I didn't even get my first full exposure to the EU until just a handful of weeks prior to TLJs release. And even at that, all I managed to read before seeing the movie was the Thrawn Trilogy. Saying I did not like The Last Jedi because it did not hold true to the old cannon is a pointless statement. I recommend the Darth Bane trilogy as well. Ehhh, you can do worse, but you can also do a lot better. Personally I really like the Courtship of Princess Leia and the X-Wing series as introductory pieces to the EU. I think they serve well in that regard, either that or you can leap right into something like the Coruscant Night trilogy or something.

There's passing the torch, then there's flushing them down the toilet. I suppose they could have treated the original characters worse, but I'd be hard-pressed to figure out how. This isn't about the EU novels. They were certainly hit or miss. It's about the ORIGINAL CHARACTERS and actually progressing them across thirty years, and letting them step aside gracefully, rather than turning them into broken failures that they can off one by one so the next generation can show off their awesomeness. I don’t agree that they did that at all.

Welp, that being said. I'm starting to get a good feeling about Solo.

The Solo movie has to be the only Disney era movie I'm not excited for. Mostly because Han Solo was never a character I liked even as a child, as an adult I like him even less.
Child me was all about Leia, Chewie, R2 and Vader. Child me also wanted the Empire to win so the traditional 'heroes' didn't really stand a chance in the likeability stakes. Sorry Luke.

It does look good, especially when taking of all the behind the scenes drama into account. While I'm not going to hold my breath, I am rather looking forward to Solo.
Although... I must say it will be funny if it turns out pretty decent like Rogue One, which had its own troubles before releasing.

Rogue One and TLJ aren’t among them.

I fear if some of you people wrote Game of Thrones Ned Stark would have charged off that executioner's block and proceed to kill all the Lannisters on the stage.
The point of the Last Jedi's narrative is that heroes are just people too who can make mistakes but sometimes that does not matter because we can still choose to be heroes.

Do you like any of the acting on GoT? All the Lannisters. By far and away the cast of the Lannisters blow everyone on that show away (well Sean Bean is still very cool too. Season 1 is my fave). Even loved Gods of Egypt very much due to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau capturing the spirit of Jaime Lannister in that role too.

So far, Rogue One has been the one great thing Disney has actually contributed to the Star Wars universe. I'm not saying it couldn't have been better, but it was a damn fine movie in its own right. I really, really, REALLY hope Solo follows suit. I'll be seeing that one in theaters on the halfway decent chance that Ron Howard(a very good filmmaker who has made several movies that I have enjoyed thoroughly) managed to pull a decent Star Wars film out of that production. He's the reason I have any hope at all for that movie.
As for Episode IX? I honestly can't think of any reason I'd want to see that movie. I'd love to see it bomb, but it won't. It'll still make a profit. But the thing is it needs to make a bigger profit than if Disney had just let that $4 Billion they used to get Star Wars accrue interest. Not to mention the money Disney has poured into Star Wars since the purchase.
I'm really curious as to whether the purchase of Star Wars will have been a profitable endeavor for Disney, if the blowback from TLJ will be as big as I think it will.
Really good video on this(I'm not a huge fan of this channel in general, but this video is the first one that really showed me the real financial situation with Star Wars these days):

What is this assumption that good, beloved, characters must be treated 'nicely'? I fear if some of you people wrote Game of Thrones Ned Stark would have charged off that executioner's block and proceed to kill all the Lannisters on the stage. Was done better when: Han Solo was going to just take the money and run, but instead turned back and helped Luke destroy the Death Star Lando betrayed Han and Leia to Vader and then turned around and helped rescue them Luke hared off to face Vader before he was ready, got soundly beaten, and had to be rescued by the very people he was there to save. Vader, seeing his son being tortured to death, turned on the man he served for twenty years and sacrificed himself to kill the Emperor. The heroes of the original trilogy were A farmer A smuggler The princess of a dead world. They chose to be heroes. But Disney decided they weren't good neough, and broke them in order to trot out their OWN heroes.

I would only consider seeing Solo if they had Lena Headey in it instead of Clarke.
