Cover looks dynamic from the very brief snippets I caught. There's an indicator for when you slip into cover -- the little shield that pops up at the center of the UI in between the squadmates' icons. Apologies for the poor gif quality in advance. It looks good so much better than manual cover system. Yep, I like what I see. Doesn't seem like I'll mess up with that for shoot outs.

This video was beautiful to behold. Not every engagement will be that frenetic, I'm sure. They wanted to emphasize those defensive powers, movement abilities and verticality. Throw in that seamless, dynamic cover and it looks incredible, to me. I'm pretty excited for this game, now. It took until December 2016 0_o, but I finally got an extended look at assorted gameplay.

I'd prefer no cover at all. Just shoot an enemy until they're dead and hope you get them before they get you. As long as you have the proper physical defenses in place of course.

I like powers and equipment as tools, but I'd not want a game in which they obviate the need for cover or careful maneuvering. That's what "Easy" and "Normal" difficulty is for, I think. I want the enemies to be deadly enough that my barriers and powers alone aren't sufficient. Sometimes, you need to jump behind a big ass rock, or somesuch. (I did notice that the game suggested such just before the Fiend chewed on Ryder.) Of course, the gameplay trailer suggested that you can play the style you're suggesting pretty successfully. We don't know what the difficulty setting is, or how skilled the player is, etc... Still, the use of cover was minimal in that fight versus the raiders and Hydra mechs.

That and to get rid of 'cover' would mean to remove all walls and hills from the game. Anything that a player could get behind is technically cover. The lack of a snap cover system is literally as close as you get to not having a cover shooter lol. I mean Halo has zero snap cover or lean out cover mechanics. You still get behind shit for cover and use angles because who the shit stands out in the damn open taking plasma to the face? No one, cause that's for fools and the short lived.

I don't like to be called a fool, but i guess that's what you'd call me then because that's what i do. I rarely stay in cover and prefer just to run out into the open facing the enemy head on and killing them as i move along. I do it because i know i can take them down faster then they can kill me. Don't care if i take damage in the process. My bullets will kill them before their damage kills me.

Don't care if i take damage in the process. My bullets will kill them before their damage kills me. Yeah my vanguard rarely sat in cover in ME2. Well, at least rarely engaged directly with cover. I'd say ME3 but I honestly didn't play much Campaign in ME3. I did complete it once (not as a vanguard, sadly) and kinda got through it mostly a 2nd time with Citadel. After all the MP I just got bummed by my lack of options though, add to that the ending and meh. Frankly I think the changes they've made will better support the kinda gameplay you actually want. Well maybe not. You could tank up pretty good in ME1, I remember specifically avoiding getting into cover due to how funky it was. Definitely had more shield/health you could focus on and all that. Anyway im personally looking forward to the more fluid nature of not having snap cover anymore. Also that biotic shield looked sexeh.
