I don't know what we're going to see in the intro because I don't know when we are leaving.
That would be some really, really Choice information, BW. When are we leaving the MW?
IIRC, Mac said something about the different motivations for going on trip like this. He mentioned curiosity, adventure(probably moneymaking schemes as well..I mean, you just know that), but also that you may be running from something, or trying to run to something, etc. This makes me think that the Ark project was indeed built to be an exploratory expedition. Not for preservation of the species in case of Reaper attack.
That said, I could very well see the project being re-purposed quite quickly--IF we're leaving slightly before the Reapers hit, or just right when they do.
...What I would like to see is us leaving around the time the Reapers show up. A project that has been re-purposed on the fly. I don't care about seeing Reapers per se, but rather getting the feeling of emergency. I want to see confusion among participants; shock; fear; guilt; Anger about leaving while others struggle in the fight against Reapers. I've seen this sentiment expressed by fans, and I think it's legitimate.
I would like to see a situation where these Arks are not necessarily all the way ready yet, but it's going to have to do. Better throw some duct tape on that part over there cuz we gotta go, Son! Right now, right now.
The CC being at the very beginning of the game. For example, the PC is in their cabin/quarters/hotel room/dorm/ idk! But they're there, and they simply look into a mirror to start CC. Get ready for the day, then half way through morning coffee, everything goes to shite. (edit: i know that's FO4, but i don't care. it doesn't have to be exactly like that. i'm just saying it doesn't need to be all complicated, either. just get us to the CC.) And a way to communicate the very real concern that we might not make it at all. We might as well be flying into the Sun.
I would like to see some drama and energy, then we go into the silence of stasis, while the last thing we see slipping away from us--alarmingly quickly--is our galaxy. The meds kick in, or whatever they're using, and we descend into the silence.
Then we wake up.
As far as combat tutorial, I could very well see us doing that after we come out of stasis on the reasoning we need to get ourselves back into shape. Encouraged to get rust and dust off. Possibly a simulator somewhere in the game/Ark.
What I think we will see? Probably opening up with us already in stasis; CC; breath...we're in Andromeda.
And us leaving may have absolutely nothing to do with any impending Reaper invasion.

Come to think of it, I'll be kind of pissed if the game doesn't start in the Milky Way or have a sense of escape urgency in the beginning. I'll be so mad
Without that proper precedent, it'll feel just as disconnected and lackluster as the Inquisitor origin.

I think probably an introduction to leaving earth, showing the departure a little bit of stasis, then Ryder will wake up from stasis, and BOOM: character creator. The Mass Effect series usually throws us to the action pretty quickly, I imagine it would take some time between waking up from stasis and being sent on our first mission. I believe there will be a combat mission at the very start of the game similar to the Eden Prime mission and the escape from the Lazarus facility before we get to the Ark. Wake up, talk to family, be sent on a mission to establish first colony on super easy planet. Woo!

People who didn't go to the Keep (and even some that did) didn't get a chance to see the paragraph backstory. And of those that did go, some of them, myself included, didn't know where to click.

Possibly a simulator somewhere in the game/Ark. I can see that. After all we know such simulators exist ever since Mass Effect 1, and it would make sense to have one aboard. Both as a way to keep troops sharp, as well as let people blow off steam. A game similar to Mass Effect: Andromeda, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, did that for the combat tutorial.

Theoretically, newbies who pick up the ME:A game don't need a back story opening sequence. They have no connection or a need for answers.
However, Bio will aim the game to the Mass Effect players as a priority, imo. Thus, some form of opening sequence that connects "veterans" is more than likely. Also, I bet the prequel novel is there to flesh out the backstory and provide much needed answers.

I hope the game starts in Andromeda. What happened in Milky Way is long ago forgotten and we get as little references to original trilogy as possible. It's a new story and a new Galaxy and I want the focus to be on that, rather than the same old, same old.

