I will very much stand to be corrected on this, given I can only recall watching The Phantom Menace the once - when it first came out - and I've not watched the Mandalorian, but didn't Anakin's mother say he "had no father"? If so - mildly interesting implications. Or, of course, utter coincidence I like to think Anakin's mother was referring to the dad being a deadbeat and not there being a case of immaculate conception.... For sure, was really just picking up from Heimdall's theory about "baby Yoda" being the result of a cloning experiment who happened to be born the same year as Anakin. Could be purely coincidental, of course. Either way; not too invested. TPM is the worst SW content I've ever seen, and I've not seen the Mandalorian, so don't have any opinion on it.

EDIT: Just adding a timeline note to keep it straight in my head. The Mandalorian takes place in 9ABY. So a fifty year old would have been born in 41BBY. That would be before the clone army was ordered, but interestingly it’s the same year Anakin Skywalker was born. Interesting time to be experimenting with creating force sensitives, no? Spoiler for Star Wars IX:

I have a weird relationship with TPM that probably stems from being 8 when I first saw it. Basically, I was the target demographic. I loved it and I thought Jar Jar Binks was hilarious.
Now I watch it and I know it isn’t great, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t still find Pod Racing fun. Jar Jar doesn’t even bother me as much as some people because I know that he does the job of entertaining small children effectively.
AotC is worse for me because it contains the full horror that is George Lucas’ attempt at writing/directing romantic dialogue.

Jar Jar doesn’t even bother me as much as some people because I know that he does the job of entertaining small children effectively. AotC is worse for me because it contains the full horror that is George Lucas’ attempt at writing/directing romantic dialogue. I agree. Jar Jar can be a bit grating, but he can also be adorable and pitiful. And Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman and ESPECIALLY Ian McDiamid do a lot of heavy lifting to make that movie work. And it has by far the franchise's most gorgeous ships. Admidala's Nubian, the Naboo starfighters and the Gungan "bongo" submarine are objectively beautiful to see flying/floating around. Naboo in general has really great aesthetics. I'm not as down on AotC's dialogue as I used to be either. I was a nineteen-yearold guy too once, and while I think I handled it better than Anakin does - mostly by knowing when to shut up - I also definitely can't claim not to have said a bunch of moronic and sappy and tonedeaf shit trying to impress pretty girls. And to be fair, the most egregious of Anakin's lines come right after Padme brags about having had lots of parties on the beach with her rich friends... in front of an impoverished ex-slave who grew up in the desert. She clearly isn't trying to be patronizing, but it makes sense for him to feel really intimidated and have a hard time making conversation with her. Especially in some of the costumes Natalie Portman sports in those scenes. I think part of the problem is that Christian Hayden looks older and more developed than Anakin is supposed to feel at that point, so when he acts clueless and awkward it's doubly jarring because it feels like someone "his" age should be more together, and he comes off as a creepy childish weirdo rather than the innocently needy and hormone-possessed teenager we've all been. It also doesn't help that he spends much of the movie standing next to Obi-Wan, the epitome of maturity, composure, eloquence and sensitivity.

There was that mandalorian ladyboss/smith so Anita is plain wrong. Or just trolling people. Second episode has only one female too by the way.

Mando are a very inviting culture by default, race, species, sex do not matter. What does matter is the ability to learn, the willingness to embrace a greater culture, to view the clan as family, to view the society and codes that dictate as law, father and God.

I'm inclined to agree. Not that it "normalizes patriarchy" , but that the fact that there's no female characters outside that one room in the Mandalorian enclave makes the first two episodes feel a bit too... utilitarian? Which is mostly a good thing, but also feels a tiny bit too intense? Like any time you walk into a bar full of only guys, doing their thing, and there's not quite enough oxygen in the room, and you know that if there had been just one woman then somebody would probably have opened a window. Kuliil could have had a wife on that ranch of his. The cantina where we meet Carl Weathers could have had a female bartender or a waitress Mando had to deal with. Twenty seconds spent per episode on stuff like that would have made it less obvious how tight a ship they're trying to run and how far down to its bare bones they've ground the Western formula. And then we'd only have had to listen to the usual complaints about women merely being marginalized rather than kicked off set entirely. It in no way ruins my enjoyment of either episode, and I think shooting singular episodes of television without women in them, or men for that matter, should be considered perfectly fine. But I also do think I would have felt more relaxed watching these first two if there had been a little more estrogen sprinkled in here and there.

Are we really gonna start this? The "Not enough women" argument? Because if a tv show or movie or whatever doesn't have woman it's immediately bad and patriarchy inducing? Anita is a fucking joke, and all the blue check mark crowd arguing for the sake or arguing about MUH WAMEN. Like, quite literally is that why they watch something, because there's woman on it? And if there isn't, then it's time to sharpen the keyboard? Then we'll have the trans crowd complaining about lack of representation, and the gay crowd, and all the other stuff in between. And then not enough "race" representation. Can't we just enjoy the show for what it is without the constant need to appeal the social garbage media and be politically correct?

As I said before, some people post in this thread just to start flame wars... Just skip over that post. Especially now that we have something good in the SW universe, like The Mandalorian and Fallen Order. Enjoy and let them bathe in their own misery.

And taken as such it's definitely fun time. But I can't watch it with any other mind set, because I just can't take it seriously. Which is fine, because to me New Hope and Return of the Jedi are also kid movies (well, I saw them as a kid)
Take Anakin and Padme out and AoTC is not a bad adventure as well I watched somewhere a cut of all their scenes put together. The cringe, omg... He should be arrested and she needs counseling for Stockholm syndrome

Make sure you get the market for it before starting to sell. Looks like Favreau also has a good business head.

The fact that Mandalorian premiered right before episode IX looks suspicious. Do you guys think that events of the series might have some impact on the movie? Yes. I'm fairly positive that events in The Mandalorian tie into the story of Episode IX. That is why the last episode of the season comes out after IX hits theaters.

The fact that Mandalorian premiered right before episode IX looks suspicious. Do you guys think that events of the series might have some impact on the movie? I hope not. Probably the best thing the show has going for it is its complete separation from the new trilogy. Viewers can just pretend it's part of the old EU instead.
