Well the title is self explanatory.
I think the game will start during the reaper occupation of Earth, the first mission is getting off planet with your family, which consists of the PC a regular marine, your mother a famous scientist, and your sibling the N7 marine in the trailer. Those who come to rescue your family have orders to only take your mother and sibling since they are both at the top of their field, your family refuses and the rescuers agree to take you with them as they have a limited window before the Reapers find them.
You make it to the Ark with your family and are given an explanation of the Andromeda Initiative they tell you that it is a fail safe in case the Crucible fails, everyone who was chosen to be on the Arks was chosen to fulfill a requirement, except for you who was never meant to be on the Ark. unlike Shepard who was specifically chosen to be a SpecTRe, Ryder is not even supposed to be there.
During the Alliance's attempt to take back Earth the Reapers shut down the Mass Relay network, the people in charge of the Arks panic and decide to launch the Arks, you and your family go into cryostasis.
You wake up from cryostasis and learn that your sibling was awoken before you and made a Pathfinder, charged with finding a new home for mankind, however they have disappeared. You are made a pathfinder and charged to find your sibling who was on the verge of discovering something big, you are given the Tempest and then the game world is open to you.
The opening sequence would reflect that of the original game.
ME: Eden Prime-Citadel-Hunt for Saren.
MEA: Earth-Ark-Search for N7 sibling and new home world.
So how do you guys think the game will start?

You don't suposse to be in the Ark, maybe you are there because of luck, your superior asked you to do it, etc. Then the attack happens. I think opening cinematic will show the Reaper invasion and the Ark while a voice over explains that the this is a repurposed exploration project being used to save what little they can -or something- and the relay jump into dark space will morph into the title card.
Scientist types walk along a line of cryopods, stop at the one with our character's surname leading to the character creator then the scene continues with our pc waking up and the current situation being explained to them/the player.
Soon followed by combat tutorial of some kind.

Not sure we'll see reapers at all, myself. Most likely we'll see ourselves pre-departure, possibly even play through that part. I just hope the intro section isn't too drawn out to get us invested in family members or leaving.
Something Inquisition did was drop you in to the intro and allowing you to play through it, without really noticing till you saw the Dragon Age logo.
For me at least anyway.

I actually have been thinking about the origin of the Arks, between the Rachni Wars and the Krogan Rebellions the Council races came close to annihilation twice, it would make sense for them to have a contingency plan ready to go for survival outside the Milky Way, they just never had to use it until the Reapers came. |

I think we won't see Earth at all, nor Reapers etc ...
I think the whole ship is asleep and we will wake up like everybody else in the different arks.
After that only, we will certainly hear about the Ark project, about what happened when we left the MW and how long the trip was from the MW to Andromeda.

Myself, I think that the Sanctuary hotel on Horizon is where the game will start. A small cabal, if not one person, got involved with planning on if the reapers attacked. They had to set up a hotel, Sanctuary, so they wouldn't lose their shirt, but they also realized it had a double meaning. They pumped this up so that everyone, not only humanity, would go there. The other races in the MW aren't as forthcoming about their motives about leaving the MW. They knew that the only way to survive was to flee. Fight or flight, and this is the flight response, as we've seen the fight response with the trilogy.
It is later on, after we have already left that Cerberus takes it over. It's kind'a meant to feel like "Cerberus has owned this the entire time", but I can't find any evidence of that. If any exists, please, show me.

But prove it... Plus, we don't really know how many months before the reaper invasion started (and ultimately left for Andromeda) to when we finally got there in ME3. 6? 9? A lot can happen within a month, much less six.

Not sure about Earth, but I see the game opening one of two ways:
1) Before ark departure, there's a playable section where we fight Reaper husks or Cerberus or possibly some group tied into the plot later on. Full helmet the entire time, then we get put in a stasis pod and character creation starts.
2) The game opens with a cinematic explaining the arks and their journey, going directly to character creation before leaving stasis.

It will start when I hit the button on my controller. hahahaha I'll just copy/paste my post from bsn At the beginning, the camera looks out at the city of Vancouver. The sound of a door is heard opening followed by a familiar voice being heard. At that point, the character creator pops to adjust the looks of Shepard. Just like Hawke in DAI. Anderson introduces the Chief Director for the building of the ships that will make the trip to Andromeda. Only a vague explanation is given to Shepard about the project. The director wants Shepard to give a message to the folks making the journey. He gives Shepard a datapad to read. A few moments later, and after Anderson and the director have left, Shepard walks towards the window and looks towards the sky. The scene switches to showing shuttles leaving Earth heading to the ships. People are seen doing all kinds of task to prepare the ships for the journey. A couple of characters are seen talking. One of them mentions Ryder's name. At that point, another character creator pops up to create the looks of Ryder. After that, Ryder is seen with family members then told to head to her/his stasis pod for the trip. After giving hugs to family members, Ryder is seen getting in his/her pod. For added touch Since the song Ghost Riders in the Sky will be in the game, what about a song for the ships leaving the Milky Way? Since humanity will lead the other ships to Andromeda, the pilot of the human led ship will get on the CB and say Breaker one-nine. We got ourselves a CONVOY. Key in the song. excellent. |

I doubt the game will have Reapers or Earth in it. To be honest I'd rather it not.
My guess is that the evacuation of the Milky Way will be covered in the opening cinematic. Even then I doubt they show the wars effects on the Milky Way, more of an hopeful "We were forced from our homes but we persevered and arrived in a new place" with shots of the Arks traveling to Andromeda.
When the survivors get to the first, or the first habitable system, the game will pick up in Andromeda.
Anyone have a feel if the Ryder family will change appearance like the Hawke family did in DA2 based on what Hawke looked like?

I think it it will have presets linked to match skin tone and maybe even one family member will be coded to have the same eye colour as the pc but I doubt we'll have the same amount of freedom as we did with DAI's cc. |

The Mass Effect series usually throws us to the action pretty quickly, I imagine it would take some time between waking up from stasis and being sent on our first mission. I believe there will be a combat mission at the very start of the game similar to the Eden Prime mission and the escape from the Lazarus facility before we get to the Ark. |

The only real answer here, is when is the prologue over with? Not when does the CC come up. 'Cause in ME1 & 3, it came up right away. That first mission in ME1 served as the prologue and escaping Earth in ME3 served as the prologue.

I think there will be a cutscene or a couple that has voices explaining the Arks and showing the shuttles with Ryder in it leaving Earth to go to the Arks(we see this in the EA Play video) and the Arks jump into FTL.
Then we get the paragraph of text like all Mass Effect games have that ends with the Mass Effect Andromeda name showing on the screen.
Then we see the Arks get out of FTL, it goes to the stasis chamber and eventually focuses on our pod and that is when the character creation occurs. After we create our character, we awaken and have the "We made it" scene.

Honestly, I have no idea, I would presume it would start with Ryder waking up from their sleep at some point.
Either that, or we get a prologue of us on Earth before we go into the unknown.
