.__. It just makes me sad but its true As I've said before this character basically had infinite potential to be whatever the writers needed and it was utterly squandered

1) This part of discussion has become pointless as the rest has moved on long ago. I can only suggest that you dont use 'funamentally annoying' as it is really confusing what you mean by that. And also, IMHO, even simple annoyance is an overreaction to two points in question. 2) and I shared my opinion that it is not worth being annoyed about and you should relax, as in take a deep breath and stop being annoyed its not a big deal. Im sorry if it upset you. 3) I get to have an opinion on whatever I please, same goes for you. But if you share your opinion online dont be surprised that people disagree with you. 4) My argument is - if a 'problematic' point does not take up significant amount of time in a movie, does not seriously internal logic of a movie and (this part is very important) is there to make a scene it is part of to work then it is probably not a big deal. All movies have breaks from realism especially sci-fi movies, including OT Star Wars. 5) Its impossible for a single guy to defeat an entire army. And would Commando really be a better movie if it was more realistic and didnt have other scenes like Arnie jumping out of a plane, ripping out a seat out of a car, holding a guy by his leg or impaling Bennet with a steam pipe? Because I think without them it would be a generic forgettable action flick. 6) I meant they've seen enough of toxic sequel hater to simply not bother anymore. Inductive reasoning you know. 7) Yes I did. You presented a problem: why do people who like TLJ refuse to discuss it? And you present an answer to it: ' either because they know where it'll end and don't like it or because they subjectively like the story so much that they'll make up anything they have to to avoid admitting that it objectively sucks ass.' 'Either...or...' structure implies that these answers are the only possible ones. All I have to do to prove that it is a false dichotomy is to show that at least one other answer exists. There might be numerous other reasons. To prove your point that all reasons to avoid discussions make sequel fans look bad you must provide an actual exhoustive list of all possible motivations and then explain how every one of them makes sequel fans look bad. 8) I didnt accuse you of accusing me either, where did that come from? 1) Here's a thought: Next time you're confused about what someone means, ask them instead of assuming that they're enraged and irrational just because they calmly commented on something you personally didn't feel worth commenting on. 2) You do understand that people don't have conscious control over what does or does not annoy them, right? I'm bewildered by your idea that being annoyed, which literally means only slightly bothered, is something someone should calm down from, let alone enough to require breath exercises to balance out the blood pressure, let alone need your guidance to deal with. Do you have to take a deep breath and step back for a moment when you drop your keys and momentarily have to bend down for them? If so then I'm sorry, that's not a very common problem. 3) That's just plain hypocritical. You can't reasonably say that people having and expressing whatever opinion is entirely fair, and then get on my case about sharing a particular thought because you don't like me having it. If you stuck to this idea you would just have ignored my comment because you would obviously have accepted that my priorities differ from yours, or simply said that you aren't personally concerned about the same things, instead of arguing why it's wrong or unreasonable for me to point something out by making assumptions about my state of mind. 4) That's a fair thought. Except... what if that was every single scene? What if literally not a single scene passed without something individually minor that nonetheless undermined the overall story, or several such somethings? You wouldn't find that worth commenting on just because none of the particular issues break the story in a major way even thought hey all helped bring the work down? Because I'd argue that The Last Jedi is a definite example of that. And the scene with Leia does break the story in a major way. She should have been a husk floating around in space miles and miles behind the ship by the time she's shown to open her eyes, and should obviously have died. Rian Johnsom suddenly deciding that the ships aren't engaged in a chase in that specific moment means that a major character of the franchise survived to further complicate things later, and opened the door for her awkward pieced-together posthumous appearance that helped undermine the next movie in several other ways. Those are pretty big story consequences, which means that the illogical method of her survival is objectively not a nitpick. It's a problem. A nitpick is something inconsequential. 5) It's totally possible for a single guy to defeat an entire army. Just ridiculously unlikely, unless circumstances have been massively stacked in his favor. And your worry that the movie would be less interesting without those quirky scenes assumes that they couldn't happen with good writing, which is just untrue. Plenty of great movies have surreal and hilarious moments as a consequence of perfectly realistic and believable events. Quirky and surreal moments happen in real life all the time without it being the result of writers suddenly messing around with the laws of physics or causality to make them happen. You can still have Arnie ripping the seat out of a car, jumping out of a plane or impaling someone with a steam pipe in an action movie that makes sense. It'd just require a bit more thorough work on the writers' part. Which is why it's called good writing. 6) Hehe. You of all people tried to make a point about inductive reasoning. And it doesn't help at all. Please give me an example of something fundamentally more toxic and insane than considering a discussion toxic just because you don't agree with the opposition and don't like that they disagree with you. Like, of all the different ideas and mentalities humanity could potentially later point to as being the reason the world ended, that ranks pretty high up there. I stand my ground. I'd never seriously respect the opinion of someone who would call others toxic or hateful over differing opinions on a movie, or assume the same of their motivations. It speaks to such a total lack of perspective and understanding that I'd honestly want to throw up if I ever realized that I'd said or typed those words myself. And the idea that people can do so while inwardly considering themselves more openminded and rational than anyone else is deeply disturbing to me. Or, to do them credit, maybe some people are just incapable of phrasing ideas like 'the discussion seems too intense and detailed for me' and 'I don't feel invested enough to really go into it like that' without offhandedly trying to villainize and dehumanize others to save face. Which I guess is a slightly less pathetic and disturbing thought. 7) Fair enough, I generalized. My overall point still stands. The reasons people have for avoiding discussion on the movies while still insisting that their opinions should be counted tend not to be that they can support their opinions by referencing what actually happens in the movies, but choose not to for whatever reason. And even if that was inexplicably the case, that people who don't like the Star Wars sequels in particular really are just "toxic" "haters" who aren't worth talking to on the subject, the ruling, if there was to be such a thing, must necessarily still fall in favor of those willing to put forth arguments over those who aren't. 8) And I didn't say that you accused me of accusing you of anything. As I said, there's no reason to be so defensive. If you reply to this with the same format of pulling my arguments apart and mixing them with your own and forcing me to manually extract yours again if I want them to be visible in my own post without it being three posts in one, then I'm not going to reply back. I'll still read your response, I promise, but that'll be it. Unless there's some way to automatically remove all my old input from your post in one go, in which case I'd love to know about it. I enjoy discussing with you, believe it or not, but I seriously don't enjoy untangling almost twenty small individual posts from each other and trying to make it look cohesive in the coding.
