Honestly the Star Wars timeline never really has made sense in universe and out of universe...and it still doesen't. BBY and ABY just wouldn't be a significant enough event in universe to justify reworking the calender...and neither does Starkiller base. BFE/ AFE- Before/ After Foundation Empire And BBA/ABA- Before/ After Birth of Anakin Skywalker makes a lot more sense in universe. Hell if they were still a thing you could also probably get away with using the Yuuzhan Vong invasion as the divide in the timeline too... I know lore nuts care more about this stuff, but it seems to me that the most immediate bits of the timeline are the things that really matter much in the movies or any series, none of which really require specific dates to make a difference in the narrative.

Malaka
So if anyone's curious the Rise of Skywalker novelization comes out in March. Now this is probably only the second novelization I'm even interested in...but its hella expensive and comes out the same month as Tevinter Nights.

Braced myself for a Revenge of the Sith viewing in anticipation of noticing some annoying inconsistency with the new sequels, and, yep(!!!), in first act of the space fight Obi-Wan's fighter gets covered with buzz droids and the battle cruiser crash lands on Coruscant - no Force powers used to shove off buzz droids (might just be a lack of imagination in RotS), and no Force powers to try to control the descent of the battle cruiser.😖

So, after letting my thoughts on these movies marinate for a bit I feel confident in my various listicles I've been kind of wanting to do, since I do like doing lists apparently. So for my list of favorite Star Wars movies: 1. Episode 6 Reutrn of the Jedi/ Episode 9 the Rise of Skywalker: These movies were the perfect ends to their respective trilogies. So much build up, so many things paid off to where I can't imagine a better ending to either the Original Trilogy or the Skywalker Saga as a whole. Rise wrapped everything up nicely while continuing to offer some new insights in the Forceand the universe at large. Both of these movies left me entirely satisfied to the point that whatever limited flaws they had were very easy to overlook. Stories of redemption in the face of great evil, or love and sacrifice, and a true testement to film as a medium. 2. Episode 7: The Force Awakens- Despite Episode 3 ending off in a good place for the series there was a lot of trepidation going in. Episodes 1 and 2 were less then ideal, the Force Unleashed was a disaster and JJ Abrams had made some great movies that I had seen...but I wasn't really expecting something...lesser. But I was wrong. This movie came in like a warm security blanket and gave its assurances that the franchisewas in good hands and that everything was going to be fine. It introduced us to some terrific new characters, Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren,had some great concepts...visually spectacular with a lot of pleasing moments, and was just...fun. 3. Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith: Cracks start to show here. On the one hand it has the best opening and climax of any of the Star Wars movies (probably) but on the other Vader's turn to the dark side was haphazard and that romance scene between him and Padme at the start is still the stuff of nightmares. Ewan McCgregor was peak Obi-Wan, Palpetine engaged in a master stroke at the end, and Hayden Christensen even managed to be passable as Anakin Skywalker as the 'prequels' came to an epic end. 4. Episode 8: The Last Jedi. A lot of this movie did better in the things that I felt was lacking in Empire, and still did a few things that previous movie did. Holdo was horrible, the Space Chase Plot was overdrawn, and the pacing still left a little to be desired. However the First Order was still portrayed as largely Units despite their lack of competence, Rey and Kylo's relationship continued to get some development in this movie (it was a treat watching this 'dyad in the Force' stand together) and Luke Skywalker had an amazing character driven story in this one...last but not least it showed an important message for the ages worth repeating and helped redeam the Jedi in my eyes as they were for Luke. 5. Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back: So this movie has the most topsy turvy relationship for me of the SWs movies. I've hated it. I've loved it, and now I just really like it. Despite its popularity it does have some...interesting...problems. Its pacing sucks, the Empire's incompetence in this movie borders on bad writing, it has weird popcorn philosophy, and for a movie titled 'the Empire Strikes Back' the Rebellion is left in a really good place at the end of it. However the characters are great, it does a solid job of recontexualizing the relationship between Vader and Luke in order to set up the final battle in Episode 6, it introduces the Imperial March and has probably the most iconic plot twist in cinema history. Still a great movie. 6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story- This movie felt largely...heartless...Jyn Erso's character is a bit of a mess and many of the other characters don't get a lot of time to shine. K2SO and Chirrut the exceptions to that rule...still it has one of the best written battles in the franchise and has Vader actually being terrifying again. Well done. 7. Episode 4: A New Hope- So this is a movie that is honestly a bit boring. Though it did start Star Wars off so kudos for that and also gave I can't really point to a lot of what this movie did 'wrong'. 8. Solo: A Star Wars Story- The origin story no one wanted and we didn't need it still managed to do an OK job at the end of the day filling in some of the plot holes from A New Hope. Emilia Clarke was pretty great as Qi'ra and there was some fun little action sequences here. The music was overdrawn though. *shivers* 9. Episode 1: A Phantom Menace- This movie is largely saved because of Duel of the Fates with an assist from the Podrace sequence but would set up a lot of what would plague the next two movies. Uninspired politics, corny poorly executed romance subplots...etc. At the end of the day a descent enough movie. 10. Episode 2: Attack of the Clones- This movie *almost* warrants a Tier 5 rating. It is just on that borderline. Sometimes I don't know what saves it from being that kind of garbage but really the Geinosis sequence was fun...I guess. And Ewan McCregor was still pretty great as his second attempt at Obi-Wan so yeah, the cast probably does just barely managed to save it with Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmud.

