Well, according to a reddit thread of a translated German magazine:
From the German PC gaming magazine interview with Michael Gamble:
translates roughly into:
PC Games: As we have already seen in multiplayer, the system that has been introduced with Mass Effect 2 remains the weapon ammunition. Are they still thermoclips or have you made changes? What about different ammunition types?
Gamble: No, there are no more thermoclips, but it is normal ammo. There will in any case be various types of attacks that differ in the nature of their damage. I am not going to comment on how far this is true of the ammunition system. But there will definitely be strategic elements against various opponents
No other source on this right now, so take it for what it's worth. Seems like we'll have ammo but not specifically thermal clips? If anyone's better with German, feel free to see if you can translate this better.

I don't get why they'd change the definition. Their function is the same.

I feel like we're going backwards as far as 'ammo-tech' goes, you know? I wonder what Conrad would make of it.

I don't mind thermal clips. As far as I'm concerned, the clips are reusable anyway, so there shouldn't be any manufacturing or shortage problems.

I wish they'd just retcon the whole thing and be done with it.
I wonder what weird in lore explanation there will be this time for using "normal" ammunition.

Having traditional ammo makes no sense in the lore they created.
At least with thermal clips there was an argument that could be made for it and it was mostly the mechanics implemented around it for gameplay that broke things.
And they function in the same way anyway, so there is no need to change the wording of it.

Ammo? Like normal ammo? Wow and here I thought the clips were bad...if bullets is what we get I plan to get an overheating weapon and mods asap and pretend those other don't exist at all.
I guess witht the news of old ammo and melee attack being "re"-introduced it is logical to assume that as the franchise progress we are going to get less and less techonological armors. I suppose in ME:A2 we will be using crossbow, greatswords and trebuchet and in ME:A3 we return to the good old gladio, spatha and finally my very favorite the Ballista!
In ME:A4 we will be throwing rocks at our enemies.

Guns still use thermal clips. Most of them, anyway. "Ammo" is just dev short-hand for thermal clips since they serve the function that ammo serves in other shooters.

"Ammo" has been used in-game before. Like Grunt's "I don't need luck, I've got ammo" line. Now as long as they don't appear in bizarre places, like on the wreck of a ship that crashed on a deserted planet years before they were invented...

I'm sure that part will be good, just make sure the story and characters are great That's what I'm playing the game for.. Though admittedly, I spent quite a bit of time in ME3 Multiplayer even if it hadn't got the same story heavy elements. So, good gameplay mechanics has it's value aswell.

Why have consistency in the lore when you have THE AWESOME BUTTON?
Passive cooldowns, thermal clips, regular ammo? Does it really even matter when when you press a button somethin' awesome has to happen!

Does it really even matter when when you press a button somethin' awesome has to happen! That catchphrase made already little sense for DA2 (which button mashing was not forced after the patch), it makes less sense now. There are plenty of reason for criticizing or disliking the things we heard about Andromeda, without going for random, dumb catchphrases that has no relevance with the actual game.

Maybe they are only going to allow us to refill our ammo at designated spots? Sent down from the Tempest or whatever. Perhaps we'll have to make our own. I guess we'll find out at the game awards perhaps.

Wow screwing up the lore even further. ME:Revelations made it clear weapons used small projectiles. Thermal clips were never ammo, they were there to cool down the weapon after you fired. After running out of thermal clips in ME2 and 3 you'd here the classic overheating sound. This is stupid, they should just bring both the overheating system and the weapon mod system back from ME1. This way they won't need to mess up the lore. If the modding system was back along with the overheat system you could mod your weapon so it would overheat rarely. It would be better than this. Atleast thermal clips skirted the bounds of lore. Bringing back "Normal Ammo" ignores lore all together.

To me, it sounds like they are going with Overwatch system, you have limited ammo per clip, but you don't have limited ammo reserve, and the thing with attack types sounds like abilities and ammo types (incendiary, warp, you know what I mean)
Edit: Welp, I didn't notice dev answer...disregard what I said xD

As a reality guy, I wish they went for the same system ArmA uses, where you have separate magazines (for example, their "sci-fi" weapon, Type 115 has 30 round mags - if you reload, the unspent mag stays with whatever amount of rounds that were there before).
So if you afterwards reload a half-full thermal clip, you're back to a half-mag, for example.

There's no half-full thermal clip, at most you could have a half-cooled thermal clip, but I don't think the use of a heated thermal clip makes sense given they are easily available and, I assume, they should cool down rather fast.
