In the launch trailer... Sara yelling "he has access" while Archon is doing what looks like scanning her head. Does he...hack SAM? Am I only one reading it that way? Nope. Next frame shows hacked Ark (it's colored red, so people won't get confused that this is bad) as well. Seems like people who told that SAM could be hacked were right after all. I don't think it's critical though. PB's loyalty mission was shown after main quest, remember?

So in interview with Ian yesterday he said that SAM is always omnipresent, but you can tell him to turn off the cameras on occasions.

Well that fell flat. Not because the jokes (I actually would've expected a "dad joke" counter from Ryder) but because the voice for SAM is completely flat. Not in that quirky "robo-monotone" either, just... flat. And boring. It works when it's just being discount JARVIS and relaying information during missions but I expected a bit more... something when you're actually conversing with it.
I hope they didn't go so anti-EDI they completely neglected to put in any personality.

Sovy didn't show any emotions either (outside phrasing), but I still remember him. In SAM's case I forget everything it says after a minute.

I'll probably be in the minority here, but I like SAM! I have an extreme soft spot for robot characters, so this is totally not an objective opinion. But from what I've seen in Early Access, he's less emotive than EDI or Legion but he's also not designed to be an emotive character. He was designed as a symbiont to Ryder, and to that end, he has an almost child-like quality to him. It's like I've got one little brother in a coma, and another in my head. Our family is pretty weird

Our family is pretty weird I love SAM! And I think there's more about it than we're being presented so far. I've mentioned this before in 1 or 2 different topics, but I'll repeat it here too. I think SAM is not just and AI and I think Alec found a way to transfer his wife's consciousness into it. Why? Because it's been hinted by: 1) Alec memory - he was desperate to make SAM legal and he told his wife "not on my watch" when she told him she's going to die. 2) SAM told Sara/Scott this memory could've been a begining. Of what? We don't know. But it was important if Alec wanted Sara/Scott to see it. 3) In one of his computer logs Alec said SAM is even more important now that his wife is dying What I also find interesting is the fact that SAM is voiced by a woman, no idea why it's called "he" instead of "she"

Not a big fan of SAM. So bland and soulless. I think AI should be more personalized and interesting by now the whole "hyper literal monotone robot" trope is so done at this book. Take cue from Fallout 4 where the AI were basically people. That was interesting

I'd say there's a difference between "I wanna be a real boy" and just having literally fuck all in terms of personality. Even if the voice is monotone, modulated and without inflection, timing and how it's written can still convey a great deal of character. I think in typical BioWare fashion they reacted to a complaint by nuking from orbit instead of taking the time to understand and implement the nuance of what people were saying.

I like SAM, actually. Love how matter-of-factly it says stuff like "No, Sara, this won't be fun because your blood will boil and you'll die" and "You might not wanna open that door. It leads to space." I really hope that we will see more character in future games, as SAM learns more from the Pathfinder.

SAM's also a grammar nazi He corrected me twice in autodialogue (Sara's playthrough) Not sure if the same happens with Scott though. He seems to be more "perfect", Sara is an awkward goofball
