So it is the shape or the color that offends people? For me I don't care about the shape -no matter what it was supposed to be. I look at it as the ideal saber -a lightsaber that was literally "broken" -to be wielded by the most broken of the star wars species -Mandalorians. I look at the color and hilt alone -they are reason enough for me to like it. Speaking of tron color for a material sword... intresting idea. Why did you have to make me think of a Tron darksaber?...-ok lets kill that now and call it what it is: the Mandalorian Lightsaber. EDIT: Editation of Original Image by Josaguah117All of this is wrong, and it's wrong in teh same way- trying to be too edgy and one-up the existing lore elements. Oh, you already have a lightsaber, a colorful blade that can cut through anything? Well, fuck you I have a darksaber that's even more awesome, because it's black! Oh what's this? You have Mandalorians, well fuck you, let's have super Mandalorians! With lightsabers! It's childish playground bullshit and even though we know it wasn't quite conceived as that, that's what it comes across as. And the effect is exacerbated when the thing doesn't freakin make sense. That thing looks like an obsidian blade, and it would've been cool if it was an obsidian blade or rather the space equivalent of one. They could've kept the fluff about it being an ancient Jedi weapon, no one cares about that. Mandalorians aren't mirror images of Jedi, that's Sith (or Dark Jedi). The whole point of Mandalorians (if you get past the fact that their entire existence is fan service born of a glorified extra) is that they can counter Jedi without being or possessing a direct match of their abilities, but rather through sheer will, skill and a fuckton of armament. As a callback to the midichlorians and self-inserts discussion a while back, they're the ones that fill that exacting of a relatability requirement: they're not genetic space wizards, literally anyone can be a Mandalorian if they put in the work for it. Black with the white veins -veins that move -that is what I liked -the interaction of the colors. Could be any color and have veins that move and I would still like it. I don't care if Mandalorians use lightsabers or not a blade through the head will kill them just the same.

Which is your favorite classic laser-sword? I gotta go with Vader's CrutchCricket : More of a question about the hilt & its details, less about blade color If we're talking about the hilts, none of them. They've all got obnoxious hilts I'd hate to have to actually hold for an extended duration, let alone use in an actual fight. Hell, they aren't even particularly attractive IMO. Not surprising given they were just recycled camera parts. For the youngsters who don't believe me: Insult the prequels and Lucas's shoddy written dialogue as much as you like, but at least the props were better made. The cylindrical hilts they used still bug me though, I prefer a oval or rectangular grip with rounded off edges for proper indexing. Being aware of the exact position of the edge without having to look at it is pretty bloody important when using a blade that'll cut through just about anything if you ask me. Just sayin' The ridged surfaces and smooth metal bug me a little bit too. The ridges would likely rub against the skin uncomfortably and the smooth surface wouldn't give a very good grip without the ridges. I'd just take Rahm Kota's boring but functional design, alter the grip to not be cylindrical, put in a yellow crystal and call it a day TBH. Yes I know I'm a boring old grump. You asked

Seriously. The Mandolorians back during the Mandolorian Wars were amateurs compared to what they would eventually come be if you just go by the firepower they took to war, a vibroblade, a blast pistol, and a blaster rifle or a heavy rifle or a assault carbine, or a marksman rifle. Basically a blade, pistol and rifle and enough ammunition for a days of sustained combat. Later on you would folks who would incorporate weaponry into their very combat hardsuits like Bobba and Jango Fett, and just generally carry a fuckton more of it. from flamethrowers to integrated missile launcher systems, to concussion weaponry, to light assault cannons, to disruptors. Point is you ensure survivability of the individual via the best armor and weaponry you can find, steal or scavenge. The credo of the Mandolorians is adaption, and overcoming anything and everything through effort and struggle. Its far more then just wearing a T-Slitted visor and having a certain crest on on your armor.

Is like I said before, basically Jedi Training is reduced to downloading programs in the Matrix. Do we know that it wasn't like that before? Especially for some Jedi? As I have said before I am beginning to suspect that Jedi training was more about Jedi arrogance/ maturity rather then ability. That the special talents of the Force, especially for Force sensitive individuals, was relatively easy to pull off they just wanted to make sure their Jedi had the maturity to wield such gifts responsibly.

