The Kai Leng stuff was rather tame, I thought. The real problem, other than Kai Leng getting no in-game exposition to really justify his existence, is the sloppy way that mission forces you to be defeated. As for everything else, I will always maintain that ME2 is no less silly in the way a lot of things are presented than ME3. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Anyhoo, regarding the whole "Michael Bay esque" concept, the biggest problem with Bay films are really the characters themselves. Sure sure too much bombast is bad, but movies like Transformers stink because above all else, the characters are all annoying, disposable fodder for frenetic nonsense. Thankfully, BioWare doesn't really have this problem...so far.

then dodges its lasers when he's its single focus while acquiring it as a target. One of the reasons why the reapers were made stupid in ME3 so that Shepard and the galaxy can defeat them. Had the thing fired its beam of doom horizontally instead of vertically, Shepard would be vaporized What's funny about that is if you stop moving and look up, you can see the thing holding its leg in the air waiting for you to move Shepard so it can drop its leg on Shepard Same can be said about Anderson

It's a great show, I was worried when I saw that Bay's name was attached and I wasn't a big fan of the pirate genre in the first place but the special effects and battle scenes are crazy good which I think Bay had influence in making. Has amazing characters and plot. Season 1 was the weakest but the finale keeps you invested for what may be god tier TV in seasons 2 and 3.

I can't say that I'd trust anything to be good because of the name of the producer. Example: Steven Spielberg produced Transformers.

ME2 and even more so ME3 were plenty Michael Bay-esque. The trailers look dreadfully unexciting, but so far the tidbits we have gotten through the interviews are what have kept my interest in this game alive. It simply appears like the more interesting elements are also the sort they are not willing to go over just yet. I am prepared to hold my breath, for a while. Are you kidding me? I watch the Mass Effect 2 cinematic trailer repeatedly when I'm by myself and get shivers. Look at this awesomeness: What happened to the trailer editor guy who did this? Bring him back! I bet people thought Thane was gonna be awesome........trailers aren't all they're cracked up to be nowadays. If anything, quite the opposite. The more awesome the trailer, the suckier the game. Trailers are too tryhard now, that's the norm.

I don't see why Joker would be considered Micheal Bayesque though. Is your opinion based on ME3 or his overall role and personality? In any case, four characters, two of which have rather small roles, is a small number compared to the whole cast in the game.

I wouldn't have a problem with a large sequence of explosions, BUT, the trailer must give sense and not just flashing random scenes. Flashing random scenes is what you give potential customers when you have nothing more substantive to offer.

I've just found this fan trailer and I fell in love This trailer is actually a lot better than the ones Bioware provided. Skilled editor. I like the music with it, especially in the beginning. Nice change from all the generic bombastic epic music. NOW I'm finally hyped. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait for March!

I found it by chance but I really fell in love with the editing. The music choice is mysterious but has some energy in it too. The music is such a big deal for me with trailers... The song they chose in E3 was so spot on (a pity they didn't make a cinematic trailer with it). The Cinematic trailer was OK, the Orientation video I LOVED IT (once again, that music... I bet it's Andromeda's theme).

Time will tell. Perhaps the VGA awards trailer will be more cerebral, as true Bioware fans prefer.Yikes. I hate when a portion of a fanbase decides their opinion is better than the the rest. Am I not a "true" Bioware fan even though I've been playing since Baldur's Gate? You don't speak for an entire fanbase.

To be fair, a lot of people had similar complaints with regards to the VGA trailer for Mass Effect 3 back in 2011
Lots of action and Michael Bay moments had the forums all riled up, similar to what you are saying OP. They thought the Tuchunka mission was going to be a flop. Afterwards, some fans tweeted to the devs asking why the trailer was so action heavy. They answered that they had a limited time frame, so they wanted to pick an intense scene. They then added that this was only one part of the mission, and that other portions of the mission had all your usual Mass Effect cinematic/RPG goodness.
Looking back at the Tuchunka mission now, I think we can all agree that Bioware was right. I think a lot of fans would agree that Tuchunka was one of the better mission arcs in the entire trilogy. Lots of decision making regarding genophage, Mordin, dialogue, mission order, etc. It had everything.
So, I think it's best to wait it out before jumping to conclusions. Obviously, no one wants a Michael Bay video game for MEA, but considering how little gameplay they have showed, I am not worried yet in the slightest.

napoleon yes. I'm shrugging off your "heroic populist condescending" card in light of the stakes. I'm sorry but I'm not going to let mob rule take over and say making things more Michael-Bay is ever a good thing, ever. I don't care if 6 people, or 6,000 people like your post. I draw a line at veering into Michael Bay territory. It's ridiculous. I stand my ground. That said, it remains to be seen. Perhaps the trailer just messed up the tone. I will play the hell out of the game anyway, enslaved fan that I am.

Is it going to be Michael Bay-esque? That transformers worm and the DUB STEP JUMP CUTS in the trailer has lead many to believe that it will be. Did the trailer editor just screw up? Time will tell. Perhaps the VGA awards trailer will be more cerebral, as true Bioware fans prefer. Hint hint? You have time to re-edit your VGA trailer, Bioware. I'm just letting you know. *turns around and continues staring at computer screen* This post is awesome and made me smile. ME2 and even more so ME3 were plenty Michael Bay-esque. The trailers look dreadfully unexciting, but so far the tidbits we have gotten through the interviews are what have kept my interest in this game alive. It is possible to tell a story with a trailer. Both mystery and pyrotechnics are a bit overrated. A bit of story draws interest much better than 0.8 sec screen flashes and random explosions.

The trailer seemed to be geared towards the dumb masses, who need to be shown explosions and whatnot in order to be convinced a game is awesome and worth the money. I see no cause for alarm yet, at least not until we see the gameplay video on Thursday.

Trailers are so seldom truly representative of the work they're advertising that I'm surprised that this is still a thing. Pixar films generally had very poor trailers, yet the films themselves ended up being very excellent. Does anyone recall any of the Dragon Age: Origins trailers? I mean, just look at that shit.
If you didn't know anything about DA:O, what impression would you get from the trailers alone?
BioWare games don't really have the best trailers, and up until recently, generally just showed a lot of stuff that doesn't really happen in the game at all, at least not nearly the way the game actually presents it, like the Take Back Earth cinematic trailer of Mass Effect 3. At least for Andromeda it seems to be taking actual in-game stuff. In any case, it's compressing scenes that are likely many hours apart into just a couple of minutes. Of course it's gonna be a total lasershow.

Oh gawd, don't remind me of that DAO trailer. I remember watching it after playing ME1 and being utterly disgusted and not interested at all. It represented everything I hated about western RPGs at the time: medieval setting (dark gloomy visuals), orcs, gore...
I only bought it because I was in love with ME1 and it was cheap used.
Didn't like what I saw of ME2 either. Looked like a shocking departure from the geeky vibe of ME1. Too much cool action hero nonsense. I ended up loving both. ;P
