We definitely needed a flick about a dude that largely stood around taking orders and got eaten by a giant worm.

I could never get into Darth Maul. It doesn't help that he was in my least favourite SW movie, but it was mostly his character design, storyline and fighting style that left me cold. He is one of those character who suffers greatly from the rule of cool.

Maul and Fett are coöl för the same reasön. They böth loök coöl, are menacing and very little is knöwn aböut them. They leave it up tö the viewers imaginatiön tö fil in their backstöries. Mystery can be great för söme characters. Thats why I was against the prequels. They ruined Darth Vader. And its why I dönt want a Fett mövie.

Unpopular opinions The best Star Wars duel: Obi Wan/Qui-Gon vs Darth Maul 2nd best: Luke VS Darth Vader (ESB) 3rd: Anakin/ObiWan/Yoda vs Count Dooku 4th: Yoda vs Darth Sidious I'm not a fan of the bouncy style of fighting the prequels have. I understand that the fighting style is a parallel for the excess of the jedi and pre-empire culture in general. The Jedi are at the height of their decadence it makes sense that the fighting reflects that. Thematically it works but visually it just doesn't sit well. I actually like how the fighting styles for each batch of movies reflect their characters so well. Though I think this is mostly just a happy accident than anything thought out

That wasn't my take, I actually really enjoyed the story of the prequels, if not so much half of Episode 1, most of 2, and some of 3. I didn't feel they ruined Vader, although the virgence in the force thing was ridiculous Space Jesus - a better explanation for that from Palps would have helped in RotS. When the movies weren't directly aimed at children, I enjoyed them mostly. RotS is actually my third favorite Star Wars, after TESB and ANH.

I also enjoyed most of the prequels, I have no real problem with Ep 2 or 3, but Ep 1 is troublesome. I feel a lot of my prequel issues could be fixed with a reworking of the timeline to exclude chunks of Ep 1. Have Anakin aged up to teen years when the first Obi/Padme meeting takes place (get rid of Qui-Gon completely, Obi can take that role). Keep the pod race/slave and trade war storyline. Tone Jar Jar way down (no silly voice or over the top animations) but keep him in there, I like the pay off of him being tricked into being key to the down fall of the republic. I then don't have to deal with bad child acting, Jar Jar Goofy or Liam Neeson.

Come now, the start of Episode III had a very good presentation of their relationship. "Leave him, or we'll never make it!" "His fate will be the same as ours." "Anakin, let's be fair, today YOU were the hero. And you deserve your glorious day with the politicians." "Something, something, saving your skin for the 10th time." "9th time. That business on Cato Neimodia doesn't...doesn't count." Not to mention these two scenes: I'm not saying the prequels don't have their flaws, but I think Episode III shows the friendship of Anakin and Obi-Wan rather well.

I did not like yippie, not at all However, him building C3PO is not a problem for me. I was a pretty weird kid, and pulled off some things beyond my age. Also sliced my hand in half because I didn't know how to use a chisel properly at 4 years old, but oh well. I imagine a slave droid of that sort is common, instructions easy to find, and small hands guided by the force with amazing reflexes - sounds like a fine mechanic. I found midicholorians interesting, but troublesome. I found the humor of the droids entertaining to a degree, but too slapstick and obviously not how an artificial intelligence would act, even a dumb one. I found the kid to be annoying almost entirely, yet I loved his flight sequence and although his commentary was meh it was something a child might think - spin, that's a good trick! The Battle of the Fates made me go back to the theater five more times. Some of that was loneliness and boredom (just moved to a new city with zero friends, just a job) and some of it was obvious SW nerd is obvious. I never imagined, after TESB, that Vader was always a mustache twirling villain. Very few people are shitbags their whole lives.

I can see why people don't like the prequels as they do destroy the mystery that had surrounded Darth Vader up to that point and made him such a cool compelling villain in the original trilogy at least to me. Let's face it the "I am your father." line wouldn't have had the same shock and awe in ESB if we knew beforehand. I agree to a degree the mystery that was Darth Vader has forever been lost and that's sad.
Despite that I enjoyed the prequels even with their flaws as they told the story of the last years of the Republic and the Jedi Order and how the Galactic Empire we see in the OT came to be so in evens out to an extent.

When I showed my niece and nephews SW for the first time I stuck to the "4, 5, .. 1, 2, Tartakovsky's Clone Wars Cartoon, 3.... 6" order. That way they get the shock of the Vader reveal and then the Vader back story so going into RotJ he is a much more sympathetic character.
