While any hope I might have had for the Star Wars franchise as a whole perished in flames long ago, I do find it good that people finally something to appreciate about the desiccated corpse of something that brought us all joy long ago.
...Huh got really 40k there all of a sudden, ehhh if it works it works.

50 year old toddler makes no sense. Yoda was 900 when he died, meaning toddler to old guy ratio for Yoda's species is 1 to 9. If we use the same ratio for humans it would mean that humans become old when they are 9-27 y.o. (human toddlers are children between 1 and 3 years old).

What if li'l Yoda only looks tiny.
I mean, he already uses the Force. Can walk.
Just can't talk. Maybe he just had enough of everyone's shit after the first forty years?

Maybe Yoda’s species has a long toddlerhood but then matures very quickly, it needn’t be a 1:1 to humans.
I think they chose 50 years very deliberately. That would put this baby’s birth around the same time the clone army was first commissioned from Kamino. And some have pointed out that the scientist character has a patch on his arm that looks a lot like the one clones had on their kamino jumpsuits.

I thought this series was a sequel and not a prequel (or in between) ? I'm getting super confused here. Isn't Yoda far gone by then? Quote: When does The Mandalorian take place? Favreau has said that The Mandalorian is set five years after the fall of the Empire in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983) and 25 years before the rise of the First Order, the authoritarian regime that is firmly in control of the galaxy when Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015) begins.

So it's set during the events of Heir to the Empire

Lucas previously stopped writers from exploring Yoda's species but i think we should come up with a name for them until Filoni officialy reveals it. So far i only came up with these names, Yoddle, and Yoddling.

EDIT: Just adding a timeline note to keep it straight in my head. The Mandalorian takes place in 9ABY. So a fifty year old would have been born in 41BBY. That would be before the clone army was ordered, but interestingly it’s the same year Anakin Skywalker was born. Interesting time to be experimenting with creating force sensitives, no?

Yoda's people are obviously a subspecies of Gremlins. A similarly mishandled merchandise opportunity also right around Christmastime, if I remember right. They conquered Earth and chased humanity out among the stars, and then turned to intense study of Mindfulness to curb their inner Stripes over thousands of years, developing an intuitive connection to the Force as a result. Then they started sending their most enlightened members out into the galaxy to spread the good word, and to erase their planet's existence from the history holocrons so that men would forget, and never seek revenge. Have you ever seen Yoda take a bath? I don't think so. It's canon. I'm not that worried about whether Baby Yoda is going to tie into the sequel trilogy, or any other movies set within the foreseeable future. If it's spent 50 years maturing to the point of a human toddler then the best we can hope for by The Rise of Skywalker is that it might be toilet trained. IG-11 must be right that it ages in a weird way though, as skekSil pointed out. Even aside from the obvious issues with any creature being dependent on others for protection for so long, Yoda lived to be 900 where a human might live to 90-100. Roughly ten times longer. Which would make a 50-yearold Green Gremlin proportionately 5 years old, give or take. And Baby Ýoda doesn't seem half that. Maybe it has spent a period of its life in cryo sleep. Or maybe Yoda actually died young for his species, and what did him in was a lifetime of stress and ridiculous acrobatics finally taking their toll rather than old age.

I will very much stand to be corrected on this, given I can only recall watching The Phantom Menace the once - when it first came out - and I've not watched the Mandalorian, but didn't Anakin's mother say he "had no father"? If so - mildly interesting implications. Or, of course, utter coincidence

I know people call it baby Yoda because it looks like him and because there's no known species. But when they started talking about the clone army, Kamino, and what not, I just got lost completely. Wasn't aware of the cloning theory.
