Well, I went as saw Solo last night. So here's a perspective from someone who HATES The Last Jedi: Context(skip if you don't care): I'll admit that I was always interested in the Solo movie for a variety of reasons. I like Alden Ehrenreich, and the supporting cast looked really good with the exception of Emilia Clarke(hugely overrated, IMO). I like Lord & Miller and even after they were fired, I LOVE Ron Howard's work. Unlike some of my Disney Star Wars-hating brethren, I'm not the type to think that ONLY Harrison Ford could ever play Han Solo. Some said the same about anyone but Alec Guinness playing Oni-Wan, but Ewan McGregor knocked it out of the park. And I thought that there's definitely a story to be told, and I was fine if it was different then the Han Solo adventures books I read as a kid.
The only reason I refused to see it the first week is because of The LAst Jedi. The movie was an abomination, IMO. And when Solo crashed and burned that first week, I cheered a little bit, hoping that this would wake Disney and Lucasfilm up to the fact that The Last Jedi screwed up royally, and the words their creative team have said about the critics have only compounded the problem. But I was also very sad. The previews for Solo looked fine. The movie looked like it was worth seeing. But when it had a 77% Friday-to-Friday drop, I figured I should see the film before it left theaters when it faced real competition. And as I said before, Solo was already an intriguing movie for me. Also, I have MoviePass. Use it or lose it. Actual Review(non-spoilerey): Style and world-building: It's actually a really good movie. Stylistically, it's dark. Lots of shadows and dark settings. Really gives off a criminal underworld vibe. I love the new aliens and creatures it added to the Star Wars mythos. And I am glad it finally dealt with the reality of fuel in the Star Wars universe. The Last Jedi touched on it(not one of my complaints about the movie), but Solo expands a bit and sells it as a resource that would need smuggling. The worlds are hit and miss. Some(Correlia, the Mud Planet and Kessel) show us a few new things. The others are pretty generic Star Wars planets. But overall, the movie was very good visually.
Performances: I loved Alden Ehrenreich as Solo. I thought he was the best part of the movie, as far as an individual's acting performance. Chewbacca is as great, as he always is. L3-37 was hilarious. If the movie was pushing an SJW narrative with her, I didn't catch it(and believe me, I was looking). Her character is played for laughs, for the most part. And as far as her and Lando having a 'thing'...not really. She's the Chewbacca to his Solo. That's all the movie portrays, really. Also, the movie really does imply that she's insane, and Lando knows it. Also as much as I don't like Emelia Clarke as an actress, she's pretty good as Qi'ra. Her character really serves the story well, and does a great job of neither hogging the spotlight from the established characters, nor fading into the background and being nothing. Same with Tobias Becket, Han's underworld mentor. The only weak performance, IMO, was Donald Glover as Lando. He's not bad, by any stretch. He's just not great, either.
Plot: The plot was really good. Nothing ground-breaking from a heist standpoint, but still really good. It's clear how Han became Han given how the story develops. The MacGuffin was cool. The ancillary characters added to the atmosphere. The villain(played delightfully by Paul Bettany, and very under-utilized) was threatening. The Empire was powerful, but very much a side-story. Stormtroopers weren't the enemy in this one, and neither were generic battle droids. Just other people. I found that refreshing in the Star Wars universe.
Overall, I'd give it an 8.5/10. Pretty good stuff. It doesn't deserve its fate at the box office, and I hope they follow it with the sequel once Episode IX crashes at the box office and Lucasfilm realizes they need to fix their sequel films. I'm talking at a X-Men: Days of Future Past level, here. My new rating of Star Wars films after Solo goes like so: 1. Return of the Jedi ---- I love happy endings, and the Emperor's Throne Room scenes are practically Shakespearean. 2. Empire Strikes Back ---- Sets the standard for Act II of the 3-act play. That twist... 3. The Phantom Menace ---- Don't care what anyone says, this movie was REALLY good. My nine-year-old self: ESPECIALLY JAR-JAR! 4. A New Hope ---- Classic. The standard by which all Star Wars should be seen. 5. Solo ---- Not at the same level as the OT, but I think it's the best of Disney's Star Wars. 6. Rogue One ---- A story I didn't know I wanted to see. A pleasant surprise. 7. Revenge of the Sith ---- Great for two reasons: Obi-Wan and Palpatine and their respective actors' performances. And Hayden wasn't bad, either. 8. Force Awakens ---- It's repetitive of A New Hope and Rey is underdeveloped, but the movie was competently made, and I actually LIKED using Luke as the MacGuffin. But TLJ took a big dump on this movie, and that really makes it hard to like. 9. Attack of the Clones ---- The worst of the good Star Wars movies. Probably always will be. Redeemed by Ewan McGregor and the Battle of Geonosis. 10. Nothing at all 11. The Last Jedi ---- Seriously, I'd just as soon Star Wars ended with Force Awakens than had this garbage. And I WANTED to like this movie. It could have been really great. *Sigh*

I respect everyone's opinion here. If you dislike the current Star Wars movies, that's fine.Just be aware that there are a lot of other fans out there (including myself) who do like the new movies, and their opinions are just as relevant as yours. We're not retards; we're not shills. It's unfair to label someone a shill, or blind fanboy. The same goes for people labeled as haters. I'm just saying that if any of you in the this thread at least have the decency to respect a 2nd opinion, then I have no problem. We're all fans here. Again, I bear no ill will to people with legitimate criticisms who at the same time respect an opposite opinion. The same goes for people on the positive side. I just have a problem with toxic & irrational thinkers out there, who lack the said decency to respect other people's opinions (whether positive or negative), and that they should cut the bull. But...if any one of you cannot find it in your heart to respect a different opinion, and insists on calling someone a shill or hater, while at the same time expecting everyone else to acknowledge your own opinion (as if yours is the only right one), then by all means:

If KK and Disney keeps up their shit, Star Wars will cease to exist due to economical reasons. Star Wars have been destroyed for a lot of fans. And let me suggest that their anger is understandable and justified. And yes, let's all be excellent to each other. But as I've already said, it doesn't matter that you like 'The Last Jedi', because in the end Star Wars will be destroyed for you too. ...Unless something happens, like a change in leadership and vision. And that's not going to happen if people don't fight for it. I liked the prequels well enough. I was annoyed that George Lucas had decided to make Star Wars into something for children. But overall I was okay with even Jar Jar Binks. I could stand it. It still felt like Star Wars to me. What KK has done, and how she thinks about Star Wars, is outside the boundaries though. And don't even get me started on Rian Johnson.

There is no reasoning in this Topic anymore... Farewell

That the culture war has brought us to this. The explanation for the false assumption in this case is probably that KK, Disney and journalists have from the start dismissed criticism against TLJ as coming from sexists and racists. The usual SJW narrative. (Makes you wonder why they think 'Wonder Woman' and 'Black Panther' escapes any problems.)

Well here are my thoughts about Lucasfilm: even though I do like the new movies so far, there are problems in Lucasfilm that need to be fixed (especially when not seeing eye to eye with other directors). They shouldn't stay too much on nostalgia, even though nostalgia can be good sometimes. However there are some people among the more reasonable fans (whether the more decent fans like or dislike the new movies) who are toxic and out of control (what's so bad about female lead for example?). They too need to stop. These are two sides of the same coin.

And there's nothing wrong with a lead who is female. What's wrong is claiming that not liking a particular female lead means you're a misogynist. Does not liking a particular MALE lead make you a misandrist?
