Indeed. I was a diehard SW fan. Loved a good chunk of the EU, be they books or comics. Loved a lot of the games, even the short-on-story SW: The Force Unleashed. (I bitch out space-flying Leia but this guy could pull starships from the sky.) I've written stories where my characters are Jedi. I've been watching SW movies since they first came out when I was 6, back when it was simply called "Star Wars". I had SW stuff and so did my friends. Yet, TLJ twisted something inside of me where I found it unwatchable. I was disappointed with the prequels but hopeful for the sequels. And, tbh, Jacen Solo was done way, way better than Kylo Ren. Disney saying the novels aren't canon opens them up to ripping off a better story for this travesty. I think I'll start ignoring the movies and happily re-read the EU books. So true, sadly.

You know, I remember having a discussion about why Marvel's succeeding while Star Wars is entering a bit of a slump, and the general consensus was that Star Wars' leadership isn't strong enough like Marvel's. Kathleen Kennedy is essentially telling directors and creators to do their own things provided they don't contradict each other with no real idea of a proper end goal. I mean, don't you want to plan out a trilogy instead of hiring separate directors to just make it up as they go along?
Someone once said they would rather prefer someone like Dave Filoni in charge of Star Wars instead of Kathleen Kennedy. What do you guys think about that?

Kathleen Kennedy is essentially telling directors and creators to do their own things provided they don't contradict each other with no real idea of a proper end goal. I mean, don't you want to plan out a trilogy instead of hiring separate directors to just make it up as they go along? Someone once said they would rather prefer someone like Dave Filoni in charge of Star Wars instead of Kathleen Kennedy. What do you guys think about that? The reason it doesn't work is because Star Wars =/= Marvel and no one understands that, or what makes the latter tick the way it does. A successful comic book company can be a perpetual license to print money because of the way comic books work. People accept constant retellings, retcons, and other such changes in comic books as well as never-ending installments, spin-offs and remixes because, well that's the way it's always been. That's what comics are. It even has a built-in narrative way of handling that (the comic book multiverse) but even when that gets out of control, they can just pull the plug and reshape it. It's fluid, you can make what you want with it (within some limits- characters still have to be recognizable and retain what makes people like them in the first place and it still has to be good; ironically something teh SJW print Marvel is still failing at, at the moment) and you can keep doing it indefinitely. Star Wars on the other hand is none of those things. Star Wars is very specific about what it is, what the timeline is (despite the prequel-era retcons), what the themes are and what the feel should be. To a fault maybe, but it is what it is. And you absolutely cannot attempt to beat it into the same kind of amorphous self-perpetuating submission that Marvel is in. You can't cut it like you want, you can't twist it like you want, and you certainly can't cram your own bullshit into it like it's a wad of Play-Doh. It's a very specific, very delicate thing, you can respect it, or you draw shitstorm(s) of nerd rage sooner or later, which does eat enough of your Almighty Dollar (and certainly enough for Disney, whose greed and fear of losing even pennies make Scrooges Ebenezer and McDuck each look like the other- and I don't even know what that means) No one else has successfully recreated the MCU formula, not even Disney themselves. They lack a fundamental understanding of it, that's ironic and sad compared to everyone else, given that they own it. And like the supersoldier serum of Captain America, it's because they don't understand the heart of it. And so, we keep getting these deformed, abortive knock-offs.

Someone once said they would rather prefer someone like Dave Filoni in charge of Star Wars instead of Kathleen Kennedy. What do you guys think about that? Thing is Marvel and Kevin Feige are competent. Kevin Feige is a nerd himself and he is brilliant in casting actors and directors - for example how he got Chris Evans and Taika Waititi for MCU. He also had a plan for the entire "unvierse" of interconnected movies and even TV shows up to the Avengers and the Infinity war.
Casting Captain America was super hard. I started to think, “Are we not going to be able to find Captain America, and if we can’t, what are we going to do with Avengers? Is the whole thing going to fall apart?” And, then, finally opening ourselves up to Chris Evans, who we had initially sort of just looked past because he was Johnny Storm in a Fantastic Four franchise. Then, bringing him in and showing him the artwork, showing him what was happening in this movie, and he took a weekend to decide.
In their final meeting, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, asked Waititi why he thought he could handle such a gargantuan project. “Because I’ve been doing it in my head my whole life,” Waititi replied. Feige loved that answer, because he feels that’s how he got his job, too.
While Kathleen Kennedy thinks only about milking the Star Wars cash cow.

Yep. It is disgusting. The proof is her bullshit statement about "making sure these characters live on in a way Lucas would want them to" or whatever & then almost instantly begins killing Luke, Han & soon Leia Anyone who disagrees is a fool & should be eaten

No, that's silly. Their sex has nothing to do with it. That makes what KK had done worse. She didn't have to, but she did. She could have had higher criteria, but she didn't. I can almost hear her saying, "Oops, my bad lol".

Feige's male gaze helps him pick out a good script or director from a bad one.

It's because the leadership of the MCU recognizes the decades of history these characters have and the fans that have built up around it. They respect the past even as they make new stories. Star Disney Wars does not. They kill the past so they can rebrand it.