Well, saying "Palpatine returned because we so creatively bankrupt all we can do is make a twisted reflection of the original trilogy and call it ours" wouldn't be very good PR...

Just to highlight ANH and TFA parallels, anyone else notice now fast Luke develops that attachment to Kenobi in, like, 2 days maybe? Very similar to how fast Rey develops an attachment to Han.
Except Luke just had his surrogate family murdered a few days prior.
Hell, just realized both Luke and Leia lose their surrogate families in ANH - kind of a downer. I'm sure some attentive, creative authors did something with that in EU, cuz no one seems to notice it in the movies hence.
P.S. It is surprising how well ANH holds up by current visual standards. The added computer generated shots are starting to look dated, but all the cleanup up practical effects, composite shots with miniature models still look great!
P.P.S The time from RotS to ANH is about 20 years. So, mind-wiped C3P0 and R2D2 were together for 20 years before C3PO said, "Fuck it, I'm done!" after they crash land on Tatooine? That must have been some relationship.

Probably posted something like this before but this does tend to highlight just how much the Jedi contributed to the problem. Which its funny with all this talk of balance and dyads the Jedi and the Sith were quite the pair in the Old Republic. One served the light, peace, and tranquility, the other served darkness, agression, passion...yet both were convinced that there way was the right way. Both of them tried to rule and use their influence to effect events. I guess Palpetine was right the Jedi and the Sith really were alike in almost everyway.

Just to highlight ANH and TFA parallels, anyone else notice now fast Luke develops that attachment to Kenobi in, like, 2 days maybe? Very similar to how fast Rey develops an attachment to Han. Except Luke just had his surrogate family murdered a few days prior. Not just lost his surrogate family: Was told his father was a space wizard That he could be a space wizard too (And he was pretty desperate to get off-world and adventure and fight the Empire) Ob-Won was a friend of his father's, could tell Luke all about him, and TEACH HIM TO BE A SPACE WIZARD!!!

Seriously, was something like this so difficult?

Speaking of Darth Maul the cherry on top for Rey's vision in Rise would've been to have Sam Witer reprise the role. (Maybe even throw in Revan too) The implication being that there would even be those on the darkside that would want to see this cycle end. It may've been enough to finally redeam the character for me.
Plus Rey could've then said "And i... serve the will of the Force!"

From Star Wars episode 1 to 6, a grand total of ONE planet was blown up by the Death Star, which took 20 years to build. Then TFA came around, and all of a sudden we discover that AFTER the Empire was kicked out out of power the First Order was building weapons that eat Stars (so.. a much more literal Death Star ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/RebJidSPcxyF0U0Rr0uW.png) ) AND blows up 4 planets at once! ...FROM ANOTHER SYSTEM!!! As a singular threat, the Death Star supplied a suitably existential expression of super power for the Rebels to fight against - why would that power x5 be even necessary for another threat in a movie? Same clowns that thought x100 from RoS I guess.

One of my two big problems with TFA...but the Sith Eternal fleet was truly terrifying.