Difference being that BioWare actually showed us an explanation (as flimsy as it might be) in the primary media whereas one has to specifically hunt down the tie-in novel and be told about Rey's "osmosis training".

if it's the hilt I choose Vader. If color blue. Anyway my favorite hilt is this one. My favorite color for a lightsaber is white. Kinda shames and embarrass me to say this but I like the Kylo's hilt too ala classic medieval sword.

What you keep calling evidence, I and many others will keep calling BS, unless they decide to re-shoot the movies what she is, it will not change. Just because you want her not to be one, doesn't change that fact. I on the other hand would like her to be an actual good character that is more than just a token put to represent certain agenda. They can fix the problem if they like, clearly they do not, but that is because they have people like you who seem to gobble anything the studios throw at you. Good on you, not so good for the franchises and characters that are suddenly being half arsed. Edit: "Stargate", Star Trek and Star Wars basically ending up with similar problems. Meh, the Stargate one is a real shame.

That the special talents of the Force, especially for Force sensitive individuals, was relatively easy to pull off they just wanted to make sure their Jedi had the maturity to wield such gifts responsibly. Yes, it was certainly established that learning to use the Force was not easy. Jedi masters of great skill were able to use their lightsabers to deflect blaster fire, and that too only up to a point, Darth Vader was able to deflect a blaster shot with his hand, but he was a Sith Lord. Master Yoda was able to deflect Sith Lightning with his bare hands, but most other Jedi needed to use Lightsabers as a focus for their Force powers in order to deflect them. (and the same goes for many other powers and skills) Yeah it's like the Sequels try to preach the agenda of mediocrity and free meal instead of sticking to the lore of meritocracy and natural talent...

Not unless someone can prove she is a self insert Except "self insert" is not the only definition for a Mary Sue. And is not the definition used for many who define Rey that way. "Mary Sue" in this case is a character who is overly idealized. One who is virtually perfect, and has no meaningful flaws (and thus, no room to grow as a character) In fact, one of the most common signs of a Mary Sue character is one who wields fantastic power, or are ludicrously talented at some important skill, beyond what should be possible given their level of training. They're just that awesome. Self-inserts are typically Mary Sues. But not all Mary Sues are author inserts.

The cylindrical hilts they used still bug me though, I prefer a oval or rectangular grip with rounded off edges for proper indexing. Being aware of the exact position of the edge without having to look at it is pretty bloody important when using a blade that'll cut through just about anything if you ask me. Actually it isn't, since the lightsaber is "all blade/edge". You don't need to worry about edge alignment, you just swing away. Which is why I suspect a lightsaber fighting style without the Force or flash would be more akin to some stick fighting martial arts than swordfighting, and even then heavily modified as you barely need any power to cut. Put full emphasis on speed and maneuverability and you should have some crossbreed of stick fighting and fencing. Stick fencing? All you're trying to do is touch the other person with the glowy bit. Interesting. I'd assumed that lightsabers had a conventional flat blade with an edge because the first time we see Luke waving one about it appears to be flat. If anybody needs citation, watch this at 0.25X speed from 31 second in: PS: Your dad murdered 30 kids with it
Turns out that was just a side effect of the way the blade special effects were added in post production. It also seems that you're right and that they're actually supposed to be rounded, judging by photos from the prequels and this quote from Vergere: "A lightsaber is an interesting weapon. A blade unique in the history of warfare. A paradox, not unlike the Jedi who wield it: those peaceful warriors, who kill in the service of life. Have you ever noticed? The blade is round. It has no edge. But it is a lightsaber—which means it is nothing but edge. There is no part of this blade that does not cut. Curious, yes? Symbolic, one might say."That would be a damn weird weapon to use, and not much like any sword I've ever handled or even heard of, that's for sure. I'd still prefer a rectangular grip with rounded edges just for the ergonomics though.

This is nice. One thing that TLJ did well was Hux. In the first movie he was a total joke, but in TLJ he was actually likable and competent. I love the scene where Kylo is unconscious and Hux deliberates slitting his throat.

All that was missing was him tripping over mouse droids and knocking himself unconscious. Guess we didn't see the same movie.

Other than that though I did like him but you know people have different opinions and all that...
