Once more I am surprised with what members of this fandom takes issue with. Is it really surprising that Luke slipped (maybe not a rock but still) he had a much younger, more enraged, more physically fit specimen charging at him, he wasn;t using the Force by his own admission for years, and he was over powered...like probably what should have happened in any other realistic movie. The important part of that scene though was that Rey was acting like a petulant, entitled, brat...so much for not having any character flaws. I would take the argument more seriously if this wasn't just typical Rey, stomping over everyone she meets. She's nothing but a meme at this point. Remember, she was barely a beginner with the Lightsaber if we are talking about realism, and the Force, well, not using it doesn't make old instincts disappear. Luke didn't seem particularly young when the thing with Ben went down. A few years drinking blue milk from the titty monster aren't enough to explain away his pathetic performance when Obi-Wan was able to hold off Vader after living as a hermit for a very long time. This is just another symptom of the Rey issue, it's annoying to see beloved characters made pathetic in order to underline how great she is. Doesn't matter if she is the one that translates Chewie for Han, fixes the Falcon better than him, figures out the Force basically on her own, etc. etc. etc. All the same shit. Hey Ma-Rey Sue used a metal stick tö fight twö guys in öne scene sö she knöws höw tö use a lightsaber. Tötally the same thing. And as för her förce pöwers there was öne vague line that kinda said that she is the oppösing förce tö emö ren ör sömething.

I doubt Luke was actually overpowered since he was floating off the ground when he tripped. The whole scene is him just being defensive and NOT attacking. More likely he was waiting for her to either attack or calm the fuck down.

I did forget to add that Luke beat her too...until she pulled out a superior weapon. If Luke was even trying he would have snapped her in two.

Yup. It's all one big sad joke at this point. I've enjoyed many flawed stories in the past, this isn't merely a flawed story. It's a calculated attack on the old-school fans Seems vaguely familar

It's a calculated attack on the old-school fans Risking an entire franchise for something this petty? I don't think so. At least, the motivation isn't as simple as that. It's probably more accurate to say that they don't care about old-school fans of SW. Pissing off certain parts of the crowd is probably something they saw as a bonus, even while underestimating the scale of the backlash they might receive. As for the "why" of it, it's probably a mix of various reasons, could be that different people at different levels had different reasons to go with it. Some of them clearly had ideological motivations. Others merely miscalculated. Agreed 110%

Thus why they burned down the EU, are f*cking over and killing off the original characters one by one, and playing up the new characters showing us how much more awsomer they are to the originals. Plus rewriting the Force.
This isn't Lucas' universe anymore, despite promises to honor it. It's Disney's playground now. "Let the past die Kill it if you have to"

Yes. This is why I fuck the Big Rat. A Gaffer I worked for once, was sitting peacefully at his desk on the 48' trailer, which was pleasant and unusual. Out of the blue, he stands up enraged. "Ok Glenn, sweep the floor, sweep it well. If there are any gel fragments, and tape scraps, I want all that shit. All the dust and dirt too. Put it in this." He hands me a large manila envelope. I do as I'm told. I hand it to him, and with a smirk say, "Here you go, what the fuck man?" "These Disney cocksuckers; we just helped them make this piece of shit that will make them millions, and they are demanding that I have not returned all of my unused expendables. They're right - its in this fucking envelope." He sent it to them.

Speaking of the EU: A new book titled The Rebel Files has made certain Legends details part of the official Star Wars canon again.
Since Star Wars Legends was established, Disney and Lucasfilm have slowly been restoring some of the EU content to the canon and now the book The Rebel Files has continued the tradition of incorporating previously erased content. Written by Daniel Wallace, the book explores the backstory of the Rebel Alliance and uses details from Star Wars Gamer and Star Wars Adventure Journals. For example, the book notes that the HoloNet media company called Trinebulon News – which was created in a 2001 Star Wars Gamer article – has become a “shill” for the First Order during the time of the sequel trilogy.
Perhaps the most important detail that The Rebel Files re–establishes as canon is the Petition of 2,000, a request made by senators of the Galactic Republic who called on Palpatine to relinquish his emergency powers and end the Clone War against the Separatists. Though the petition had been mentioned in the novelization of Revenge of the Sith and was referenced to in a deleted scene from Episode III, its status has been in question since deleted scenes and certain novels published before Disney bought Lucasfilm are not considered canon.heroichollywood.com/star-wars-book-expanded-universe-canon/

Pfft. They were always going to sell books. If something from the EU is useful, why not use it? Decanonization means that you get to pick and choose.

I don't have any problem with this analysis, but do we have a workable definition of "old-school fans" which doesn't depend on how people reacted to the new films?