Also starting the game with us waking up from cryostasis might mean Ryder is dizzy and not exactly sure where they are, the people in charge of waking us up would remind Ryder what the Andromeda Initiative is, why we made the trip and also remind us of the other Milky Way races on board. It would be a good way to introduce newcomers and re-introduce fans to the franchise.

Unless Bioware made departure CGI for the sake of E3, the game starts in MW. The question is how much action will be there, if any. It could be prologue-type husk-shooting and run-for-your-lifes escape or some narrator telling us that MW became sooo mainstream and we have to go to Andromeda for an adventure, because we always were explorers. *Hyperdrive whoosh* *Relaxing music with Ark in Dark Space* "We made it"

I liked the ME2-3 intro. Action from the start that pulled you in. And, the ME2 intro is really a combat simulator in disguise. Somehow, I have a hard time imagining what kind of suitable action sequence that could be done, upon waking up.
On a second thought, maybe the action is about a mutinous group that kills the Command Crew and Ryder needs to step up fast and repel the takeover assault.

So far all the ME games have thrown us into a bit of a situation at the start: ME1: Bit of an intro to the ship and the characters, due to being the first game of the series. But pretty quickly: boom, Eden Prime, the major antagonist is set up, and there's a big mystery to solve. ME2: Collector attack with a very dramatic main scene, immediately setting up main antagonist - oh, and you die. Then on waking up, immediate combat situation. ME3: Little bit of an intro before Reapers attack, hugely dramatic sequence, an escape with combat, main antagonists are definitely set up. So, with the slight exception of ME1, which is a) an older game and the first in the series, the opening section of the games has been pretty explosive and features combat almost immediately - unsurprisingly, since they need to get that combat tutorial in soon. Given that we've seen some beautiful footage of shuttles heading towards the Ark ships, I would be surprised if we didn't have a big dramatic cinematic send-off at the start of the game. I also think that there's likely to be some kind of character intro/setting the scene/raising the stakes before Ryder wakes up in Andromeda and says "We made it!" It could well be a combat intro with our Ryder, or even, as in ME2, just a walking-around and interacting one, but I believe it's far more dramatic to have there be some reason to doubt the safety of the Andromeda mission or to give us some sense of immediate danger, rather than just have the Arks sail serenely off into space. All the ME games set up an antagonist pretty soon, so I'd expect that, whether it's the dubious N7 character from the teasers, a family member, a pro-human group, or all of the above. Can't wait to find out.

The prequel novel by Jemisin may setup the action upon Ryder waking up. It's text is canonical, according to Titan Books.

Since i'm lazy, aka Engineering-quality , from uBSN: I can see the game starting with reason for leaving, whatever it is, followed by snippets of the actual journey. Once first contact is about to be established, our Ryder will need to be woken up then we'll get the "We're here" scene followed by our sibling telling us to get our ass in gear, which we do. And then, we arrive at the command center for the Ark we're on to get our mission briefing. (I)t'll be with our CO, along with the rest of our group. I imagine Ryder'll be in charge of a task force which has run of where they need to go and what needs to be done but they still report to the CO with the mission briefings.

I like the idea from the trailer of having a more stylized approach than usual with pop culture songs that kinda clash with the futuristic image. I'd like to see the game open mysteriously as it depicts a vessel entering Andromeda in an empty space and then play Rocket Man by Elton John while zooming in on the space craft, and when the little music montage ends and the game has established its atmosphere we cut to the scene of Ryder waking up.

People are climbing into their sleeper pods, while all the ships load up. Then the ship enters into hyperspace. Then, while on route, you create your character. When you click "done", the ship exits hyperspace, and your character climbs out of their pod; and say "... We made it."

It can't start in ME3, there's no way the Reapers would let a bunch of slow-ass Arks just waltz out of the Solar System and then out of the galaxy. They have to leave way before the Reapers arrive.

I considered that, in the trailer we don't see a single continuous shot of the shuttles leaving Earth and arriving at the Arks, I believe the trailer was edited to make it appear that's the case. Of course this is assuming that footage wasn't made exclusively for the E3 trailer and the events in the game itself are completely different.
