I'm not sure how the first pic relates to SW, but I'll take it: it's beautiful!

Geee, you guys make it seem like I want to defend TLJ. It's the worst thing to happen to humanity since the flat earthers, but this whole hyperspace thing is very clearly and coherently explained in the EU, as I said before. When you realize you have Autism

It's the worst thing to happen to humanity since the flat earthers, but this whole hyperspace thing is very clearly and coherently explained in the EU, as I said before. I'll defend it! The Millennium Falcon looks SICK, especially in comparison to Solo. I believe this flying is all Chewie! P.S. Does "sick" still mean "good"? Cuz it used to mean illness, then it was slang for "good" (especially for break dancing), then that went out of favor for a decade, then I started hearing it again mean "good" - I'm hoping it still means "good".

I'm not sure how the first pic relates to SW, but I'll take it: it's beautiful! Two giant AT-AT's walking. One heading toward us (middle of the picture of the skyline). The other heading to the left (on far right of the picture of the skyline).

Not really. Accelerating is how you increase your orbit - the "height" you're "flying" at. Is like the filled bucket. Rotate it slow and the water comes out. Rotate fast and it stays in when you windmill it around. If that makes sense. Think is: you increse the orbit on the opposite side of your current position on the "circle". So any changes only go gradually in effect slowly. Most of the mechanics I learned with KSP, a neat little indie game where you create rockets and shoot them to simple orbits. I could be wrong I suppose. My understanding was that in order for a slingshot to work (effectively) you need to have both minimum speed and a specific trajectory. But I'm hardly an expert. You're correct. The setup must be very precise. But 'pushing' on bombs and their resulting trajectory has nothing to do with slingshots. The purpose of a slingshot, or gravity assist maneuver, is to increase or decrease the velocity of the vessel without using its own energy and propellant. A slingshot will always drastically change your direction and trajectory, so, of course, need very careful preplanning, and very high precision, speed, timing and course, in navigating the entry into the gravity assist. Escape trajectory and velocity gain come as a fixed package. You cannot modify one without affecting the other. 1. You need a body with significant gravity. 2A. If you're in an orbit around a body (which is pretty much always the case, if you're not in orbit around a planet you're usually in orbit around the Sun), it cannot be the body you're in orbit around. 2B. If you're not, then you're either in an escape trajectory away from the Sun and can use whatever body coming in your way, or falling into the Sun and need to quickly find a miraculous slingshot or you will perish. 3. If, afterwards, you're escaping the gravity assist body (as opposed to going into orbit) you can 'only' (well, reasonably) gain energy permanently by going in the same direction (orbital direction) as the body, and by slipping in "behind" it and being 'towed' for awhile by its gravity. (Alternatively, slipping in 'ahead', you can 'brake' by a drastic course change. If we manage to reverse our own relative course so it goes into the opposite of our orbital direction, we have 'braked'). Essentially, all these maneuvers acomplish an energy transfer between the orbital energy of the assisting body and our vessel. Finding a gravity assist in the solar system is pretty hard, since the planets don't appear in the right relative positions often. Finding one locally, with a moon, is easier because the orbital period of moons is much shorter. But moons don't offer so much assist since they're lacking in gravity. Back in the old days, the situation that pretty much drove the project with the two, stunningly successful, Voyager probes, was that the planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were coming up in almost perfect positions. As I have perceived it, I think it won't happen again for hundreds of years. As it happened, Voyager 1's course around Saturn was modified in order to get a close flyby on Titan, thus Voyager 1 never visited any more planets. This is also why Pluto wasn't visited by a probe until 'New Horizons' did it recently. This was Voyager 1's mission. Voyager 2 managed to visit both Uranus and Neptune. Pluto is in a different plane.

Funny, I would say it is THEY who are the childish human garbage. Any "adult" who mindlessly eats up any/all corporate drivel, with little regard for their own standards or said corporation treating long-time customers with respect/dignity deserves to be mocked. These are the same people lining up to get the new iPhone & clogging up traffic because they can't be bothered to learn how to merge correctly or getting blackout drunk on Cinco de Mayo/St. Patrick's day because their friends are doing it. They are parasitic turds, a blight on humanity & deserve all scorn they get
