I don't think the perception of Episode 2 has changed over time. For some reason Episode 2 had the biggest impact on me when first seen it with that introduction to Coruscant city and all Obi-Wan/Jango Fett side of the story. Though when I seen it last year, those romance scenes we so painful (however the sand line is now cool) and cut in between all the great parts. Making it hard to fast forward past it. Downloaded the anti-cheese fan edit of trilogy this year and hoping they will help. Really? Are you pulling my leg?

I agree. There is a lot wrong with the film but you see a lot of "Star Wars TLJ: DIE MALES DIE" out there on youtube. And that is just ludicrious because the main hero of the film and largely its protagonist, is a male. Its sometimes hard to distinguish between the criticisms, but I am trying, which is why I am still around here engaging the community. If anything, the crazy people are making it harder to land serious criticisms on the film.

What else is there to know about the character? It's the same problem that Solo as for me. It's completely unnecessary backstory. I think people want an Obi-Wan movie simply because Ewan McGregor would be the right age for one.

Downloaded the anti-cheese fan edit of trilogy this year and hoping they will help. Really? Are you pulling my leg? After seeing it for the first time on release it set my imagination for the expanded universe on fire, to the point where I would day dream about that world before sleep. Well, more like trying to write a story in that universe in my mind which helped me sleep because I would always end up writers block that always resulted in putting me to sleep. So it was a perfect method for those rare days where I couldn't fall asleep due to mind being too active. Now you guys may think I must have came up with a massive story line by now, but lol, there's barely any progress to it and constant rewrites to what little I had. So yeah, I'm no writer, but it was still fun and to this day nothing has inspired this in me.

Interesting to see Polygon wade into the debate: It’s time to start ignoring the Star Wars haters"...the real backlash, the nasty, immature one, is much smaller than the online noise would have you believe. Anger above all else. ...The loudest online criticism has had a nasty sexist and sometimes racist undertone that makes it hard to take seriously. And there’s little evidence that this backlash extended through the fandom or even hurt the movie at the box office. ...The ton of their complaints betrays how angry and out of control they feel now that their favorite movie series no longer caters to them exclusively. They want the past back, just like a certain other angry white guy who is portrayed as a somewhat pathetic figure in the films."www.polygon.com/2018/1/17/16901340/star-wars-last-jedi-fan-controversy-rotten-tomatoesI think the article does a disservice to some fans with legitimate concerns who are not as bonkers as the ones Polygon describes. Though there are some of those out there with the power of the internet. It will be fascinating to see how the perception of TLJ ages over time, and in particular how it is viewed when it comes time for episode IX to drop. People can't be judged by the content of their character or the strength of their arguments. Nope, we must use their ancestry against them. God forbid a white guy be allowed to criticize the direction of a franchise without being belittled for his sex and his race. I'd like Episode IX to redeem TLJ. I really would. I just don't see, at this time, how that's possible. There was such a dropdown of quality filmaking between FA and TLJ, I couldn't believe what I was watching in that theater. Long-term, I really think that opinions of the sequel trilogy will decline. It's not nearly as timeless as the OT, nor is it as world-building as the PT. For all it's flaws, the PT made the Star Wars universe a lot larger and more expansive than the OT did. The ST has yet to do this. The story they are telling is both small, and not nearly the quality of the OT. They've got one more movie to prove me wrong(and hey, if I'm wrong, I'll be among the first to admit it), but I'll be wary going in to Episode XI. I never felt the need to be wary going into a Star Wars film until now. That makes me far sadder than I expected it to. All of this being said, I have an open mind about the Solo movie, Emilia Clarke notwithstanding. I'm hoping Solo is terrible just so this thread can agree on something.

It's on par with ROTJ in my book like TFA was. If I had one main gripe about the film is that it didn't exceed ROTJ among the Star Wars films and it could have. That said, all these "glaring flaws" that the most manic see aren't filmkillers. Even Rose and I agree she was tangential at best. Just quit throwing EU novels out there like they're the greatest works in SF of all time when they clearly aren't and diverging from them really didn't matter.

Just quit throwing EU novels out there like they're the greatest works in SF of all time when they clearly aren't and diverging from them really didn't matter. Yeah, except you say stuff like this and name drop Herbert earlier and then go to dismiss them like anyone was seriously making that comparison. Strawman much? Shouldn't someone with that level of a huffy opinion about SF sneer at the mere mention of it and Star Wars in the same sentence? I'm gonna go ahead and conclude the novels aren't your cup of tea (which is fine), therefore this is pointless. For the rest of us, we'll take our superior to Mickey Wars in every way "sort of sci space-opera fantasy fiction thing" EU and just be over here.
