nameless defender. She turned her back on the glittering world of professional superheroes years ago. If she has her way, she’ll never go back.
But the young and forgotten teens she helps are disappearing from the street, and nobody seems to care. As Victoria unravels this mystery, she is lead back to her old life in the star-studded glamourous superhero circles. No matter how much she hates it, she can’t abandon the helpless when they need her the most.
All clues point back to The Rampage, the terrible day when their mightiest champion Achilles fell to darkness. Will Victoria uncover the truth of what actually happened twenty years ago in time to help her lost boys and girls?
And what will happen when the fallen hero Achilles escapes, and Victoria is the only one who can stop him?

Finished book 3 of Foundation and I am not sure I will read anymore, my understanding is that there are 2 more books Foundations Edge and Foundation & Earth then a prequel is that correct?
Overall I found the book OK and the ending and its great reveal made it better but it was a lot of only OK reading to get there. Maybe I had too great an expectation and was over-hyped for it. Might read the other two depending on price at a later date but I will see if I can get a free trial of Apple TV and watch the TV series.
I am expecting The Expanse book 9 (the final one) to arrive tomorrow as Amazon notified me it was being expedited early so as to arrive on the release date so everything else will take a back seat to that. Had hoped to read book 8 again beforehand but don't want to wait to read book 9.

I also only ever read the main three novels though. Not sure what actually is in the rest (I think one is actually a prequel if I understand correctly).
As for the Expanse, turns out I timed it perfectly, I am just about to go through the last pages of book 8 again Naomi and Alex are already back on the Roci and they are about to start their offensive on the Laconia system. So when I get book 9 on Tuesday, I should be good to go.

Two prequels: Prelude to Foundation, and Forward the Foundation. The latter completed after Asimov's death. Also, Greg Bear and David Brin wrote several Foundation books authorized by the Asimov estate as well.

I really liked the premise but for me it just never really executed on it at the base story level. There were times I couldn't wait to turn the next page but there were more times I was like yeah yeah get on with it. I really enjoyed the end of book 3 but in a way it was almost too clever for itself, I dunno its hard to explain. I think part of it was the second foundation was just too absent in most of the story and the bulk of the story especially in the first book to me seemed repetitive. That all sounds negative but I did enjoy it obviously enough to pay for the second and third one. Re The Expanse well done looks like you timed it perfectly. I am so tempted to try and fly through book 8 over the next two days, I feel comfortable with my memory of it though and I'd rather prioritise starting to watch Season 5 again.

RE Foundation: I loved the first book most of all. It so many clever layers, from Hari's "foresight" to Salvor's brilliant scheming. I loved the Salvor character (which is why I am a bit mad that the show changed it completely, one might say butchered it). I do remember it draggin on a little at times and it had some rather strange stuff in it as well but over all, I thought it was brilliant.
RE The Expanse: Yea, I am happy I read books 7 and 8 again. I liked them better than the first time around (especially book 8 which I didn't really appreciate as much the first time). Super hyped for book 9 now. I really hope they can end the story on a bang! If we get another Mass Effect like situation, I am gonna freak out. But I do have a lot of faith that Ty and Daniel can deliver. They haven't disappointed yet. Fingers crossed.

So it arrived just now, so excited but also conflicted. Started reading book 8 last might and got about 15% through book 8 and I now want to finish it which means Leviathan Falls will just be sitting there staring at me. Or I could just start reading it, so confused!!!!! Can't do any reading till later anyway so the real time to make a decision will be in about 7 hours.
