I get that 'Lawson' vibe from this, I'm almost afraid (strangely intrigued) that the Ryder twins themselves aren't all they seem. And the fact that their father is a scientist particularly fond of AI is also far from comforting. And I find it comforting meta-wise. Without it Ryders would be just your regular "simple guy becomes a hero" cliche. Yeah, it wasn't done in ME as Wallters says, but it was done countless times everywhere. With SAM it has potential to be more than that. In fact the creeper it gets the better (for me, not for Ryders). DS2 done that part nicely for example. Oh no, I love it. It adds something that is truly and honestly a science fiction concept. One almost new to Mass Effect, unless you're a lore buff, but I love it. And yes it makes the Ryder Family so much more intriguing, I actually want to know more about this entire story. I find SAM to be one of the most interesting characters I've heard of so far. I feel that the addition of SAM was almost necessary to give Ryder something utterly unique and different compared to Shepard. I can't wait to learn more about it.

From IGN who got to play MEA pre-release build.Among the main cast, S.A.M. seems to have the highest potential for causing galactic controversy. In Andromeda, Ryder is always accompanied by an integrated AI that acts a little like The Legend of Zelda’s Navi, but instead of being talkative like the squadmates he occasionally chimes in to offer analysis and advice for objectives. He doesn’t seem to have as much personality as the original trilogy’s EDI, but S.A.M.’s mysterious relationship with the Ryder family makes his side quests intriguing. Having true AI is taboo in Mass Effect, so it’ll be interesting to see how issues with S.A.M. pan out in the Andromeda galaxy. Yeah see I don't want SAM to be treated as this big controversial thing. I want it to provide interesting and new perspective on things and the always on implant thing will have to be addressed. But I want to move away completely from "holy shit, it's an AI". What it says or how we interact with it should be interesting but its mere existence should explicitly be treated as mundane.

But thing is, pretty majority of people in AI are from Citadel Space where A.I. research is banned and everyone experienced Geth attacking Eden Prime, Citadel and other worlds. So ofcourse it will still be a controversial topic, especially since I doubt majority of people were aware SAM is an A.I. until after they arrive to Andromeda.

Yes but would the majority of people in Citadel space be likely to just pack up and head to another galaxy? I can easily imagine the AI drawing people unconventional to Citadel norms or even derisive of them. The denizens of Citadel Space are complacent, the AI members are anything but. So if any group is likely to challenge typically held beliefs on their own its them. And more to the point, an AI like SAM is on every Ark from my understanding and logically such a journey could not be made without them. Thus I argue that people here should be fairly cool with AIs. Now native Andromedans are another matter. No data available.

Sure, we've past "rebellion against creators" thing after trilogy, but AI has it's own will and is capable of modifying itself, so you never really know what it's up to. Even if it acts in your best interests, SAM might do it in a way you'll never expect. It may get mundane for Ryder, but not for a player.

Meatbags have same instincts. Humans, asari, turians... all of them have same basic needs and same fears (to the point of being rubberheads, but that's not the matter). They can betray you, but all possible reasons for it are known for a long time. AI has none of it. It's thousand times smarter than you and has only purpose, which it's free to interpret, as motivation. You are like a pet to it, except we usually don't have implants in our pet's brains. Would you treat it as mundande, if Miranda installed her mind-chip into Shepard? If not, why would you give different treatment to a being with different kind of intelligence?

I already acknowledged the implant must be addressed. Why are we still talking about it? I also challenge that "all possible reasons" for betrayal can be known. If the betrayer is off his rocker, there's all your assumptions about predictability gone. And even regular people can't be predicted as well as you think, unless you're Sherlock Holmes or Thrawn.

Sam is a little pre-occupied right now battling the laws of mathematics and computer science to answer your questions. Basically, if it worked SAM would transpose my question into an executable logical expression which would generate unhandled exceptions to an unanswerable question in an infinite loop. Assuming the exceptions didn't crash it, the only way to break out of an infinite loop is with a system reboot.

Nah, SAM would probably just become unresponsive for a little while and the Nexus Engineers would be all like: Engineer: "Ryder, not this shit again... " Ryder: "It ain't me fool" Engineer: "*Sigh*, I feel sorry for your dad..., etc."

SAM info from the gameinformer article SAM (Simulated Adaptive Matrix) is the Andromeda-equivalent of EDI. He’s an A.I. that eventually bonds with your brain and becomes a part of you. When he isn’t functioning as your HUD or informing you about your environment, you can have philosophical discussions with him about existence. Well that doesn't sound horrifically creepy at all. I hope there's a power drill somewhere to hand when the game starts...
