Is it going to be Michael Bay-esque? That transformers worm and the DUB STEP JUMP CUTS in the trailer has lead many to believe that it will be.
Did the trailer editor just screw up?
Time will tell. Perhaps the VGA awards trailer will be more cerebral, as true Bioware fans prefer.
Hint hint? You have time to re-edit your VGA trailer, Bioware. I'm just letting you know.

ME2 and even more so ME3 were plenty Michael Bay-esque. The trailers look dreadfully unexciting, but so far the tidbits we have gotten through the interviews are what have kept my interest in this game alive. It simply appears like the more interesting elements are also the sort they are not willing to go over just yet. I am prepared to hold my breath, for a while.

Yeah. I imagine BioWare is getting more and more young team members these days that want more "modern" stuff without much consideration for subtlety -- that is kind of the norm if you go talk to the average person. The goal of a narrative to most people not totally invested or knowledgeble about it is to be entertained or to experience something that evokes strong reactions, and to casual moviegoers or gamers a superficial but stylish experience is enough, hence why the ME2 intro resonates so much, and honestly even does to me despite of how limited its narrative merit is, and similarly I was blown away by Transformers in 2007 just for its effects and cool scenes.
Most people don't ever get past that stage I've noticed. I currently study at a programming (for games) institution and previously I went to college where I still have gamer-friends, and the majority of those, that is, people who want to make games going forward, think in the lines of "more blood = better", "dubstep = legit!" so that's just the way it is.
And if there ever was a point for BioWare to redefine what Mass Effect is, it is now. I just hope Andromeda doesn't veer so far into "WUBWUBWUB, BANG, CRASH!" territory that I can't even see the resemblance to the original Mass Effect. I'm pretty sure that won't happen though.
Also, ME2 was certainly more summer blockbuster-esque, but it didn't have a lot of larger-than-life moments before the final boss. It was ME3 that really started going into Michael Bay territory with how many times Shepard falls from high places or fights creatures that are 100 times bigger than himself and sometimes singlehandedly.

I feel more inclined to give the credit to Two Steps from Hell. Heart of Courage can make practically anything epic.

I love that DLC, but that fight is one of the most ridiculous in the series. I would rank ME2 on the top when it comes to Michael Bayness.

I think they stand a good chance to return it to its former glory if they focus on the rpg elements and go from quantity action moments to quality instead.

I wouldn't have a problem with a large sequence of explosions, BUT, the trailer must give sense and not just flashing random scenes.

Killing Reviving Shepard is in the top 2 of the most stupid thing happened in the trilogy. yeah that was weird having bin torn apart by the atmosphere and all. Also as a patriot joining Cerberus also made no sense. It's more about the technology not being available in the ME universe to resurrect people, as well as them not really trying to explain how Cerberus managed to succeed. Joining Cerberus might make sense to some Shepards. I think the main problem is that, even if they forced Shepard to join, we should have more options to express our problems with it. Expecially a Sole Survivor Shepard.

agreed its a great trailer and what an opening that game had! Heh. The scene itself is great, if Shepard would stay dead. Killing Reviving Shepard is in the top 2 of the most stupid thing happened in the trilogy. It was just pointless. Destroying the SR1 was great, but Shepard could have just as well been jettisoned in space and somehow retrieved rather than being rebuilt. Considering that the Alliance would have been in the same position and the whole existential crisis of being reanimated is never really a part of the narrative, it would make no difference. I wouldn't agree with killing Shepard outright, because some of the major narratives to come in the trilogy would just not have the same connection to a new protag, or with any returning characters.

I didn't mean that Shepard should've died in that moment. Just that the scene would be truly great if he'd stay dead. Since he obviously wasn't going to stay dead, they should've avoided that.

I really like the new trailers, and think the grimdark bay-esque tone works well for it: I actually J'adore EDM though (I can't be the only one on BSN lol), so I guess that helps with the grimbass jungle step drops haha. The Mass Effect 2 launch trailer is the pinnacle of game trailers IMO, it gives me shivers and a tear every damn time: who's cutting onions? It is the trailer I go to when I want to say to someone "now this, this is how you do a game trailer!"

Many people have seen bigfoot. Many people suspect that the US government did 9/11. Many people believe that Congress is full of lizard people. Like, three people are saying this. Trailers for any sort of action-y type game anymore rarely have much if anything to do with a game's tone or how it plays. This game needs to come out soon. We're reaching self-parody. Reading the bolded parts, I thought this was a joke thread. Still not completely sure it isn't...? Again, self-parody. It's hard to tell anymore. Kinda like the increasingly blurred lines between Buzzfeed and Clickhole. By March people will be playing the trailers backwards and claiming they're saying "Hail Satan, give EA all your money."

Seriously, lasing a reaper destroyer or holding a position on earth against a reaper horde can't hold a candle against fist-fighting a friggin yagh. I love that DLC, but that fight is one of the most ridiculous in the series. I would rank ME2 on the top when it comes to Michael Bayness. He takes on a fucking turret directly facing a reaper, then dodges its lasers when he's its single focus while acquiring it as a target. He runs directly towards a reaper on ground on Tuchanka with his squad as he dodges its stomps. He slides possibly 100 feet almost vertically down a metal wall and regains his focus after 2 seconds because the shockwave of a warship takes out the ground under him. He crashlands a shuttle after dodging a ninja trying to sabotage his ship and moves on. He fires a nuke that takes out a type of Reaper in one blast. Also, think the Yahg is a big deal? What fighting a bunch of brutes or an atlas mech and then taking over it to ratatatatata some enemies. This is not to mention how fucking Michael Bay every scene with Kai Leng and his stupid henchmen or gunships are, especially the one on Thessia. Mac Walters seems to encourage Michael Bayness given his sole lead role in ME3 and then being creative dir. for Andromeda and it seems there's even more "wubwubwub"ness now and "TAKE COVER, TAKE COVER!" genericness. It's all pretty cool which I'm sure Mac likes. He also loves saying "bigger" in interviews like when he says "Andromeda will be more BIGGER" in that gameinformer interview. I'm sure he's referring to the actual scope of the game world but it reminds me of when he summarized ME3 as "bigger" and "like a movie" which I hated and still do. This was before I was even aware he hadn't taken the Lead role from another guy. I didn't know any Behind the scenes stuff to Mass Effect before i hyped 3 in 2011 and the first interview with Mac just didn't sit right with me. In that sense I'm a hipster because I disliked Mac and his crappy coolness fixation before it was cool to hate him for the ending.
